Where exactly is Raleigh?  (okay, I could just check a map, but am a bit lazy).  I go to the Outer Banks every summer.  My sister went to UNCG (don't really know where that is either, but I had to take United "express" to get there).  My sister's fiance is from Swananoa, and he is really a country boy, and very nice.  His parents got married when they were 16, which I think is pretty weird.

Anyway, Niles, I think you are sexy, and you should come to DC sometime.

The best revenge is to just get educated, and you will see how pathetic they really are.  The more education and the more life experience you get, the more you see just how dysfunctional and inappropriate PCS+ their staff are.

I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend sending a bipolar child to a "behavior modification boarding school".

What brand of absinthe would you recommend?  I have some called Tabu, which I bought in   Germany.  I haven't tried it yet.

Happy birthday, Niles.  I don't go to the countryside much (Utah really traumatized me.  Just the site of mountains can trigger a panic attack), but you are welcome to visit in Dc anytime.

Open Free for All / NORDSTROMS HAS A KWANZAA HOLIDAY GIFT CARD!

Okay, thats cool if you want to have a day (or week, whatever), dedicated to celebrating your heritage.  But if you are serious about it, and would like everyone to recognize and even participate in your holiday, WHY would you make that holiday in December???  There's just too much other stuff going on.

The Irish have their holiday in March.

I recently heard that there was a boy at PCS, who raped other boys, on more than one occassion.  (I knew of this boy, he was huge, just like a football player.  He was at PCS for like 3 years). I heard this from a source who witnessed it firsthand.  I may be able to get him to sit down in front of the computer and attest to this.

Provo Canyon School needs to be shut down, the staff were abusive, fowl, inapproriate,

The staff are inappropriate because they are not professionaly trained- they are not even required to have been to college.

I just thank (the heavens) that this site is available as a resource.  I know that had my parents had access to this site back in 92' or so, they would have never sent me to PCS.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Provo Canyon School is listed as a hospital

I know PCS is listed as a hospital, because I have seen it myself!  I was quite suprised, as I was under the impression that PCS was a "residential treatment center", I had never heard any mention of it being a "hospital".

Would someone please locate the sites that list PCS at a hospital?  Computers are just not my area of expertise.  If no one else posts about it, then I'll find these sites, when I get a minute, okay?

Meanwhile, Provo Canyon better get to work removing their name from any hospitals list.

Thank you for investigating Provo Canyon School.

PCS does NOT provide a theraputic environment, contrary to what they may say.

It sounds like your daughter has some problems, and I know you must be terrified.  PCS (and, it seems, many other programs) doesn't help anyone with their "issues" or "problems".  Instead it serves like a punishment-  the kid gets sent there, and, out of sheer terror and for the purposes of survival, may begin acting more subdued and complacent, and eventually leave the program.

Then what?  The kid has not learned any skills useful in real life.  (except maybe how to clean a bathroom).  Most of the time, they have not even addressed the real issues causing their behavior- because PCS is not a reality-based program.

You daughter is going through a vulnerable time, and what she needs is not a "punishment", but maybe some constructive, professional assistance.

Or you could just wait and let her work it out herself- however painful that may be.

I'm sorry I cannot provide more information about alternatives.  The only other thing I could mention is traditional boarding school- I also attended one of those, and it was great!

Good luck.  Please email me if you have any further questions.

This is only the beginning, one of the first links on a google search for "provo canyon school hospital". (I am not very computer savvy, perhaps someone else can point us to other sites).

The link above listed PCS a facility that treats "addiction".  Puh-lease!  This place claims to treat anything and everything!

If PCS were really a "hospital" of any sort, they would be required to hire only "professionals"- registered nurses or lpn's would have to staff the units and monitor progess, write notes, ect...

Currently, their unit staff are not required to have any college education, yet these people are the primary caregivers; they implement the program, dole out infractions and punishments, evaluate "progress", write progress notes for the charts, monitor many children who may be on dangerous psychiatric meds... and they have no professional training nor licensure!  I don't even think they are certified in CPR!!

At a legitimate hospital, people of this caliber work as "technicians", who take vital signs, and thats about it.  Oh, right...they don't check anyone's vital signs at PCS.  Just another way in which PCS lies and manipulates, and provides sub-standard care.

While at PCS, I was the only kid from the DC area (except for one other girl, who was from Bethesda, MD).

Dr. Schwartz developed a reputation for having a disgusting, unprofessional, and cruel bedside manner with children, and many parents quickly came to disregard his advise on family, social, and mental health matters.  I don't even think he works in the area anymore.
