As far as "planned in the stars", the whole astrology trip came after the Seed lost gas. During the seed's heydey astrology played no part that I remember. It seems that later, when the seed got small the astrology angle got introduced.

perhaps 30 years later, they are just trying to understand what really happened in that bizzare little cult.

And I would agree that many people were programmed, set their memories on autopilot and never looked back. That is where you get comments like "it saved my life" when no evidence exists that this is a true statement.

Anyone Seen it?  Remember it?

And most importantly, know where I can get a copy? If you have a vhs copy somewhere or an earlier format, I will pay shipping and handling and for an additional copy.  Please post your reply here anon or otherwise.

thank you.

Really? How do you know this? Were you in touch? What happened to him? Was he still involved with the Seed when he died? Did Art help finance him in business like he apparently has done to other insiders?

Yes, Ray did die over a year ago and from what I understand from heresay His brother did not attend his funeral. And yes, his brother did marry Libby, the infamous Libby McDonald/Barker/Kienzle.

So maybe it was Nick that used to say that. Do you remember him speaking of a rehab in New York?

Richard, have you seen the pic of Art, Libby, John Perloff, Shelly and at least one other seedling? This will give you an idea what they look like now, keeping in mind this is over two years ago.

It is so fascinating reading the different perceptions and reactions people have to their memories of the Seed.

I particularly find fascinating those that hero worship Art Barker. To me during my program I despised him and feared him, yet was forced to sing love songs to him.

I felt like what I was, a prisoner in a cool-aide love cult struggling to survive, always casting an eye to the day I could get far away from that place. I remember Art coming into group, chain smoking, talking 100 miles an hour, spewing venom at his enemies, taking mini-surveys, cracking stupid fucking jokes and pretending like he was a big shot actor. What a pompous egotistical jerk he was.It was a wonder someone didn't beat the shit out of his short little ass.

Richard, maybe the early days were different, but the Seed St Pete had a decidedly hard edge to it.

Still waiting for your stories....

Not specifically, but I remember being told repeatedly by staff, in rap after rap, that We could never "leave" the seed, that the detachment would be to great, that we would miss the love too much, that we would have nightmares and that the songs would play over and over in our heads and drive us insane.

Well, to those "overcontrolling" staff that may or are monitoring this site, I say to you this...

Stop being a bunch of sissies and post something. Back when we were children, you talked big and walked big and basically took exteme pleasure in fucking with our young minds with your little Jim Jonsie koolaid love cult.  We are adults now and have some very direct questions for you...

stop hiding your heads up Art's skirt and start answering some questions. Show us the "courage of your convictions" right here, right now.

The Seed Discussion Forum / Art Barker likely never at Synanon

Okay, for those interested. Here is an excerpt and the link for Robert Dupont under oath in a trial against straight, courstesy of my friend Wes Fager:

4 Now, the therapeutic community program is

5 the linear descendent of the earliest of the modern

6 addiction treatments. It started with a program

7 called Synanon in California in 1978 and spread around

8 the country. And here we have Second Genesis and

9 Crossroads and several others in this area, as well as

10 Straight, that provided this kind of treatment, which

11 really had to do with peers working with peers in the

12 program and had to do with confrontation and

13 relatively prolonged periods of treatment.

http://thestraights.com/people/medical- ... t-web4.htm

Other than his obvious mispeak about the date synanon was started (it was not 1978 but the early 60s)Notice he said straight was  a LINEAR DESCENDENT of Synanon. Straight was formed by Seed parents and Seed staffers in St Petersburg Florida when the seed tucked tail and left.

How clear is that?

Now, please help me find the link to how Art Barker obtained these methods.  I know the guy....he didn't think it up on his own.  In other words, Art barker DID NOT REINVENT THE WHEEL, ONLY COPIED IT.

The question, how and where did he learn of these techniques?

aaron, what I here is that you were a troubled 20 year old, signed yourself into straight, disagreed with the modality and methodology, but also used the time to dry out and turned your life around.

Sound entirely rational to me, and welcome to fornits.
