Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Straight spinoffs clarifications
« on: April 15, 2003, 08:59:00 AM »
I remember one woman from Cini coming down on staff. A Crystal something. She was there for about 2-3 weeks. Took my responsibilities while I was on 5th for something. Was the closest I ever came to a staff member admiting they were wrong. I always respected her for that.

Crystal Miller, yes I remember when she left Cincinnati. I was on Staff in Cincy at the time.  Everyone was convinced that she would come back up to Cincinnati a Senior Staffer.  Didn't happen though.

She and I attend church together.  In fact our choir just got done doing an Easter cantata featuring Larnelle Harris. She has a remarkable voice.

Crystal is doing real well. Happily married with a 2 year old son.  She calls Straight a PRISON!  Up until recently she didn't want to talk about the place.

Didn't Mark end up marrying Traci Adkins, a former Junior Staffer?

Given a choice between St. Pete and Cincinati.  I'll take Cincinnati any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The food was better the atmosphere was better and my Oldcomer was and still is a true friend.

If I had it to do all over again. Thank you....NO

I would have more to say about this, but I think there is someone in the parking lot looking to kill me. LOL

Whats the big difference between ISAC and SAFETY Net?  I had at one point thought that some people were with both organizations.  Did I read correctly that the ISAC does NOT want to attend the conference?  If so why not?  If they ever held it here in the Cincinnati area, I'd be there in a heartbeat and I'm not what some would call a big activist. Some clarification please  :???: .  Thanks

I was made to shave my moustache too.  They said it was a druggie image.  Yeah right.

I started growing my moustache the day I was placed on a two-week leave of absence on Staff.  Part of my "rebel year."  I still have it to this day as a reminder that I actually did do some rebeling against Straight.

I was in the St. Pete building when I got my first and ONLY Straight hair cut. Once on 2nd Phase my dad cut my hair and after I got on third phase professionals did it.

When I first came in my hair was just over my collar and parted on the side and feathered back on one side.

To my knowledge a parent mom cut my hair.  I didn't have too much of a problem getting it cut but I secretly wished I could keep it long.

When I got home I saw the results of that haircut and about went nuts.  This lady hacked up my hair so bad it looked like Edward Scissor Hands on acid did it.

My Oldcomers thought it was a little funny  :flame:

I was eventually sat down when the Staff realized that I wasn't going to change my story.

After I left Staff   I let my hair grow the longest it's ever been.  From April 1984 to September 1985 I didn't let anyone touch my hair.

On my first visit to the group it was probably down over my collar.  By my second and final visit to the building it was a little over my shoulders. When all was said and done it was resting about 3-4 inches below my shoulders.  My mom hated it and my Aunt Mary Lou asked my parents if I had relapsed because I looked like a druggie.  Boy that hurt :cry2:

Today I am bald and wish I could get it back and let it grow out all over again.  I know some people who have hair like mine and have whats left grown long but it looks stupid to me.

Actually it's not nearly as bad as it use to be.  Back when I first posted I just thought everyone was moaning and complaining  :flame: I was torn to shreds and even threatened.  Granted, I started off on the wrong foot and put the other foot in my mouth.  But it was so bad that I became physically ill and emotionally depressed over this board.
The attacks continued over on my board as well.
Over time we've become a more gentle and more understanding people and for that I am thankful.

To my knowledge Love Raps weren't done in Cincinnati. At least not on my 5 phases.

When I was a 7th Step Officer I led two "Love Raps" which I came up with from an experience I had in Youth Group at my church several years prior to my coming into the program.   It was called a Love Feast.  Basically we'd sit in a darkened room in a circle and one by one someone would stand up and walk around outside the circle until they reached someone they loved.  From there they would talk about why they loved the person. It was a highly emotional time and tons of tears were shed.  I even met a "druggie friend" as a result of that experience.

I added the element of playing a song from Michael W. Smith, Friends just before the rap started.

After the first Love Rap, I was approched by Suzanne Gore who was a Junior Staffer and asked if she could do something like it in Group.

When I did the rap again several months later people started crying as soon as the music started and they knew what rap I was doing.

The thing with the Staffers coming in dressed in robes and carrying candles sounds oddly cultish.  :???:

I signed myself into the program.  I didn't WANT to be there but I knew I had a problem.

I didn't know that the treatment method used was so questionable back then. Nor did my parents.  My parents were recruited by some friends from church who had a daughter in there.

Before Straight bought the building on Branch Hill Guneia Pike, it was a bar/nightclub?  I don't remember the name of the place but I'll ask around or maybe even stop by some place to see if it is on record some where.

Does anyone know where I would check for that kind of thing.

I thought it was interesting that the old KHK building is now a bar when the old Straight building used to be one.

Ken,
The basketball court is fenced in Yes. Barbed wire? No!  Just fence extentions on the top to keep the ball and yes I suppose kids from getting out into the parking lot.

Youare 100% correct.  In fact when I met with Penny the first thing I told her was I am not from ISAC and someone from there would be in touch. (Penny thought that I was from the ISAC but let her know otherwise. Since I knew you had already contacted Jeff, I told her to get with Jeff about that.

I understand you being weary of the claims of professional intervention at KHK.

I don't have a reason to doubt them based on the number of clinicians on staff there.

During my entire stay at Straight 1st thru 5th phase I was "treated" by the Peer Staff.  Not one meeting with a "professional" staff member.  In fact I didn't have a family conference until AFTER my two week leave of absence from Staff. By then I had been 7th Stepped for a year and 1/2.

I'm glad you don't think I messed any thing up, but I'm still going to contact Penny and see if I can convince her to meet the the ISAC.
