At the present time, there are NO federal laws regulating private facilities that house juveniles.
ALL regulation, licensing requirements, etc. are at the discretion of the individual states and many of them do not require licensing or qualified staff.
For example, Missouri regulates manicurists, hairstylists, professional wrestling - but there isn't a single law on the books requiring licensing for private schools, wilderness camps, boot camps, etc.
Leaving the issue of regulation to the states not only places children at risk of being abused, it makes it easy for unqualified people to open and operate these facilities.
Please contact your State Senators and Representatives and let them know that you support nation-wide regulation of private facilities that house juveniles!
