Scott Peterson verdict is in! Forget the silly election fraud thing or how many people died in Iraq or that bin Laden is still loose or that
all the environmental protection laws are being thrown out or that the dollar is collapsing or that your loved ones might be drafted in a
senseless war for greed or your civil liberties have finally been taken away or that those not in the right party might go to the FEMA camps.

Thank God for celeberty murders like Scott Peterson and Robert Blake or even OJ Simpson.  Remember to stay tune on all your radio channels
and TV stations for full detailed coverage of the Scott Peterson verdict.  I just hope this does not interrupt "the Martha Steward Merry Prison Christmas Special: Decorating Your Cell with Santa"

Aside from the blatent distraction from what really is news, there is an interesting analysis here:

What is the real difference between the OJ aquittal and the Scott P conviction?  It is social mood.

Look at where the stock market was when OJ was on trial.  It was up up up, the economy was healthy, our service men were not at war...

The social mood has changed, which is a natural wave cycle, and with it the stock market will go down, the economy will suck, and we will go to war with whoever pisses us off.  And anyone thinking they can win over a jury during this cycle is fooling themselves.

I think The juice got off since it wasnt to far after the la riots as well. Probably not the deciding factor but influential.
I dont know much about petersons trial to add to much about petersons penalty.

Scott Peterson got what he deserved.
It is nice to see justice.

 Iraq is very depressing, no GOOD NEWS to report unfortunatly.

As for OJ, he had a jury loaded with racial biggots, trying to make up for the crimes of our ancestors.
 He should be stabbed slowly,over and over again. That pompus bastard!
 I hope some "golfing accident" occurs. Mabe something like a 50 MPH ball to the temple. That would be sweet!

I'm sure Peterson would do it for a lighter scentence.(the stabbing)
If I could actually hit a golf ball with any ability,I would volunteer for the job. I like to help out.

Ok, fine, whatever your opinions on these very sensational cases, They Have Absolutely No Impact On Your Life!

Iraq! The war! US foreign policy? The stone cold fact of the US $ falling percipitously in comparison to other currencies? Those things effect you and will effect your children and their children. And if we're too damned busy rearranging our prejudices as regards The Juice and that loser, Scott Peterson, to pay attention to the important issues of the day our grandchildren will spit and curse our names.

I'm glad some people have that faith. I don't have that faith. If there is a God, a caring God, then we have to figure he's done an extraordinary job of making a very cruel world.

Antigen, You are right, but I am in no way consumed by these cases. When they are shoved in my face daily, they are hard to ignore.
I have no control over the economy, nor who OJ kills next.
 I am angry when most every non-food item is MADE in CHINA!
The government NEEDS to do something about our trades with these countries. It in difficult to find products made in America.
This is wrong!

No, we do have control over the economy and foreign policy. It's just that we've been asleep at the switch for a couple of generations. We have to learn, and teach our children, to ignore the ongoing mainstream docu-drama and to educate ourselves about the really important issues so that we can excercise our control in those areas.



BTW, I edited my previous post. Should have been "we" and "our" to begin with.  :wink:

The OJ Simpson Jury did what a jury is supposed to do.  They left their previous experiences outside the jury room and decided the case on the basis of the evidence that was put in front of them in the way that it was presented.  After Ito disallowed things like the Bronco chase, the case wasn't as solid as it had been.  And then, that lame theory that the cops doctored the evidence out of racial bigotry, it was pathetic until we found out that Furman was a raving bigot.  He made it sound plausible.  I don't claim that Simpson was innocent, but I think that the evidence presented to the jury left room for reasonable doubt.  

The latest theory I've heard has it that the victims were actually killed by TWO people, which might explain why the gloves didn't fit Simpson.

No, what explains the gloves "not fitting" was the fact that he had on surgical gloves to begin with and then you can see him in the video widen his hand out to make it larger than it actually was.

The trouble with the Jury system is that they are very susceptable to social mood.  Look at where our country was during OJs trial in comparison to Scott Ps.  Sure this does not explain everything, but it historically can be documented that in times of upswings in our growth as a country, the stock market goes up, people feel optimistic, and they tend to want to give powerful, celebrity icons the benefit of the doubt.  However, in a wartime, unstable economic environment, there is a tendency to hang the bastards.

This is not to excuse anyone; it is only an observation.

Do you think that judges, prosecutors, civil servants, monarchs or any other embodiment of government is less inclined to swing with the times than a jury? Cause the whole point of grand and petit juries is to provide one final check against government authority. The whole idea is that, no matter what laws congress passes, what regulations are made by their appointed agents, what the judge thinks or the prosecutor and leos say or believe, it still has pass muster w/ 12 of your neighbors before they're allowed to sentence you for a crime. Like our Republican form of government, it's the worst possible way to do it, except for every other way ever studied or tried down through history.
