Title: Researching Posters
Post by: Anonymous on May 01, 2004, 05:59:00 PM
Ginger I am doing some research on some of the posters on your board.  I am searching based on the name they post under.  I am not asking you to reveal anything about their IP's or the such.   Right now I am working on finding all of the posts that have been made by FaceKahn.  Can you tell me how to get all of his posts to come up searching WWF?  It seems to only be giving me those posts made in the last 6 months or so.  I want to be able to go back further than just those.

You want to "research" posters; but you don't say who you are; or why you are so occupied. . .
And you expect Ginger or anyone to help?
Good luck; and by the by, I've got a pig with wings I'll sell you cheep.

Maybe the poster doing the research, is FaceKhan himself?

Ginger, is there a reason why you are not answering the question?

What has happen all of those old posts of his?

Yes, there's a very good reason why I wasn't answering the question. I hadn't seen it. Once in a rare while, I actually do leave this chair and do something else.

Anyway, you're quite correct, the default "show posts by this user" link has a limit on it. One of these days, I should get around to improving that. Before I can take off the results limit, I have to build a pager so that, if someone's made a couple of thousand posts, you don't get hundreds of pages of results (and swamp the server).

I realize that you do every once in a while leave the chair.  I just had noticed you were posting on other topics, just not this one.

Why, when I search under that name does it tell me the user does not exist?  Am I doing something wrong?

Yeah, you must be. Did you put in spaces at the beginning or end of the username? That would do it.

I have always thought that all men should be free; but if any should be slaves, it should be first those who desire it for themselves, and secondly those who desire it for others.  Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.

No, I did not put spaces in the beginning nor at the end nor in the middle.  I just typed the name FaceKahn in the subject area and in the author area.  I tried both together and then one and then the other.

It's FaceKhan, not FaceKahn

That makes a differnce

One more question, are people able to go in and change their Username once they have all ready posted using it?

I am looking for an old poster who posted under the name "notsosmileyface."  I might not have it exactly right but I have searched all the members listed.  The only thing I can figure is that that individual must have changed their user name to something else.  Is that possible?

Yes, you can change your username. Also, you can edit and delete your own posts, unless you posted anonymously.
