A Life Gone Awry: My Story of the Elan School by Wayne K.
I very much understand that by totally undermining this story (book) as a ex-staff/Ass. Director that alone will piss survivors off. The contents of the book could be totally false but because I was a employee and he a supposed survivor it pisses you off. Well I am willing to go there because of what I believe was a grave injustice done to me by Wayne Kernochan. You see I am also a 11 year survivor of institutions. My hell started in 1967 at age 8 and ended in 1978 at age 19 when I left Elan for good.

1/77 - 8/78 employee
This has been a torturous affair for me since this Book was published. I have never given anything as much thought as I have given to the possibility this book could be remotely true. I have called other staff, Directors and residents searching for something, anything that would lend credence to Wayne's accounts of what happened at Elan 7 in the year of 1978. There is a survivor on a facebook group Wayne and I were on that was there when Wayne says he was, yet no recollection. People Elan 7 was a old cottage maybe 800 sq ft in all, that is a maybe. As much as Wayne said he was involved right off the bat in his book, how could any of us not remember him. Nobody knows this guy.
This will be short because I am tired of it.
I tried to associate with Wayne but I realized I was only kidding myself because this book really put a huge wall between us. I really thought in time we would get to talking about it and the honesty would start to come out. I now know this will probably never happen. That is fine because I am all done being a phony. From here on out I will say what I mean and mean what I say.
This Book "A Life Gone Awry", is a total fabrication written by someone who I seriously doubt ever stepped foot on the soil of Poland Springs. I believe he wrote it as a ghost writer for Jerry Torres aka Jeffery Weintraub (Who used to be a Ass. Director at Elan) and with help from others.
I was contacted about 6 to 9 months prior to the books release by a woman (I won't mention her name) she knew me and most of the people Wayne wrote about. She was casually asking questions about years past at Elan and reminiscing about old times and people. She could have been a total fake working for Wayne, we kept her phone # and traced it back to Chicago. I will leave the rest there for now.
I truly believe there are survivors out there who know the full story and know Wayne is a liar, they rationalize it by saying Danny was a employee and came on here and abused people so we got Wayne to write a book that would humiliate him. I mean come on has anyone seen the publisher they want really nothing to do with the book except getting their money for printing. Anyone can publish a book this way and say whatever they want.
Now many have asked why haven't you sued or contacted a lawyer, first off I have contacted a lawyer actually prior to print of the book. This is where I got a bit weak in character I thought if I had challenged Wayne with a lawyer that the backlash from the community and sites would be something I would not be able to recover from. Well I was wrong on all accounts especially my thinking in the first place. I will tell you one thing never go against your better thinking and never trade your convictions for a piece of acceptance.
I am telling the truth here when I say I never committed those horrific acts of violence Wayne says I did. Not only are the acts of violence wrong the sequence of events, people and what houses they were in and when ect....You would only know he is getting this information from others if you were actually there.
His motivations were simple, he felt Mike Skakel was innocent and didn't like what I had to say about him and his family and that I was treating other Elan folks badly here. Wayne
Kernochan found out about Elan was during the trials in Bridgeport. Wayne had no idea that I was subpoenaed on three occasions to Bridgeport with several other Elanians. For someone there everyday of the trial, talking with Micky Sherman ect...who went to Elan and not even know 4 to 5 of us were within walking up to distance. I mean I searched out all the Elan people who were there to say hi, Wayne didn't, Wonder why????? Wayne also said that during this time he was driving a cab in NYC for the past 20 years, what the cab company gave you a 6 month to a year sabbatical to go and lurk around the courthouse in Bridgeport CT.
I don't know when but Felice, Sharon, Mark and Wayne met on the internet in 2008 or early 2009, this was on the site of Sharon McCarthy's site she used to have. They devised this cruel plan to leak a story that Mary O'Brian (at first) then it changed to Mary Jones was dragged behind a van. This was the big joke of the sites. Wayne this year about a month ago finally stated that was a lie. But went ahead an wrote in the book another false horrific incident where Mary was being beaten by 20 people.
In conclusion I ask people to not pass judgment on me to harshly. If you think what Wayne did was justified I can only say I am so happy I don't have to walk in your shoes.
Wayne I am still open to a honest conversation until that time if ever good luck. I hope you are accomplishing the great things you think you are. I doubt it.

Here is what I wrote on the blog above. I did not deserve what Wayne had the woman say about and to me.
Dan, if I may interject. I have had conversations with mscelina long before she had come across you. She is one to call bullshit on a lot of people and express her own opinions, observations and feelings on a lot of things. It behooves you to investigate what else she has written and how she talks to people. She is not a lackey of Wayne by any means. All she knows about Elan has not come mostly from Wayne as there is countless articles and testimonials about the conditions within the place. Elan was not a pleasant place and it fostered behaviours that may have not been conducive for personal growth and maturity. Elan produced monsters - and sometimes the monsters don't get the help to tame them. I casually defended you before I actually looked at your behaviours and it would seem that you have not broken out of the cycle. IT actually sounds like you need some help with your emotional growth to break the habits that beset you.
I am sure you have experienced the same abuses prior to Wayne, have been there before him and made staff when Wayne came. Wayne doesn't know what you saw, heard or felt before you came there. Honestly, I have not seen an effort on your part to elucidate on the chronology of events during the years you were a patient. You have helped fill in some chronologies on who was staff and who was a member, but you haven't told much about the horrors you saw. In fact, I've only seen you elide them and just call them "the abuses you went through for half your childhood." Maybe this can be easily be addressed by showing something you've written to show what the abuse was like when you were there. Maybe show how and why you became the sick tyrant at the helms of your house in Elan - maybe you can show how you have overcome it.
Or if you have not gotten there, seek help. Seek low-intensity therapy that can help with anger-management, cognitive behaviour therapy and so forth. I'd hate to see you be constantly in this rut.

Well I am happy the troll went off on another of his trips, now we can get down to business. Oh, so happy to see the other local trolls of Fornits (None Ya, Dragon Fly and Ursus) pretending to have a set of morals and ethics concerning authentic material posted here. I guess we should give Dragon a pass because he set us up with Mark Levin ain't that right M.C. and Ursus should also be passed by because of his OCD when it comes to posts here being truthful and accurate (when they suit him or fits his agenda of the day). I will break down his book paragraph by paragraph as it pertains to me. Since Wayne has produced no witnessing, testimony or any kind of corroboration, I don't feel I need to either at this time. Will see if the audience here will give me the same latitude and respect you gave the accuser. That was a joke.
The three names I mentioned above were highlighted because so others could see the recent bias that happens on this site. Evidence is not important, sensationalism is.
This is Daniel L. Bennison, I will be rebutting the book A Life Gone Awry by ?????.
The reason for my rebuttal will be explained as you read.
Please take your time when reading and as you did for the author please also have a open mind for my facts.

I will be following the Book referring to pages in the book and the paragraph. If you don't have the book then you should really just be quite because you really have no real interest other then to bust my balls.
Here we go.
pages 16,17,18, 19, 20
The author stumbles right out of the gate he talks about being flown to Maine. Well that would have been impossible because in 1978 Joe Ricci only flew private residents (Parents paid) all employees in 1978 knew this. If you doubt this there are enough ex-employees around to (Wayne knows one Jeffery Weintraub was a Ass. Director who supplied Wayne some of the background info of Elan's daily workings he used to write this story) to validate this claim. Wayne describes the pilot as looking like a pilot dressed like a pilot with a hat, being hairy and so forth. My god the pilots first name was Steve (that is all I can say) he was not hairy or ever dressed in a suit. If you could see Steve then and today you would know this was never the case. Steve was a Vietnam vet pilot who flew helicopters. He out of the war maybe 8 years. He also owned a Electrical Contracting Business and flew for Joe kinda of on the side. Joe's plane was a twin prop Cessna that did carry 6. (lucky guess on the passengers volume) This is also going to kill Wayne, the airport Joe's plane landed, took off from and called home was not Lewiston it was in South Portland.

The author says, the pilot asked me to sit in front seat. Once again this is so erroneous and not even close to the truth. Joe never sent Steve to pick up anyone alone and the child never sat in the front seat close to the controls. Most times the child was handcuffed or in the seat with the seat belt fasten not just for their safety but the other occupants also. The child was watched closely by the spotter (senior resident or staff who accompanied Steve). The spotter sat beside the child directly in back of the pilot, the child sat next to the spotter diagonially in back of the pilot. So as the pilot could watch out of the corner of his right eye the child. We practiced these pick ups routinely as employees at Elan.
Wayne never would have qualified as a pick up with the plane. He was not private paid nor that special.
Wayne was just another kid from CT. that was sent to Elan. There were many kids about a 150 or so that were from CT. in 1978. Considering the population was about 400 in 1978, CT was a major source.
Page 21, I know this is a little thing but I am a stickler for little things, there was no striped van (as a matter of fact in 1978 Elan did not own a Van at all). Registered vehicles in 1978 a green and black station wagons 1978 Plymouth Volare's and a Red Subaru. I am confused on the Mark name because there was no staff or Director by the name of Mark working at Elan 3, 5 or 7 in Poland Springs at the time Wayne said he came. Mark Rosenberg had not become staff yet at this time.
I say staff or directors because the employees in 1978 were the only ones picking up people from South Portland Airport. Why?? Because in late 1977 there was a incident (the second incident) on the plane that dam near killed everyone. It was a private child being transported and things got out of control. So from that point on everything changed and protocol became employees only. It was still this way when I left in 8/78. (for obvious reasons I can not mention the names of who was involved)

The author states that Peter McCann addressed him in the morning meeting at Elan 3. This was Jeff Gotlieb's house (director) and Peter Mc Cann was 62 miles away in Parsonfield where he was director. This was the situation with these two directors according to Wayne's time line. Doubt what I am saying ask around there are enough Elanians around to verify this.
Peter was director of Elan 7 as of 9/77 at this time he physically moved to Parsonfield, Elan 4, though he still maintained authority over Elan 7. He would visit Elan 7 Thursdays in the afternoon during the weekly Director meetings.

The author characterizes Elan 3 as the rich house. In 1978 Elan 3 was one of the poorest, city dwelling, violent offender houses we had other then Elan 4. That is a fact. The Ass. Director was physically assaulted and practically raped while sleeping in the bed provided for employees pulling duty at nights. I personally know this because I was also on duty at Elan 5 that night.
It wasn't till July or August of 1978 that Elan finally started to inject a cross section of residents in Elan 3. The author if we go by his time line was already at Elan 7 for at least 5-6 months. Plus he would not of known this being down in Elan 7.
This is where I will end as of tonight. Thanks for reading if you did. I can only hope that I can raise some suspicion in some eyes as to the validity of this story. Please stay open and unbiased. This is very important to me.

I'm not ben. Ben most likely lives in Georgia or in that corner of the US. I'm from Canada. I'm just as much a victim of institutional abuse, though never as vicious, as you are. I've seen abusive people, I've been in (healthy) therapy along with abusive patients. Some of them were dealing with depression from their own abusive childhoods, some of them were dealing with borderline psychotic symptoms because of abusive upbringings, some of them were sociopaths who were trying to see if they could feel intense and sustained moments of emotion like fear, anger, joy, sadness. The abusers who abused the abusers are either in a sad state of affairs (old age feebleness) or in jail. What I don't want to see you do is continue to try and dismiss the specific actions you have done and dismiss the feelings of others have against you for those actions. Yes you were a victim but you were also a perpetrator. You haven't done that, as far as I can tell.
Where is the compassion towards Wayne when he says that he remembers you being a monster. Not everything might be true, but enough of it has you doing some of the nasty work. That was the modus operandi for the staff at Elan. That was the modus operandi for the staff at many psychiatric facilities for a long time.
Yes, I never went to Elan but I do know how these operations run.
So, to cap it off, stop with the dismissal & deflect with your own intimidations. Just leave it be.

One word of caution should also be made. Danny appears to be doing a “Phishing” ploy to get personal information from his prospects using facebook. If you have a facebook account and you click on the link while you were logged in he will automatically have access to pictures of you and a list of all of your friends and family, as well as pictures of them. I have detected where I believe this has been attempted 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Be very careful.

FWIW this fellow ambled over to my own blog. I’ve dealt with some “motivated commenters” in my time, particularly from another religion which at one time was known for being EXTREMELY activist on the Internet, going so far as to sue people for publishing their materials on Usenet or the Web. Had to clean up my blog from all of their comments after it became clear there’d been several people working together.
I’d feared this guy was the vanguard of a similar effort by AA and/or its fanbois, but it sure looks as though it’s an individual thing with him and not an orchestrated effort. But I plan to keep a close eye on this.
As it stands, Danny Bennison has been monitoring Stinkin’ Thinkin’ in order to keep tabs on what forums I, or other readers of this blog, are paying attention to, where he will either use an alias or comment as DannyB II, in an effort to personally attack or harass, derailing any productive discussion on any other forum. He has done this at the LA Times, Opposing Views, Dispatches from the Culture Wars, The Fix, and today, at Miscellanea Agnostica. He has made an effort to insinuate himself into the confidence of people who are connected to this blog in some way, even while using aliases to personally attack them on other venues.
He was banned from Stinkin’ Thinkin’ for his abusive behavior, and has tried to use aliases — new IP’s and email addresses — to insinuate himself back into the community. Most recently using the handle “Quagmire.”
This is genuinely distressing. I cannot engage in discussions elsewhere online without him showing up. Whenever something we write is picked up by another venue, he will go there to turn the discussion into a personal match between himself and readers of this blog, copying and pasting comments from here into other conversations in order to engage them, and effectively ending all conversation. I am disinclined to comment freely, knowing that he will show up and address me personally, commenting on what he perceives to be my motives and intentions. I’m concerned about the contact he has made with people I consider close to me — people who know my personal contact information. And, he has stated that he has a photo of me, which means that he has been searching for my personal information.

I appreciate your support and encouragement, but I do believe I did something wrong by posting an irrational comment that I did not put much thought into at four in the morning, or whatever time it was. The ramifications of this mistake are much more than I could even imagine.
First, I am shocked at the cruelty of MA’s reaction to what I wrote and how quickly he is willing to dismiss me as a low life, scam artist.
After all of the good I’ve done in our community and all of the times I have linked this site, sung it’s praises and sent my readers and friends here, I cannot believe the way he has responded to me. I do not deserve this.
On top of his nasty comment, he has removed my site from the blog roll, which is nothing compared to the DANGER he has put me in with his response and refusal to remove a comment I made in haste.
Danny Bennison is a certifiable nutcase who is also an abuser of people, especially women. He has already contacted me via email and I feel so threatened by him that I have packed up my belongings and relocated to another location where I will be able to HIDE FROM HIM.
Also, I just got off the phone with my DAD who is sending me enough money to relocate from my new city to another because I may be killed, due to MA’s total negligence in this situation.
I am waiting for my ride and will draft a post about this entire experience as soon as I am settled in ANOTHER STATE.

AN ENEMY OF OUR LITTLE FRIENDS IS MY FRIEND
I came across this on ST’s shitlist and was wondering about this guy. I don’t usually read their drivel so I have no history to fall back on. I’m sure some of you guys are familiar with him and was wondering what the consensus was. He seems ok to me, but I haven’t read all his stuff yet. Diablo – you’ve spent some time with ST, any story here?

Danny aka Diablo aka whatever else he feels like calling himself on that day was CLAUDE over on my blog and tried to get me to move to Tulsa, OK with him, probably so he could chop me up in little, tiny pieces after he raped me repeatedly.
He did send quite a bit of cash to me, while I was in trouble. It musta sucked to find out I AM NOT FOR SALE. I took the money, though. The way I see it, anyone who is stupid enough to send over a grand to a woman whose online persona is a total nut job deserves to be ROBBED. LMAO off all the way to the bank! *wicked giggle!*

Hi Violet!
I appreciate your support and encouragement, but I do believe I did something wrong by posting an irrational comment that I did not put much thought into at four in the morning, or whatever time it was. The ramifications of this mistake are much more than I could even imagine.
First, I am shocked at the cruelty of MA’s reaction to what I wrote and how quickly he is willing to dismiss me as a low life, scam artist.
After all of the good I’ve done in our community and all of the times I have linked this site, sung it’s praises and sent my readers and friends here, I cannot believe the way he has responded to me. I do not deserve this.
On top of his nasty comment, he has removed my site from the blog roll, which is nothing compared to the DANGER he has put me in with his response and refusal to remove a comment I made in haste.
Danny Bennison is a certifiable nutcase who is also an abuser of people, especially women. He has already contacted me via email and I feel so threatened by him that I have packed up my belongings and relocated to another location where I will be able to HIDE FROM HIM.
Also, I just got off the phone with my DAD who is sending me enough money to relocate from my new city to another because I may be killed, due to MA’s total negligence in this situation.
I am waiting for my ride and will draft a post about this entire experience as soon as I am settled in ANOTHER STATE.

This may be the last you all hear from Go-Go Rach. I’ve received death threats on my blog many times over because this is a DANGEROUS FIGHT.

Ok here is the gal Go Go Rach (her blog) that Matt, Felice, Mark and Wayne want you to believe Danny was harassing. She even writes above how Danny supposedly harassed her. Just after she posted the above post on Stinkin Thinkin she was banned by the admins for lying. The person she is referring to (MA) is Mark the owner Admin of the blog. She harassed Mark also as you can see above. I highlited the comments. Wayne was this a oversight on your part??
Wayne asked her to do this for him, write this crap. Guys this is good stuff if you are of the mentally disturbed kind.
Guys you picked a beaut of a gal, here she is being arrested for the umpteenth time. Always concerning stealing, scamming, drugs, free loafing off of people and not wanting to go.
Wayne, Felice and Mark you folks should know a lot about this kind of behavior.
Danny and several other people were close to having her arrested for the same charges about 7 months ago.
This is Wayne Kernochan's friend and fellow writer. Matt, Felice and Mark along with Wayne used this gal to set up the phony emails and usernames to orchestrate this whole campaign where Danny was posting on these various sites. This is what Rachael G. told us anyway. We are not sure she is telling the truth but why would she lie....riiiight. :rofl:
My point is Wayne's friend makes for interesting reading fodder.
When we were dealing with her she was leaving Alameda Ca. to Las Vegas. Her mom had kicked her out for stealing and not working (at 40 yrs. old). The last we heard from her was on Danny's cell phone she left a message saying she was being chased by a big Mexican drug dealer because he thought she had stole crystal meth from him. Danny never answered the message and never had contact with her again.

DOUCHE BAG, CUNT & A TINY COWARD
Friday was the day I was supposed to leave North Carolina for good, but then I got a phone call from the Haywood County Sheriff's department because I have a WARRANT FOR MY ARREST for "cyber stalking."
I actually have to stay here to deal with this bullshit.
The county I have to turn myself into is FIFTY miles away from Asheville, which is a huge problem for a person without a car. I'm working on a ride out there to deal with more FOOLISHNESS.
Then I MAY have to wait for a court date...

As you may have noticed, I have been OFF LINE since the last time the police where LIED to about me.
My laptop is BROKEN.
I get on-line maybe twice a week, if I am lucky.
And, I am not "cyber stalking" anyone.
Especially not the DOUCHE BAG who lied to the police TWO TIMES about me.
By the way, douche bag is more than appropriate. The words are separated because she is not even worth the container referenced.
I make up lots of words.
I have it like that.
CUNT is almost too nice for the likes of a person who is so *JEALOUS* of me that she would use the police to try to hurt me SOME MORE.
As you saw in my last post, I was featured in the Citizen-Times newspaper within a WEEK of moving to Asheville because I actually CONTRIBUTE to the community...
It's GOTTA SUCK TO BE HER.

I tweeted the facts, mixed in with a few choice names. I also wrote a post about my experience in CANTON. I finish the story in my book, VIPERIZE ME, due for release as soon as I am settled.
Yes, I had a melt-down the night she called the police with a FALSE claim that I was "squatting," after she accepted rent from me.
She lied, then put my Tolstoy and I out on the streets of a town in the middle of the mountains, with no place to go or any means to get anywhere.
I was furious.
You would be too.
Within the next two days, I deleted those tweets because I realized I looked like a psycho.
Douche bag used the now non existent tweets for evidence.
Um?
This is not "cyber stalking" or against the law IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM.
It's something one phony bitch wants me NOT TO DO.
She wrote a pretentious post in her defense that a friend insisted I had to hear.
We laughed our asses off, as she read it to me over the phone (I'll never go to her "blog" again, she blocked me on FB so I couldn't read her LIES about me and her twit made me snore ages before she fucked me over).
There is no defense for ruthlessness.
The most interesting thing to me is how she adored my writing and I, until my dad refused to pay her over-due mortgage payments.
Now I have a "blog?"
Thirty five thousand AUTHENTIC hits in less than a year is pretty amazing, if I do say so myself.
I'm never mistaken for a porn star.
My site traffic comes from people who are actually searching for ME, help with extrication from Alcoholics Anonymous or from other reputable sites around the web where I am linked, including Intervention's A & E.
As far as "helping someone who is not willing to help themselves."
It's hard to help yourself after someone else has helped themselves to the last dollars you have for an inhabitable shit hole in the middle of nowhere.
You may remember that I had eight interviews I was forced to cancel because I had NO WAY TO GET THERE.

It's true, nobody plucked me out of loser-ville to encourage me to go to school.
My mother kept me under wraps most of my life.
When I put myself through Emerson College, I pulled myself out, with loads of encouragement from the "hardest professor" at my college.
He is now the Dean of the Film Department and would love to help me with anything he can.
The only reason I'd bother him is for a reference to grad school, when and IF I decide to do so...
Just like most of the professors who teach at one of the most respected PRIVATE universities in the country, he is also a well known published author and filmmaker.
You can look him up.
I'll take their opinion of me, with grace, thank you.
Finally, I'll NEVER *GET* the pathetic act of calling the police on a person without true cause.
That's just LAME.

When this is over, I have a publisher who looks forward to getting their hands on my books.
One more thing.
Every single one these books will be on printed on paper I've earned through the merit of my writing, not stolen by my "husband" from our work place in the middle of HIS shift.
Of course, I'd never treat my husband like that...
or my job, no matter how menial.
