Why doesn't somebody look into the feasibility of chartering a bus to go to the conference. Let's say it started in New York City (or Boston) and picked up passengers in Washington, DC, Richmond, Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia, Tallahassee, Florida. Maybe the cost for such a bus might not be too bad if enough people are willing to take the trip. And I bet the friendships made on such a journey with so many people having a common link would be everlasting.
You could probably use credit cards and pay the money to The Trebach Institute and let professor Trebach then pay for the bus (if he would be agreeable).
If you don't make this conference, then ten years from now you're gonna' kick yourself.

I found out about this conference only last week. I wish I had known about earlier; it would've given me time to save $$$ for the trip.
I am seriously considering asking my parents, who are retired and living in Mexico now, some 3000 miles away from me, to wire me $300 - $500 to go to this conference. I have not asked them for anything in years. I feel like they owe it to me for putting me in Straight. But I am hesitant to ask.

Mindi, where in the east coast are u??? I really want to go to the conference also but $$$ and time off from work is a problem. But maybe for some reason the radio program has got me wanting to go. Perhaps driving down would be possible if there was someone else from the area also going. A bus like Wes said would be cool but it is not going to swing over to upstate NY for me. That would be some deja vu like the straight bus we would ride on in the program. ....kady

I am in Maryland, about 20 minutes' drive east of Washington DC. Driving isn't feasible for me because it would take so much time. I'm thinking I would have to leave on Friday to get down there in time for the conference Saturday-Sunday and then drive back Monday, and I just can't take those two weekdays off.
I need to swallow my pride and ask my parents for the loot. The worst they can say is, "No."

Okay, I just swallowed my pride and e-mailed my Dad asking for $500 to attend the conference ($100 registration + $200 for two nights in hotel + $200 bargain-basement airfare from DC to Tampa/St. Pete). $500, roughly the cost of a month in Straight.
Do you believe this (it's true!!!) my parents are retired and living in Mexico with NO PHONE and NO CAR. My Dad goes to an Internet cafe to check his e-mail a couple of times a week.
I am totally expecting a big fat NO in my e-mail sometime next week. But I had to ask to find out for sure, otherwise I'd never know.

Woo hoo! My Dad already e-mailed me back -- he said YES!!! He wrote, "This sounds like a good thing to do," and went on to say that he would put a check in the mail on Monday. Hopefully it will arrive in time for me to register (gotta figure out how to work PayPal again -- it's been a few years since I used it for online auctions) and book a hotel and airfare.
