Title: We will ride

This is about a girl and her horse.
Is by a Christian artist, so If this isn't something you want to hear, don't listen to it.
I posted it because I found it moving and thought others might as well; especially those who have loved an animal and lost them.

The Good Dog's Epitaph

He never barked when out of season;
Never bit without a reason.
Ne'er insulted weeker brother,
nor wronged by force nor fraud another.
Tho beasts be placed a rank below -
Happy for man, could he say so.

Dogs rule! Cats are ok too!
You gotta love animals, they don't judge.
I'll be checking out this music you've been posting, Buzzkill.

Cats - They can add a lot of affection and adventure to one's life. Several of my favorite pets have been cats. The song writer is also a cat lover: http://wendyfrancisco.blogspot.com/sear ... 20Ragdolls (http://wendyfrancisco.blogspot.com/search/label/Crack%20O%27%20Noon%20Ragdolls)

I'm currently struggling with a personality clash among the household pets. I'm "babysitting" my son's dog for a few days and my cat very much objects. My dog is being a natural born bitch. The poor visiting pup is clueless - and it has been a little tense around here today  :eek:

I know. I know.
they are limited, have different
needs and
concerns.

but I watch and learn from them.
I like the little they know,
which is so
much.

they complain but never
worry.
they walk with a surprising dignity.
they sleep with a direct simplicity that
humans just can’t
understand.

their eyes are more
beautiful than our eyes.
and they can sleep 20 hours
a day
without
hesitation or
remorse.

when I am feeling
low
all I have to do is
watch my cats
and my
courage
returns.

I study these
creatures.

they are my
teachers.

To all you cat people,
Your cats are waiting for you to die so they eat you.
Just like in the wild. They only interact with you when it suits them.

Only a person who has never owned a cat could think they lack devotion. They can be as loving and devoted as any dog. They simply refuse to be doormats.  My favorite "Cat poem"

Pangur Ban

I and Pangur Ban, my cat,
'Tis a like task we are at;
Hunting mice is his delight,
Hunting words I sit all night.

Better far than praise of men
'Tis to sit with book and pen;
Pangur bears me no ill will;
He, too, plies his simple skill.

'Tis a merry thing to see
At our task how glad are we,
When at home we sit and find
Entertainment to our mind.

Oftentimes a mouse will stray
Into the hero Pangur's way;
Oftentimes my keen thought set
Takes a meaning in its net.

'Gainst the wall he sets his eye
Full and fierce and sharp and sly;
'Gainst the wall of knowledge I
All my little wisdom try.

When a mouse darts from its den.
O how glad is Pangur then!
O what gladness do I prove
When I solve the doubts I love!

So in peace our tasks we ply,
Pangur Ban, my cat and I;
In our arts we find our bliss,
I have mine, and he has his.

Practice every day has made
Pangur perfect in his trade ;
I get wisdom day and night,
Turning Darkness into light.'

Cats will turn on you quickly.  If you had a heart attack in your home (or slip into a coma) and had a dog the dog would go 7 to ten days (sometimes 2 weeks) after you are dead before he/she would resort to feeding off you.  Whereas a cat will start pulling at your corpse (hands and feet) within 24 hours and will be feeding off you full time after 2 days (regardless of the other food sources in the house).  The cat has no loyalty towards their owners at all no matter how long you have had them.  Cats will interact when it suits them but they dont really give a shit about you, never will.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on cats or anything else. That said, I do a little doubt there is any actual data proving the theory that a pet cat will eat a dead person over a bowl of cat food. I don't doubt that in a cat hoarding situation, a corpuse would be devoured, whether of person or other cat or rat, as the cats in such situations are generally not well cared for to begin with and will eat what ever is available when ever they can.  So will dogs kept in similar circumstances.  In fact, I expect it would be nearly equally true of people, if kept in similar circumstances.

That said, even so, I personally have never been selflessly, unconditionally loved by any earthly being excepting 3 or 4 cats and 4 or 5 dogs. It is more than I can ever deserve and something I can never live up to - just as is the love and grace of God.

Boy cats are really getting a bad rap. Can't you at least admire their independent mindedness? Their incredible lap warming capacities?  Their low maintenance-ness?

Thats about right! :)
They do tend to see themselves as the rulers of the clan.

Years ago, there was this solder boy from Ft Knox hanging around the house. I wished he wouldn't, but he did anyway. Sitting in the kitchen one night my cat came in, looked him in the face and set about meowing in a demanding way. "Whats wrong with your cat?" he asked.
"You're in her chair." I explained.
"What?"
"You're in her chair." (Cat now quite, but still staring and twitching the tip of her tail)
"You've got to be Kidding?"
"No I'm not - that's her chair"
Cat still staring
"huh. . ."
"Get out of her chair!"
"You're kidding!"
"No, I'm not. Move!" Shoves third chair with foot
"OK - but I can't believe this. . ."
Cat jumps happily into her chair.
Dumb ass solder sits there looking stupid while I read a book and the cats purrs.

5. Chitlins!

4. Field test the blender...

3. Start a newsgroup, "Dead Cats, I'm for 'em!"

2. Makes a dandy fur coat for the Chihuahua.

Since None-ya had fun venting about cats, I will take this much needed opportunity to vent about not dogS but A dog. I like cats and I like dogs but this dog !$*?!

I am babysitting a dog for a friend because no one - not her boyfriend, her sister, or even her mother - would watch this little fucker. And I owed her a solid.

This dog has a serious gender-socioeconomic identity crisis. He thinks he is a fucking Princess. The poor yipper of a Maltese has to suffer through pink bows on a daily basis and a tutu for fun.

And you could walk him to the moon but he'll still poop in the house.

And he yaps 24 fucking 7 and tries to bite every person who comes to the door and will not stop until they leave (I confess I didn't care when it was my ex.  ::evil:: )

And he's so dumb, he likes me even though I sort of loathe him. (This is hard for me to admit. I like to like everyone. But if I were 100% honest, I'd scratch the "sort of")

His owner takes him everywhere - even when people specifically ask her not to.

The dog seriously factored into the demise of her last relationship.

And he's on Prozac!!!!!!!! (The dog, not the boyfriend.)

I knew him before and after the Happy Pill and unfortunately, he built up his tolerance in a week.

WTF?

I cannot, will not do this again.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to vent and not create a new line of fur footballs.

(I suck, I know.)

Pooch is spoiled, insecure, and untrained and probably over medicated.  If the owner will take the time she can make a huge difference to this dogs quality of life. But I am suspecting she won't take the time or make the effort. Poor pup. Poor people subjected to poor pup.

Yep -my Dad likes to say: It's not the dog, it's the owner.  But this owner coddles him so much. The dog rules the roost. WTf does he have to be insecure about?

Not unlike a child, a dog needs to know there are rules and a pack leader. Because the owner has abdicated the role, this dog thinks he is pack leader, because someone has to be, and he is trying to do his job - but for sure and certain his pack often fails to submit - and this is a source of constant insecurity and stress. If the owner would take over the role and establish consistent rules and predictable daily routine the dog would be much happier, manageable and secure.

Seriously, if I were a guy, there is no way I could sustain a relationship with dog owner - just because of this dog. It would be  a deal breaker.  My annoyance and disgust over dog would transfer to owner. I have never thought that way before, but now I get it when people say that.
