Title: Mobile phones are now allowed in several Danish prisons
Post by: Oscar on May 28, 2009, 05:20:13 AM
The inmates went on strike and the minister of justice phoned them until they had an agreement about the costs of communication between inmates and their family.

So the solution is to install a locked phone inside each cell there the inmate can insert his or her personal card, so they can receive calls from their family (and others).

Prisoners in Horserød Strikes (Google translated newspaper article from a Danish newspaper) (http://http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=en&js=n&u=http://www.bt.dk/article/20090526/krimi/90526061/&sl=da&tl=en&history_state0=)

If it can be done in a prison where security has to be an issue, surely it can be done in a program also.

Just an idea.

Can they order pizza with these phones?

Though on a serious note if you look over some of the stories involving use of public payphones in larger American prisons and the dangers associated with them I can't help but wonder if this isn't a half bad idea. From the stories I've heard, no way to verify them either, many public phones in American prisons are under the control of various gangs.

This might go along way in reducing butt rape incidents in the shower over making a call to grandma on her birthday.

Also regarding the program part of your post:

LOL, wut?

unhindered communication in a program? ARE YOU MAD?

lol, you silly Danes! That would undermine the whole point of a program by allowing the kid contact with the outside world. How could they break a child down to build them up with communicating freely on a cell phone?
