Title: Hyde on phil Donahue
Post by: Oz girl on October 21, 2007, 12:35:21 AM
Apparently in the 80's the Donahue show did some sort of
"Feature" on this school. Are there any ex students who remember this? Were involved?

I don't know remember the Phil show.  I remember the Today show piece.  The Today piece was shot before I got there.  I recall Hyde getting a video tape player from the Gannett station in Portland and playing the tape for us.  It was a big point of pride for Joe and Co.  I believe some of the folks featured in that piece have had a pretty dramatic turn around in their thinking about the Hyde Process.
I was at the school meeting in the Time magazine article.  That piece cracks me up.  It has this staff guy named Jim confronting a kid.  If there is ever a Broadway production of "The Timid Soul" Jim should be cast as Casper:

When he did things like that he was so clearly out of his native character it cracked me up.

Donahue's Hyde show was one of the highest rated in his history. It featured some Chicago area students..Margo Calvetti, Michelle Correa, Donna Anderson?
Was a pretty good show, a lot of kids came to the school because of watching that show.

Well, Margo got herself onto the Board of Directors.  Michelle got herself killed in a motorcycle accident (?).  Whatever became of Donna Anderson?

Other Chicago area students that I remember from that time (mid 70s) are Robbie Stafford, Clay and Warren Press, and Mer Zahbeh (sp?).  I think all four of these latter pretty much hated the place, whether or not they were successful there.  Perhaps they feel differently now.

Well, I guess Rob couldn't have hated it all that much then, ha haa!  I must confess, I based my presumption on Warren's take on the place.  The two were often of the same mind on many issues.

I ran into Warren in the late 70s and he couldn't stop talking about what a load of crap Hyde was.  I was actually a bit shocked to hear that then, especially given his standing at the school... Weren't the both of them Senior Leadership at some point?

Oh that frigin' Donahue!  What a kiss-ass liberal pill that cornball was.  Wouldn't even tell me what kinda hair tonic he uses.  Probably has one of those Bosley implant jobs!  Har har har!!
