I was 12 years old then. I'm 34 now. Lot's of years have passed. Sometimes my memories are so vivid. Other times they are jumbled and vague.

I actually never wanted to think of that place again once I left. I did try to tell ppl how it was but they looked at me like I was fucking nuts. So, I just gave up and stopped saying anything. So a week or two ago I was talking with my sister and we started talking about when my mother put me in Straight. One thing led to another and I did a "google search" for Straight. Long story short......I found this place. Which is kinda "cool" ; )

I never thought in a million years I would talk to people from that hell hole.

Nice to meet cha!!!! :P

Seriously though, it's a shame that this kind of treatment is endorsed by the government and still takes place in the SAME building at least in Ohio. We did a memorial last November in the back of the Backlick Rd building. Lots of healing and emotional stuff resolved. Well, take care, watch out for the rogue wave memory flashes... and THEY are nuts, not us! :lol:

I have been reading more and more about Straight, Inc and other places like it. It is sickening.

My husband was also placed in a treatment facility when he was 14. Not quite the same experiences I had at Straight, but he understands to an extent.

We have talked about what we can do, to at least raise awareness. It is just so hard to get the word out there. No one really understands. Or perhaps, they just don't care because it didn't happen to them, or anyone they know. BASTARDS!!!!!

I never heard of Straight then, even though I'm familiar with Backlick Rd. I worked at Waxie Maxie's, Wall to Wall's Springfield store, spent a lot of time at Veneman's Music, occasionally stumbled drunk into Dauphin's Steak House (If you know the place - SINNER!) and Octopus Garden in Woodbridge for nitrous and bongs, and never heard or read a word about the shithole Straight. Diva's site rattled me to the core - I've never seen so many post-program deaths, the worst I've ever read about. You guys have my utmost respect for getting through De Riddler's hell.
