LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Students in the Cache County School District will be taking a test before they can participate in extracurricular activities.
The district is starting mandatory drug testing this fall. That means whether the students play football or play the tuba, they're required to take the test.
Students in grades 9-12 who want to participate in events sponsored by the Utah High School Activities Association will be tested before the season. Some will be randomly picked for tests later in the year.
Students who test positive for any of six drugs could be suspended or barred from activities. Their academic standing would not be affected, nor would names be forwarded to police.

And if you believe that, I'd like to sell you the Pacific Ocean.
Kids! Stay out of school! Stay on drugs!

Yes, they do that here too, including colorguard.

They really have to, if you think about it. It wouldnt be fair to just require the sports people to be tested.

It's not fair to have them tested either. They should just drop this whole goddamn drug war nonsense.

The insurance companies drive all of this stuff. If a kid dies in sports and then they find out he was doing drugs at the time (speed etc) or connected some how the parents want answers and ways to prevent it. If nothing is done and it happens again then the parents sue the school, the insurance companies end up with the bill so they insist the kids be tested or they threaten to drop the school from coverage.
In order to cover their butts from discrimination suit they cant just test some of the kids, or those they suspect of doing drugsthey need to test all of them or the parents will sue for discrimination
Inurance companies
Ever notice public and private pools dont have diving boards any more or diving teams. Insurance companies wont cover any pool that has one. They have the final say on everything.
