Why hasn't there been a class action suit against the newtons? Can't we all band together and do the two things that need to be done:
1. Bankrupt this man so he doesn't have a penny
2. Put his ass behind bars where it belongs
There have been class action suits against individuals/corporations in the past for abuse. Has anyone previously discussed this on the board?
Can't we all sue like Rebecca did? But instead of individually, we should do it together.

According to the attorneys that were at the first conference, you only have one or two years to file after the offense so most of us are screwed in that department. Of course, if you really want to enact some change, get that law reversed that puts a statute of limitations on this kind of stuff. Victimization is victimization and we shouldn't have to contend with a time limit before we are strong enough to face our abuser. But yeah, I wish we could get a class-action suit going! Can you imagine the legion of persons that would come forward?

Statue of limitations wouldn't apply to our case if we could prove that the damage or incident doesnt fall in the guideline. I have been diagnosed by several profesional with having post traumatic stress disorder, dipression and anxiety attacks. I went into kids at the age of 13-18. I am 31 now and still affected by the child abusers Miller and ruth. I was only a boy and kids abused me sexually, physically, mentally etc............. So if presented by the right attorney, I still live the nightmare today, in my dreams and in situations that remind me. I think a class action suit is very possible.After surviving that monster, we are far more capable than we realize. if interested leave email message response .I will contact you.

I want to be involved on behalf of my 2 brothers and one sister who were in that program for too long. My one brother now suffers from schizophrenia and drug addiction. My sister has severe post traumatic stress disorder, drug addiction and is with a man who beats her. My other brother is a pathological liar with a major drug addiction and a temper that cannot be controlled. I tried to no avail to visit them when they were first in the program. I could discuss my interview with kids of north jersey with you and the difference between me and most other people is that I have no addictions, nor have I ever been in trouble. I can tell you about the abuse inflicted on me in that 30 minute interview and how scared I was after that. I was told if I ever wanted to see them again that I would have to go through their program. I left that place as fast as I could. But, it kills me to see my brothers and sister experience the permanent damage left by that place.

I have spoken with numerous attorney's over a 3 year period regarding a class action lawsuit against Sembler's and Newton. They all have the same answer....5 years and the statutes of limitations is over. No way, no how can we pursue this thing. It angers the hell out of me, but I doubt there is anything we can do. I advise you not to take my word for it; go see some attorney's yourself. If you were sexually abused by Newton, then there may be a chance, but that will be very difficult to prove.

What about the possibility of suing him for keeping people in ids despite sexual abuse.
I know of at least one attempted rape within Kids.
It was strictly "kid-on-kid" (for lack of a better phrase).
It would be decidedly difficult to come up with enough of that sort of thing to put together a class-action suit, however.

I spoke with my lawyer for shits and giggles and if we or someone could get a doctor to testify claiming we had no idea of limitations and damage was caused after kids due to kids then guess what Kids (no pun intended) we got a big ass lawsuit that could run into hundreds of millions of dollars in damages where himself and isurance companies would have to pay including new jersey state. This is no bullshit, look it up you will see that what I am saying is true. Example alter boys who were molested fifteen years ago are now suing for damages,surprise miller your not out of the woods yet.

Please let me know if your lawyer gets excited about this. If there was a good chance of cutting off this kind of public funding, mandate, etc., I'd be willing to throw my hat in the ring, regardless of the prospects for a cash pay-off.

I'm in. I could right a book on how the brain washing I recieved in KIDS caused me to stay out there on the streets for years. I was more susceptible to their brainwashing bcause I had a serious problem when I came in and wanted a better life. Who knew... They taught me how alright... :???:

I would like to be involved on behalf of my sister who, 15 years later, still suffers from severe PTSD, anxiety attacks, cutting, etc. and is in and out of hospitals for self-harming. The community residence she currently lives in does not have access to the internet, however I have offered to submit comments for her, and if things move forward, can put you in touch with her directly.
One thing to consider - the RICO act - originally created for organized crime, but includes provisions for civil cases where an individual is harmed by apattern of illegal activity. It is currently being involked by a TX attorney pursing a child-abuse case with the "Krishnas" and a CA attorney pursuing "SAFE". Both suits seemed to have defendents that had passed the Statute of Limitations.

Hi...My name is Kara and I was in Kids of Bergen County in 1986....As I read this message board I can see that I am one of the lucky ones who got out before enough damage was done......I ran away after I reached 2nd phase, and thank God every day for parents who believed in me.....Today I am a 35 year old woman who has been happily married for almost 11 years....I have 4 beautiful children and I am a very happy ,healthy productive member of society......all this, after I too, was told I'd never be anything....My heart feels like it is bleeding for all the souls on this site......Even after all these years it feels like yesterday when I read all this.....I would love nothing more than to help bring down this bastard for all the pain & damage he has caused so many....Please let me know , I will be willing to fight this out with all of you.....God bless you all

I was in kids from July of 86 thru September 86....I ran away when I was on 2nd phase, and thank God my parents never sent me back.........My Mom saw that there was some weird stuff going on, I knew bad things were happening also....I just never knew some of it went so far....BUT, I am by no means surprised.....They were horrible people, if that's what you want to call them........My name is Kara Rendon, well it's different now, I've been married for almost 11 years.....I would be very interested to know who you are.....There are many people I remember from there....like Gino, and a girl named Lynn, she used to cut herself up all the time, I also remember Danielle Burt and Nicole Avella ....we might have been there at the same time....Thank God I didn't have to endure what so many others did, but I will tell you that it definitely affected my life....it was 17 years ago, and it still feels like yesterday.....Hope to hear back from you

I just found this site a few days ago... I was bored just searching around. I am reliving many memories as I read every single article and most posts over the last few days. I can say that there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of that shithole. I can also say my life has improved 3000% since 1987. But it took many years of real bullshit to finally feel OK. There is no way I will ever forgive those monsters and the people who still support them. There will be scars forever but I know I can live with them. I have much to be thankful for now. With this said, it does not change the fact that Virgil-Newton, his scank wife, and their supporters were deeply involved in child abuse. It is as plain and simple as that. Child abuse!! Along with the child abuse is the criminal aspect of insurance fraud and downright stealing. How many of our parents had to take out loans to keep us in there. How many of our siblings did these pieces of shit put into the program after they would convince our parents that they had a behavioral or food problem, so more money would be dumped into this "profitable child abuse warehouse". How fitting that both buildings in NJ were warehouses. They had nice cars, nice places to live and a yacht... I am sure they were thinking about how much they were helping children as a non-profit organization while cruising around on their fucking boat that our parents bought them.... They are criminals!! There is not one person who could ever convince me that he honestly thought that what was being done was helpful to a child in any way, shape, or form. The brainwashing, the physical abuse, the mental abuse, the feeling installed in all of us that we were nothing but crap is a crime. It sure helped feeling this way when the lucky ones like myself who ran went back out into society with this feeling. I'm sure the people who stayed on had it real easy adjusting to normal living as well after the fact. And what about the people who have passed... What was the point of all that? Were we supposed to live as robots the rest of our lives? It is just amazing how much we were reamed for lying let alone looking at the "girls side" and they continously lied to us, to our parents, the state, reporters, etc.... with no reprocussions until 2000. I was totally convinced this dickbag and his scank wife were long gone.... I know better now. I only wish them pain and suffering the rest of there pointless years..... It's not over Father Cassian you fucking criminal!!

What about researching the possibility of NJ neglecting numerous child and civil abuse claims. Neglecting 'youth' civil rights... There were a few people I believe that were 'supportive' to Newton from the state dept. During the startup of BC, Nancy Reagan was in her prime supporting the war on drugs. From what I have heard she & government were sympathetic to programs like these (tough love). That's probably why people like myself who did complain when they ran where told they were worthless and liars.... We were garbage! Remember? Imagine that going on in your neighborhood today. Class action suit against NJ!? Maybe? I understand the statues of limitations against Newton but I think there is a way to reverse/appeal them. Children raped by a Catholic priest are filing 30 years later... That is child abuse. So was this program. In my opinion, we would really need to organize with a plan. Maybe signed statements, indications of neglect/abuse etc... I think that is the only way we could see any action. You know I couldn't care less if I ever saw a dime. I want to bankrupt his family. Nothing left for his kids when they die and go to hell... I also just want the satisfaction that I had a bit to do with their misery.... Unfortunately I am not a lawyer..... It's OK to dream though!

I've done a lot of research on this on behalf of my three siblings, all of who are still suffering the effect of kids of north jersey. They were there at the end, right before it closed down. Unfortunately, there is no more money to go after if you go after Newton himself. I believe it was a Rebecca who received the first settlement and then there is another who has just started trial in a lawsuit against Newton. Due to those two lawsuits, there simply is no insurance money left. Newton has claimed bankruptcy and all of his current possessions are protected. I have thought about going after New Jersey though - but don't forget New Jersey is probably one of the most corrupt governments in the nation. Plus, Newton's programs all have roots with very powerful individuals, including the Bush family. What's really sad is that these programs still exist in America today. Look at the program in Costa Rica that was just shut down. I cried when I read those children's statements about what went on there - it was like reliving the past. I also have to point out that Costa Rica is a peaceful nation with no military, and a very, very small police force. The fact that they were able to recognize the abuse and shut the program down, and we can't in America is simply unacceptable. What I would love to see happen is for all the survivors to join together and have a mass expose on all the individuals behind these programs and the truth.

Me too! There are lots of ways to go about it, but my favorite (because I'm sooooo lazy and enjoy writing) is to keep up with what these players are up to now. Look for their names in association with anything that pops up in the news and that they'd likely be involved in. When you spot them getting softball coverage or even promo fluff treatment from the media, write to them and tell them the other side of the story.
It really puzzles me to see Marijuana connected with Narcotics - Dope and all that crap?it's a thousand times better than whiskey - it's an Assistant - a friend.
