I mean, give me a freakin' break:
First there was an emphasis on exercise, and then came along diet kibble. Today, the FDA is approving the first prescription diet drug for dogs.

Pfizer?s Slentrol cuts Fatso Fido?s appetite and reduces fat absorption, too, the FDA says. ?This is a welcome addition to animal therapies, because dog obesity appears to be increasing,? said Stephen Sundlof, the veterinarian who heads FDA?s Center for Veterinary Medicine.
?Veterinarians are well aware that overweight pets are at a higher risk of developing various health problems, from cardiovascular conditions to diabetes to joint problems.?
Yeah I know there are plenty of pet lovers out there. Want doggie diet pills "approved?" Pay for it yourself. Or here's a thought ... quit giving the damn thing so much food and take it out for a walk.
This is not a proper use of taxpayer funds (in fact, the FDA isn't a proper use of taxpayer funds but that is another long libertarian discussion).

And don't ya know, their overweight owners would much rather clean up
vomit, loose stools, and diarrhea (side effects of the drug) than consider feeding them less and taking them for exercise.

Wasn't there a craze for a while of putting dogs on prozac, too? For behavior and abandonment disorders?

So many humans and animals on Prozac that they're finding it in the flesh of fish. Worried about how it will impact reproduction.
