Is anyone familiar with the "Chapel Project"?
What I understand is that HLA had collected from donors to do some sort of project - don't know the details - and had collected about $300,000.00 to that end.
I am hearing that this money has "disappeared" and that the donors are rumbling about what happened to their donations.
Does anyone else know about the "Chapel Project"?

the chappel, the new office building, the pool, the addition to the house on the hill, lots of money, little or no real progress on the construction, show me the money
-
This gets more and more interesting by the day. Wonder what they're telling the parents about all the turnover and chaos?
-
teh same thing that they always do, it's normal, all is well
-
Maybe, but it sure looks like this is a little more serious than anything they've had to deal with before. They can't hide it all with all the leaks coming out of that place. Wonder how many parents have started looking into things and maybe have stumbled across Fornits?
-
They cannot blame the children for this ONE!

I heard that one of the EdCons who received the Poole emails was going to forward them to parents of kids there currently and previously. This will create a MUCH BIGGER mess than is already happening.
What goes on there is SO FAR REMOVED from what the parents (and apparently the EdCons) are told that this solid evidence sent out by Poole is going to open some eyes for sure.
You can thank Nicole for that I guess. She treated Poole like a resident when he raised his concerns. She fully dressed him down with extreme condescension and he got pissed enough to do something about it. She lit the fire and he carried the torch.

Taking from Peter to pay Paul is not an uncommon practice at a lot of these programs. It only becomes a problem when a donor starts asking questions.

it's true that funds get shuffled from one project to another, but when it takes over two years to build a building ( office), not even break ground on another (chappel), start and stop on another ( pool) yet complete only one ( the house on the hill) it's realy hard to hide. You can give all the excuses in the world, but the proof is right there in front of your eyes, where did the money go? Not to mention the gym floor fiasco, or the bathroom renovation in the dorms
-
yet complete only one ( the house on the hill)
Funny how all of the stuff for the kids never gets done, but the "house on the hill" is finished in remarkably quick fashion.
It's interesting to note that that house is Len and Ken's house.
Ya gotta have priorities, folks.

I was just getting ready to ask what house they were talking about. Not for the kids then, huh?
Fucking amazing. I hope the parents are starting to wake up.

What about the bathroom renovations? What was wrong with them?

tear up the carpet, paint the floor to save money, watch the paint peel off, strip the rest of the paint off the floor, lay new carpet.
rip out old shower stalls, take months to do the work, put up new tile, watch tile fall off wall, all the while only a few showers working.
you tell me what's wrong

Just watch! They will, I guaran-damned-tee it. That or the silly parents or disgruntled staff. See, in this kind of group, the group takes on a sort of exhaulted, faultless life of it's own. When the people involved fuck up and get caught at it, the members and supporters (two distinct groups--members are supporters but not all supporters are members) must be at fault. See? The group can't be at fault because it's inviolate. Every member and most supporters have a vested interest in maintaining that illusion at all cost. They've invested their money, their time, severed important ties, sanctioned unconcienable acts, mostly against their own children, etc.; all in support of the inviolate high holy cause.
So the cause can't be allowed to take the blame or everybody involved has to look in the mirror each day knowing that they, not the cause, are personally responsible for all that they have done and condoned.
The blame falls, consistently, on the weakest members and scapegoats capable of bearing it to the satisfaction of a consensus of believers.
Even if HLA as an institution and Bill and Len as individuals wind up getting thrown to the wolves at the end of this round, the high holy cause will remain inviolate in the minds of the true believers. They'll just scatter to other programs and organizations or set up camp as their own, new and improved versions of same.

Re: Tax-deductible donations to the chapel fund:
November 21, 2001
?.. As most of you are aware, another area of student life and growth we feel is crucially important is the spiritual development of our students. As part of our Spiritual Reflections program, all students participate in both on and off campus spiritual activities on a weekly basis. these special times encourage students to grow in their individual faiths as they are nurtured into maturity. We also place strong emphasis on the spiritual principles contained within the Twelve Steps for students dealing with substance-abuse issues. The recent events in New York and Washington have reinforced our already strong belief in the need for increased spiritual development in the young people of our nation and world.
We have undertaken the task of building a chapel on our campus, which will symbolize the importance of faith, worship, and reverence. This chapel will be used by all faiths on our campus. The priest, rabbi, and ministers who work with our students are all very supportive and excited that we are building this house of worship. The chapel will also e used for graduations, student assembles, and other appropriate events.
Over the past several months many of you have contributed to our Chapel Fund. The Fund recently reached the $300,000 mark. The total cost will be $1,500,000. the final plans for the building have been approved, we have sent out requests for bids, and with your continued support construction is slated to begin in March of next year.
As this year nears its end, we should reflect on the recent events we have witnessed in our world. Through the fear and losses, most, if not all of us have turned to our faith to help guide us. This is what we wish to instill in our students. We hope that you will consider how your family can make a tax-deductible contribution to the HLA Chapel Fund. Your willingness to share your resources really will make a difference in the lives of many.

-
Ohhhhh... They collected $300,000.00 as of 2001 and planned on breaking ground in March of 2002. I see.
Then, it stands to reason that there was a heck of a lot more donated to the cause than the $300k referenced in the letter.
Where did all the money go?
How far has construction gotten on the Chapel? Has ground ever been broken? Have donations been refunded? ()

Think about this for a moment, please. This entire industry rests on solid, pervasive and overwhelming fear of certain relatively benign traits and behaviors in our children.
I think you can describe these, generally, as allure to cultural affects other than those of the parents. They all have essentially the same kinds of "warning signs".
- Flunking out of school or lack of interest in it.
- Deviation from parents sexual or romantic norms.
- Use of currently demonized drugs or affiliation/acceptance of those who do use them.
- Music, fashion, other preferences that suggest or state loudly such kinds of rejection or challenge.
None of these standards are long lasting or correlate to success or failure, peace or war or prosperity or austerity in any culture. And yet there is a strong correlation (causual, I think) between condemned scapegoated cultural affectations and living a fucked up life.
If we condemn homosexuality, despite it having been present in all of the higher order critters for all of known history, we get fucked up adult homosexuals. Would they still be fucked up people if they had come up in a time when they weren't punished for it?
Same with various drugs. In 1920, fashionable, successful people used Cannabis candy, tincture and other preparations. Some of the more daring, artistic, aristocratic types even had parties to eat and or smoke hash and then write about it. It never fucked up their lives. Now? A kid can find themselves excluded from vital social contacts and oportunities, uneducated, imprisoned, convicted and on the outs w/ his own family for it. THAT will fuck you up for life!
Same with every specific aspect of bad behavior that they claim to address, except for one; rebellion. In every time in all of human history, the rebels have been the ones who live to tell the tale.
What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.

Yeah. When I was there a bunch of years ago visiting my kid they made a huge pitch to all the parents for money for the "chapel." I was told then by another parent that HLA has been hitting up parents for years for the so-called chapel. Amazing.
-
When was your child there? Mine was there 2000-2001 and I received numerous requests for donations, and I was considered an 'adversarial' parent- didn't make the placement or support it.

Adversarial-translates to doesnt make donation to non existent projects.
Hows the horse program coming guys?

The horse program is actually coming along nicely. Four horses have been purchased and the barn is just about ready.

Is that a fact? Cause last I heard it was promised to be done by Valentine's day at which point it was nothing but some scratches in the dirt.
My understanding is nothing has been accomplished with it at all.

As of February 1 there was no barn, no horses, no nothing.
Keep in mind that this is nothing more than an advertising gimmick. There is no such thing as "equine therapy." This is designed for the sole purpose of pitching to wealthy marks that their kid can learn horsemanship while at HLA.
I personally happen to know a great deal about the horse business having been raised on one of the most successful Arabian farms in the northeast, and I can tell you that four horses is woefully inadequate to provide meaningful interaction for 150 kids.

Didn't someone else talk about how the pasture, corrals and lunging rings (or do they even have any of that set up) are all sand? Not good for the horses. Sand cracks, colic and all.

Send picutres, that was fast as of the 1st there was nothing there, but dirt....

took my friend a couple months to raise her barn, ring and all...construction people were their every day.Maybe Lenny B. called up
the "quakers" and offered them "pizza to have a barn raising party...We know Jimmy Carter didn't show up..

no they are just converting the SAC to a barn, the students seldom get to use it.
-
they'll turn the counselor building in to the tack room, it's already musty and moldly, and has mice.

So, I see the HLA staff are strictly avoiding the discussion regarding the Chapel Fund.

Yeah, the horses have the same qualifications/licenses/certifications as the counselors/teachers so maybe they'll do a better job.

Aside from the absurdity of your post, have you ever read any studies about "animal therapy" (equine, dolphin, dog, etc)? It's a load of garbage and totally, completely ineffective.

Of course its theraputic whats the matter with you people?
Using the children as slave labor to build a horse program at a school none of them attend and none of them are allowed to use is theraputic!
Only more so by the fact that the horses are in fact mechanical.

I am not trying to distract. I am just wondering why people are calling this an Equine Therapy program, if HLA is not calling it that.
Slave Labor- What specifically were they having to do? My understanding is that if they want to work with the horses, they have to be involved with all parts of it. Grooming, cleaning, riding. It is all voluntary.
I also understand that they were using the MBA property because there were already structures there that could be used for a stable, instead of having to wait for the builders to put one on HLA's property. It got the kids riding faster.
I don't think I am stating anything untrue. DJ? Do you see anything untrue about these statements?

I dont know if HLA is calling it "equine therapy" or not. Either way though they have sought donations for it for years and little has been accomplished.
Why?
The law is being broken when kids are forced to do maintaince or construction. Hence slave labor.
As for the site being at MBA...are the parents aware of this? Theyve been shelling out all this cash for an almost non existent program and when its all said and done the program is being built at another property. One where the inmates dont live. Will HLA bus them to MBA everytime one of them wants to ride a horse? What about the fact that MBA's future is at this point doubtful? Will Buchi hang onto the property without developing it simply for a barn?
You let me know and please pick out a user name and tell us your connection to HLA.

I am not trying to distract. I am just wondering why people are calling this an Equine Therapy program, if HLA is not calling it that.
HLA has advertised the hiring of an "equine therapist." To me this means "equine therapy." I don't know how the're spinning it to parents, but from past experience I can only guess that they tell each individual parent or agency whatever they want to hear at the moment, true or not.
Slave Labor- What specifically were they having to do? My understanding is that if they want to work with the horses, they have to be involved with all parts of it. Grooming, cleaning, riding. It is all voluntary.
Kids and staff from HLA were used to improve the MBA property.
There's a couple of issues here. One, using the kids as labor for material improvement of the owner's property is in violation of their accreditation requirements and ORS regulation.
Two, use of employees from a not-for-profit company and the attendees of the program to improve privately owned property for the material benefit of it's owner is illegal.
In addition, I've have been told by parents that their children were forced to do the work and it was not voluntary (in either case it's still illegal).
I also understand that they were using the MBA property because there were already structures there that could be used for a stable, instead of having to wait for the builders to put one on HLA's property. It got the kids riding faster.
They're using MBA property because there was a chicken coop that they converted into a barn using free labor of kids and staff that are paid by HLA. Again, illegal.
They could not build on the HLA property (which was the original plan) because they have not made payment on their loans and construction contracts and cannot borrow any money or hire a contractor to do the work because of bad credit, bad payment history and outstanding lawsuits demanding payment for services.
The "riding program" is still not running, but the hurried construction and purchasing of horses was simply for the benefit of visiting Ed Cons on the "Dogwood Tour" to allay their concerns of HLA's financial viability and rampant allegations (and documented proof) from former employees about abuse and neglect, including soaking up largesse from gullible parents while simultaneously cutting services to the bone and placement of violent criminals (rapists, batterers and pedophiles) into the program by the owner (to name just a few).
DJ? Do you see anything untrue about these statements?
Yes, I certainly do.
-
The therapist , was an instructor from Ridge Creek that got tired of the work.
the money they put into improving MBA land would have went a long way to buidling at HLA?
since when is ok to collect donations for years for a chapel then change it to convocation center? is this a marketing ploy?
I understand the pool can not get C/O due to septic system failing, so donations for that for the kids NOT to use it,?
-
Hey Buchi and Spoonie need to redecorate their condo.
Have some consideration.
-
since when is ok to collect donations for years for a chapel then change it to convocation center? is this a marketing ploy?
There is no chapel or convocation center and there likely never will be.
They've been collecting for years and estimates range from $250k-$500k+ already collected and ground has never been broken.
"Marketing ploy"? No. "Theft by conversion"? Probably more like it. Face the facts. As former employees (like the business manager) have said "That money is GONE."

An attorney or a title search company can be hired to run a title search to confirm if there are or aren't liens on the property. The Lumpkin County government office can't release the information over the phone, but tax liens are a matter of public record and can be obtained by running a title search.

An attorney or a title search company can be hired to run a title search to confirm if there are or aren't liens on the property. The Lumpkin County government office can't release the information over the phone, but tax liens are a matter of public record and can be obtained by running a title search.
HLA does, in fact, have several liens against it. These have been posted with documentation on this website already. Their D&B report was also posted showing HLA to be a "slow payer" on most debts and defaulting on others.

This turns out to be a big piece of the suit.

Word on the street is that the "Chapel Funds" are no longer missing...Rumor has it that the "Chapel Fund" has recently been replaced....go figure....
-
I would venture to say that the Dahlonega Wal-mart recently had a run on shredders! Finally, one job you can't stick the students with.

NOT SO...we still have plenty of shredders!....rumor has it that they didn't feel our shredders were big enough ,so they contracted an Industrial Shredding company that is coming in this week.....

THE CHAPEL FUND HAS BEEN FOUND! OH, HAPPY DAY!
-
Hmm. Financial shenanigans. I wonder if they're laundering money?
Anyone remember Michael Bolton from Office Space?
"If they catch us laundering money, we're not going to white-collar resort prison. No no no. We're going to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison."

Funds restored to the missing Chapel Funds and now a run on shredders. Is this HLA-Gate? Is Fawn Hall going to help out with some shredding, too?

This has all simply got to be a joke....this is ridiculous...no one would
be that insane to do something like that now....it must be a staff inside joke....and anyone including Wal-Mart would be equally crazy
to sell their services...no one in their right mind would touch this...or advise to do this....
-
I do not suppose it is going to be" Attention ALL Liquidators"...this is a bit much.....get real...

"Desperate times call for desperate measures."
Bucci knows he's being watched and he's probably panicking right about now. If HLA plans to shred documents, this would not bode well for HLA in court. Plus anyone who's involved in destroying potential evidence becomes an accessory and could face jail time.

Here is something funny I learned about the "chapel fund" while I was there. One day I was waiting for Dr. Riddick outside her HLA office in the admin building and I saw the infamous adversiting they had in there. They were trying to raise $1.4million for the chapel. I also found out later from a trustworthy staff that the "rumor mill" said that they were planning to build the chapel underground in order to promote a "more religious experience."
It was quite entertaining =)

People people people. The chapel fund was never missing. Big Brother Buchi was protecting it from us. Without his love we would have misused it and built something pointless and stupid, like a chapel.
-
The chapel fund WAS missing, then it was "replaced," but now it's missing again - gone.
In addition to the chapel fund's being raided, the donations that came in under the name of Patrick Kennedy have now reportedly gone "missing" as well.
This place a serious problem with accounting.
-
Are we talking about Congressman Patrick Kennedy?
-
No. A student who died.
