Title: Neuropsychiatry
Post by: Anonymous on December 15, 2005, 12:23:00 PM
Neuropsychiatry is at the threshold of becoming
the prevailing paradigm of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurology. Many clinical disorders such as the dementias, delirium, stroke, epilepsy, brain injury, movement disorders, attentional disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders and schizophrenia are regarded as core neuropsychiatric disorders.

The explosion in neuroscience has resulted in the prominence of neuroscientific principles in the
understanding of mental disorders.

The developments in neurogenomics, neuroproteomics and psychopharmacology have signaled novel treatments that were hitherto unimaginable. Direct brain interventions such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation and deep brain stimulation have opened new avenues of intervention.

The
Congress will deal with these topics at the cutting edge. In particular, the clinician will be informed in both theory and practice.

Well, Like I said - it's about damned time.  The witch doctors have been handing out pills like a ticker tape for years with no clinical evidence.  Maybe now they'll start focusing on the facts of mental distress rather than throwing a magic potion at it.
