Title: Castle's rant on CA prop 8. I now pronounce you nothing.
Post by: try another castle on November 07, 2008, 03:03:15 AM
Yup, it passed. Thanks to out-of-state influence mostly. Queers can't marry... in California. California? Wait, isn't that the faggot state? Yes.. Yes it is.

I know there are a lot of people who say "well, fuck marriage anyway. why do gays want to have to deal with the same bullshit that hetero couples do?" You know, the whole jaded, marriage-is-a-totally-fucked-up-institution-anyway, thing.

Well, you kow what? Fuck you. I'm not getting any younger ok? I want someone who is legally obligated to stick around and love me until I die... or until I piss them off enough that they have to divorce me.

You would think that I would have a better chance of being able to legally marry someone, since I'm "bi", (I prefer the term "equal opportunity") But no. I'm also trans. and since I'm trans, there is a bit of an inconsistency regarding what sex the law views me as. One thing I do know is that a marriage between a woman, and someone who was born a woman but is now a man, is still technically a same-sex marriage. However, I can also easily have my drivers license say "M" instead of "F". All I need is a note from a doctor. I can also have my birth certificate changed to say that I was born male to begin with. That, however, will not alter the law which says that a marriage between a woman and an FTM is same-sex. What it *could* do is also make it impossible for me to marry a man.

And this, my friends, is where identity politics falls flat on its face. I can't get married, because some dumbfucks in legislation and idiot voters haven't even bothered to consider how goddamn irrelevant gender is when it comes to marriage, anyway. OMG, you married someone of the same sex, so you're gay, and you married someone of the opposite sex, so you're straight. So what does this mean when I tromp into city hall with either a man or a woman in tow, and demand to be married. Am I both a dyke with a chick and a faggot with a dude? Regardless of either, it's nobody's damn business anyway. And if there was no idea or belief that there is any difference between a "gay" and "straight" marriage, or (dare I say) a "gay" and "straight" ANYTHING, I might actually be able to call someone my wife or husband.

If the voters and legislature in this country can't even come to an agreement on whether or not it's ok for certain people to marry based on their gender preference, AND WHY THIS SHOULD EVEN BE AN ISSUE OR WHY ANYONE SHOULD EVEN CARE. I have little faith that they would even be able to wrap their raisin-sized brains around what the fuck *I'm* supposed to be and whether or not I'm even allowed to betrothe something that is human.

So what's the latest on the marriages performed in SF? Are they void?

Raisin brain is right. Prop 8 is clear evidence we're barely evolved. How is this not discrimination?

The gang - the government - no difference. It makes me 1%

Castle,
You are awesome. Seriously. I agree 100%.

There was a case in TX years back where a trans married a same sex person.  You can find the article in The Texas Observer http://www.texasobserver.org/article.php?aid=1816 (http://www.texasobserver.org/article.php?aid=1816). It is my favorite liberal news magazine.

At least one of the folks that ultimately brought us Provo Canyon School is indirectly behind all this. One of the founders, forget which one, was involved with those experiments on gays at Brigham Young University where they tried to make them go straight by way of all sorts of coercive and inhumane means (including electric shock)... There were quite a number of suicides as a result of this sick endeavor. "The Values Institute," was it? I don't have time to go looking for it now, but the most righteous of the Mormons are very vehemently against gay marriage...

To me, the whole thing is an issue of sexism. If the state didn't truly see difference between gender, if the state truly saw and treated both sexes as equal, it would not be able to tell the difference between a same sex or different sex marriage. The fact that the distinction is made at all says a lot about how far the country has yet to come on this issue.

That msnbc video clip brought up an interesting point....  Following a U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1967, mixed-race couples were permitted to marry.

shit, that was basically yesterday.

How about some affirmative action for miscegenation and what ever 'ation' it is for same sex marriages?

This is just so friggin ridiculous!!  I got into an argument with an attorney (staunch Rep./Soc. Conserv.).  My mother is his secretary and we work in the same building and I was over at their office showing her my vacation pictures.   "Sam" noticed that I had gone to Key West for Fantasy Fest (had a fucking BLAST!!!!) and started off on yet another of his rants about how gay marriage will destroy "traditional" marriage.  I had had enough.  I've known this man for 30 years and for the most part we've had fairly respectful sparring sessions about politics, but he's really off the rails about "teh gheys" and I've explained to him that I have family that is gay and very close friends that are and that I really hated how he spoke of them and to please not do so in front of me.  Whoo, runon sentence.

Anyway, for some reason it really got under my skin so I went off.  I told him that it wasn't "the gays" fault that he was so fucking insecure with his own sexuality or marriage that the fact that two guys marrying in California was going to either turn him gay or make him get a divorce.  I point blank asked him "Sam, as long as no strange men are randomly trying to stick their dicks in your ass, what the fuck do you care what they do with their own lives?"  Mom ran out of the room (she hates confrontation) and Sam didn't know what to say.  I was still seething when I got back to my office so I did a GIS for "gay porn", copy/pastaed some of the most offensive I could find and sent him an email.

Yeah, probably not the wisest or most mature response but I was pissed and I doubt he'll make those remarks in my presence anymore.

Anne,
Thank you for doing what you did. Living in TX, I hear that kind of shit all the time. My life is endless stickers that say "W" or "Family...". During this election I heard so much nonsense. If you try to argue with these guys they shout over you.  A person who was one of my closest friends and I really got into it. It has become a really sticky situation with him. It is as if it is nice that you are a lesbian, but the Bible says....

The Bible Belt is one tough place to exist. The East Coast was an easier existence, and I want to move back there. I have had enough of conservatives!  iamartsy

My mother, who is supposed to me more on the left-leaning moderate side, basically said to me "What do you need to get married for anyway?" and I said "What do you mean? Why shouldn't I be able to marry?" She said "Marriage is for procreation." and I said "Then why did you marry my stepfather? You were done having kids by that point." I can't remember what her answer was, but it was evasive, which is why I probably don't remember it. Essentially she didn't answer my question.

Those aren't her politics.  She voted against it.  She was just freaked that I spoke to her boss that way.

You speak as if you know much about my mother, but from that comment you obviously don't.

California to investigate Mormon aid to Prop 8 (http://http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081125/ap_on_re_us/gay_marriage_mormons_1;_ylt=AqiTfIg9B7wAQPLjWQnfSC3LLJ94)
Mon Nov 24, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO – California officials will investigate whether the Mormon church accurately described its role in a campaign to ban gay marriage in the state.

The California Fair Political Practices Commission said Monday that a complaint by a gay rights group merits further inquiry.

Executive director Roman Porter says the decision does not mean any wrongdoing has been determined.

Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, accuses the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of failing to report the value of work it did to support Proposition 8.

A representative from the Salt Lake City-based church could not be reached for comment.

How is it that 2 people of the same gender getting married is considered a threat to the sanctity of marriage

when regular people (god approved) get married 4, 5 , 6 times?

Larry King  - 7 marriages
Danielle steele - 5 marriages  (sent her son to Cascade)
Jerry Lewis - 6 marriages
Elizabeth Taylor - 7 marriages

That's 25 divorces from 4 people. Boy oh boy those lawyers probably love every second of it.

http://www.seniorsforliving.com/content ... ties-/131/ (http://www.seniorsforliving.com/content/article/top-10-most-divorced-celebrities-/131/)

Are we really going to legislate the permissible configurations and permitted quantities of beeftubes and beeftunnels during a nut session?

Don't we have anything better to do?

I'm simply amazed with the load of shite the Government, Church and media feed us everyday.

I just find it ironic that this whole thing was spearheaded by a demographic who has the most fucked up marriage customs, ever. According to them, it's okay to be married to twelve people at once and fuck your daughters to "initiate them into womanhood."

They say they condemn that stuff now, which explains perfectly why there are so many of them who still do it.

word.

and it's an incredibly thin and disguised veil.

These fucking mormons. If the white house gave them the nod and said, " Hey, Utah is your crazy fucking mormon state - go hog fucking wild. On a federal level we will never fuck with you again" .... I'd be willing to bet the farm a majority of these mormons would revert to their polygamist, magical thinking ways. Magical underwear, untraceable golden plates......blah blah blah... How is this not cartoons on acid?  Mormons think christians are going to hell?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Banner_of_Heaven (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Banner_of_Heaven)

And for those mormons who don't buy into that gimmick..........well Lon woodbury has his work cut out for him. A program to deal with ex-real modern day mormons would have to be available.

"i was previously duped, I'm desperate, and I need a program to deal with my previous program"

Pardon my ignorance, but when exactly did they start condemning this? I know that they have, but I ask...since every single Mormon woman I've ever physically met has lots of sisters who do not look anything at all like her (i.e., probably from different mothers). Disclosure: I haven't met all that many, but the probable differing genetics has been most pronounced in each case.

Just curious as to how much of this stuff continues to this day in certain communities (even seemingly mainstream ones), and is tacitly overlooked.

It's tolerated in Utah. I remember driving around and a local saltlakian pointed out the compounds as we drove by them. They're not on every block but they are alive an well.

The state only cracks down on them when the conditions get bad and the state can end up with a black eye for not dealing with it.

It's not really the polygamist compounds we should worry about. The concern is  the mainstream mormons with lots of cash that lobby the shit out of their agenda.
