STRIPE sent me this article a couple months back and asked me to get it up for all to read.  This was published in 1974 in the Orlando newpaper and includes pictures of the St Pete and Miami seed.

Stripe, here it is and sorry for the delay.

Thanks to Ginger for HAND transcribing the entire article and scanning the pics and providing the links.

The Seed Discussion Forum / earning the right to walk by yourself
« on: January 29, 2005, 03:15:00 PM »
When I was in the seed, you were escorted around as a newcomer by an oldcomer that was physically larger than you. If you were a boy, another boy put his arm around your shoulder and squeezed you in. The more compliant you were, the less hard the squeeze. If you were a misbehavior, the other kid would be real large and the grip real tight. Girls held the hands of newcomer girls.

In later years, the newer seed rippoff programs like Straight started Holding kids by the back of the belt, obstensably to get around the sexual ennuendo of girls holding hands and boys with arms around each other.  This became known as "beltlooping" the newcomer. The method was different but the intention and result was the same.

My question...When did the seed stop this practice, if ever?

We need some new ex seed people here. I know some are watching and not posting. Please post here.

Existing people, please everyone think of at least one person you know that used to be in the seed and ask them to please post here.

This site has become something I think we should all be proud of, something I wasn't sure would be this successfull.  Imagine... A forum where people can discuss their experiences and opinions about the seed with people that accept their opinions and offer counter arguments

...if someone had suggested 30 years ago that one day this would exist...I woulda called "bullshit" on em!

The Seed used to strip search people and occasionally find drugs on them. These drugs would be placed in a location and the people were told if they ran, they would turn the drugs over to the police.

Now, we know this practice is illegal, holding illegal drugs over one's head in order to force them to do something or behave in a certain way. In fact there is a legal term for it...extorsion.

Another aspect of the illegality of this practice is that you cannot go to the police and say, "I found this marijuana on John Smith" and then have John Smith arrested.  However, with the Chief of police, the judges and the prosecuting attorney of Pinellas county all having Kids in the program, times were tough for individual liberties.

FUNNY SEED STORIES...Please post them here.

Okay, I think I have one.

In the early 70s open meeting was every monday and friday. With approx 700 kids and group and more than double the number of observers and parents, it was an event likened to a penecostal tent revival in the press.

Part of the dog and pony show was that when someone "earned" the right to go home, it was a secret until someone passed him/her the mike, he would exclaim into the mike "mom, dad...IM COMMING HOME!" and the place would go crazy applauding, old ladies would cry, people would hug each other. It was really a site to see.

My first open meeting the mike was passed to a guy on the front row and he made the proclamation with much emotion "MOM, DAD...IMMM COMMMINNNG HOMMME" real sincere like. His parents were gleee filled, the entire place burst into applause...only it wasn't true and the staff wildly tried to get the place under control and came down on him hard the next day.  The next open meeting, the same...with the staff wildly waving off the applause and shooting him dirty looks.  This went on every open meeting and people would get snookered every time.

Hysterical....

The seed developed and assigned its own meaning to phrases. I can't remember them all, but Lets see if we can list them.

1) Getting into your head.

This meant stop thinking. If anyone was sitting silently not paying attention, or thinking to themselves or staring off, they were "getting into their head" and this must stop immediately.

2) get your head out of the gutter.
this meant stop having sexual thoughts.

3) I love you.
Used as a simple greeting by all seedlings and in group to salute those done speaking.

4) "You know" and "its like" and "I don't know".

These had no special meaning but were before during and after almost every sentence, at least in the early 70s. Any  linquist forced to listen to this butchery of the english language  would have gotten nauseus.

example;

"I don't know, you know its like I feel strong, you know. Its like everything has changed.  I don't know, its like ive gotten so strong these past three months. Its like I am a new person, You know. Before I came here, I dont know, it was like I was lost. Now I have so many friends, and its like my olddruggie friends, I don't know, they don't understand and you know, its funny because Its like  am stronger and better than they will ever be.  I don't know, Its like I feel so happy, you know. Since I came to The Seed its like a whole new world, you know. I don't know, but  love you guys.

anyone else remember the phraseology?

The Seed Discussion Forum / Bingo!

This play, transfered into an animation, was made by a troop of actors connected to Elan. Elan is a synanon based residential treatment facility with many similarities of modality to the seed.

This is of poor quality but high quality versions do exist.

Enjoy....and please comment.

btw, this is the connection to my Clown face Aviator.

The Seed Discussion Forum / Clarification
« on: September 28, 2004, 10:42:00 AM »
Their seems to be some confusion about the purpose of The Seed Discussion Forum, so I thought it time to clear this up.

I moderate the SDF with the following comment. For 30 years now, there has been no place for people that attended the Seed to come and discuss what happened to them. Nada, Ziltch.  The only avenue of venting has been with people who don't understand, weren't there or that take an extreme stand (pro or con).  The Seed discussion forum exists FOR US ALL to post our comments and experiences, to debate the issues, to come to terms with what happened, to bitch about or praise our time there, to defend or to indict the Seed as a treatment model.

To faciliate that vision of this discussion forum I ask that we leave personal attacks out. That is the only rule.

We can discuss until the cows come in but if people, supporters and detractors alike, are shouted down or personally attacked for their comments, then we do not have a forum, we have a  soap box. That is not my intent.

So please, keep this in mind when posting here. If you enjoy trolling or attacking, there are plenty of other forums right here on Fornits that will let you do so. If you want to talk, meet up with old friends, work out some issues or learn how others felt about the Seed, this is the place.

If would take a lot for me to ban a poster. It has never happened yet and likely never will. Also, I have only once or twice deleted posts when they got real  personal. I will defend each and every persons right to express their experiences and thoughts here and also defend persons against personal attacks.

You all know my opinion. I respect each and every one of yours even when we disagree.

The Seed Discussion Forum / Shiney Happy people
« on: September 17, 2004, 10:47:00 AM »
I remember while in college I used to spend hours on campus chatting the Moonies  and also the hari krisnas who set up tables on the university of Florida, and three doors down from me was a house the moonies rented. I was fascinated with the some of the things they did and the singing coming out of the house and their recruiting techniques. It all rang a personal note and got me thinking about my own private experiences.

One thing that really struck me was when you asked them how they were doing they always answered "Great!" with a big smile and how that was so reminiscent of my own experience in the seed.

Then I got to thinking about how emotionally draining it was to always have to continue to not only have the appearance of feeling "great!" but to actually force my mind to go there, to not think about anything negative about my situation and how if I didn't feel "great" I would have to explain myself to and be confronted by the group. That not feeling "great" was even a cause that could get your program started over, cause you to lose your family and the freedoms you had gained.

Recently I spoke to a real scientologist in the airport (not a celebrity scientologist) and he told me he "felt great!"

The techniques of cultic mind control are often very subtle things that go unnoticed by those around you and even  by yourself.

Right now   I do not feel "great".

Thank goodness.

The Seed Discussion Forum / the higher power...or the making of a cult.
« on: September 13, 2004, 12:30:00 AM »
The premise of all 12 step programs is to admit you are powerless and surrender to god. This is arguably relatively  harmless in a VOLUNTARY setting. However, the AA dogma has been used to set up personality cult after cult since the 30s. Why is this such an easy path to cultism? What tools of AA taken out of a voluntary setting lead to coersive mind control?

This is my take...

1) admit you are powerless. This is the first step to surrendering your will, And you are powerless because they have reduced you to being so...so all you need do is state the obvious.

2) surrender to god. This is where it gets real tricky and dangerous when you mix this cultic dogma with coersion and imprisonment. We are told to choose our god, but we all know it was the group/and or Art Barker. Real religion was scoffed at and laughed at in the seed.

Then  Convince the inductees they are worthless, unlikable, and make them an object of ridicule  in their current mental mind set. Set up an idol and make hero worship mandatory on the path to salvation. Invent some language or change the meaning of existing language to have special meaning within the group. Give instant conditional love and community for compliance. Restrict freedom, reading and contact with the outside world and create and us and them mentality. Prevent the inductees from speaking with each other.  Reduce your most personal private moments such as urinating and defecating to a priviledge and keep a written record to remind the inductee you control everything. Introduce language and sayings that have supposed special power and healing qualities. Set up a two tier system where compliant ones get special treatment and then Offer the inductee a way to acheive this level by surrendering his personality, individuality and free will to the group.. thereby regaining  humanity and affection and basic human needs such as privacy and respect.

Mix with some sleep deprivation, fear, public confessionals, humiliation, food deprivation, rules against thinking and talking, keep the fear of public confrontation at any moment in the inductees thoughts and throw in coersion by your family and "peers".

Here you have the magic formula of the seed and other cults.

in a nutshell....

Generation Kill by Evan Wright.

Evan wright, former seedling, was imbedded with the marine recon unit that led the charge into Iraq.

It is a harrowing portrayal of war and an honest reporting of what really goes on over there.

GET THIS BOOK.

Just watch Dr. Phil give away a residential admission to a kid with bad behavior (and really idiotic ineffective parents).

Anyone any experience here?  It seems their formula is a bit different from looking at the website..
