The Troubled Teen Industry / MTV Juvies

Every kid should go through an experience like Juvies. Instead of getting summers off from school, many kids, if not all, would benefit from a brief stay (2-6 weeks) in a correctional facility with therapy and medications to help sort things out and do a self inventory. Spare the rod, spoil the child. If parents aren't willing to do something, the schools need to get involved. Juvies provides an excellent model, IMHO.

I watched last night, only the second half.  One boy was in there for fighting.  In this day and time you can't bully other kids.  This boy got into a fight while locked up also, thus a 24 hour lock down for him.  Another boy was caught smoking pot while driving (ran a stop sign).  Again, illegal.  So as an average upper middle class parent, this is the normal stuff that we parents start freaking out about.  Your kid starts fighting all the time.  This boy just didn't have one fight that landed him locked up.  A juvi running a stop sign while a joint is going in the car.  Both, they needed consequences.  They got it.  They both got out when they seen the Judge.  I think a good lesson learned, what those boys do with that lesson will be entirely up to them.

As a parent watching this show for the first time last night, I thought it was very educational.  They weren't bad kids in there, but they were suffering a consequence for something done wrong.  I wish more children landed in front of a judge/juvie instead of parents (especially frightened, mislead, worried) becoming the judge, jury and deciding the sentence.  I guess that's why we have laws in place.  I know that I thought I was doing the right thing by sending my child to a christian academy (aka torture/abusive place).  I was so afraid of the judicial system I was trying to save him.  In the end I should have stayed out of it and if he continued his ways he would have wound up in Juvi.  In front of a Judge to decide his fate.

Yet, if you google any of the above names all the websites (including taking new victims NOW) are still there.  They are lead to the same place, same owner (Fountain).  Even the same pictures are used over and over on all the websites.  They are scammers.  If you point blank ask them about the different names you never get a straight story.

Seymour man gets $900k in abuse claim
Connecticut Post (Bridgeport, CT)

Author: MATTHEW HIGBEE [email protected]

SEYMOUR - A town man sentenced to 20 years in a psychiatric hospital
for trying to kill his parents by burning down their house has won a
$900,000 judgement against a southern military academy for troubled
teenagers that he said tortured him. Joseph Gabriel Paolillo and his
father, Joseph Peter Paolillo, won the judgement Monday against the
Bethel Boys Academy, of Lucedale, Miss., in Mississippi federal court.
The elder Paolillo was awarded $59,709 in damages.
Routine beatings and mental abuse from a drill instructor with a pit
bull trained to bite in the crotch were alleged by the younger
Paolillo, who was 17 when he went to Bethel in 1998.

"They beat him viscously," his father said. "I feel relieved that some
satisfaction was given to my son, so he can seek professional
treatment and counseling."

Testifying from Whiting Forensic Institute in Middletown, the
25-year-old Paolillo described treatment at Bethel such as being made
to eat breakfast in 45 seconds and then roll around on the ground
until throwing up. A drill instructor, William Knotts, would sic a bit
bull on cadets given a head start to run across a field, Paolillo
testified. "I had bite marks on my groin," Paolillo said in his
testimony. "That's basically where the dog generally bit."

Paolillo was sent to Whiting after breaking into his parent's
residence on Julie Drive in Seymour on Dec. 16, 2003, with a 5-gallon
can of gasoline and setting the dining room floor afire.

Paolillo's attorney, George Yoder, said collecting on the judgement
would be difficult because the Bethel Academy has since closed and
apparently never had insurance.

I had placed my son at Bethel Boys Academy (Eagle Point Christian Academy and now known as Respect Camp).  I simply showed up unannounced and asked for my son.  The owner's tried to talk my husband out of it "GOD lead you to us".  "Your son hasn't changed yet".  blah blah blah.
Oh, and since we gave them no warning my son had been brutally beaten, starved, tortured, dehydrated.  We had paid with a $25,000 cashier's check but put a stop payment on it.  We got all our money back and still filed a lawsuit against those corrupt bastards.  Court date (in Federal Court) has now been postponed until August, 2006 due to Hurricane Katrina.

It's going to take something bigger than Katrina to stop the devil himself.  They weren't blown away.  Sorry to say I honestly had hoped it would kill the Fountain's.  At least they couldn't hurt anyone else.
I do believe they had to evacuate.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Questionnaire for Survivors of Programs
« on: September 06, 2005, 12:45:00 AM »
I will answer this for my son.  He was abused and tortured at Bethel Boys academy aka Eagle Point Christian Academy (which is now WWASP affiliated)

1. Which program did you attend?
Bethel Boys Academy, Lucedale, MS.

2. How long were you in the program?
 3 1/2 days

3. Why were you sent there?
My parents felt I was heading down the wrong path, tried pot, started hanging with what they considered the wrong crowd, grades were going steadily down.

4. Did you feel your parents were justified in sending you away?
Yes, I was willing to go.  They discussed with me where I was going, whom they had talked to, what help I would receive.  My Dad also drove me down there and stated we would tour the place together and make a decision.

5. How did you get there? Escort service pick you up in the middle of the night, or did you go willingly.
See answer above

6. If you went willingly, do you feel the program was misrepresented to you? If so, how?
Within 10 minutes of my Dad driving off of the compound I thought I was being taken to my bunk.  Instead I was taken to an empty barracks where four grown men (i.e. drill instructors) were waiting for me.  They beat me for a half hour.  Shaved my head and deliberately sliced my head up with a razor - which would happen every two days.  More deliberate cuts all over your head.  I was regularly beaten, torture performed on me and others for no reason.  Starved, deprived of sleep, water and the right to go to the bathroom.

7. Education: Did you get a good education while you were in the program?
No school at all.  Most didn't get to attend school.  Spent our days performing labor for the Fountain family.

Did you have teachers who gave lectures or was it all self teaching?
The kids that did get to go only did for an hour or two a day.  It was all self teaching out of elementary school workbooks.

Did you receive a high school diploma, or were you able to finish and get a diploma on time? Do you feel the education was adequate and helped you move on to college?
I don't believe anyone leaves that hell hole with any kind of education whatsoever.

8. How was the food? And the cleanliness of the place?
What little we did get to eat was horrible.  You were constantly hungry.  One small dixie cup of water was all you got to drink.  No breakfeast for the few days I was there.  Many kids come out of there severely dehydrated.  A few have needed hospitalization.  You can't give a kid 500 calories a day, force them to exert 5500 calories a day and not walk away unharmed.  According to the Attorney General's office plenty of kids come out of there with renal failure.  We all know what causes that.  Extreme dehydration on top of being slugged repeatedly in the kidneys.

9. Were you abused? If so, how? How many times? By whom?
YES, beaten plenty of times by the drill instructors.  One of the tortures they performed on me was the drill instructor informed the older students to hold me down.  They forced my mouth open and filled it full of toothpaste.  While they held me down the drill instructor stood over me and slowly filled my nostrils with water.  I thought I was going to die.  I couldn't breath.  I also witnessed constant beatings.  When the drill instructors started unscrewing the video camera lense you knew someone was going to be beaten.  It was worse watching someone else be beaten and to hear their screams, knowing you could do nothing to help them.

10. Did you witness others being abused? If so, what form of abuse and how often?
See above question.  It was an all day occurance. I watched a kid get slugged in the face so hard he flew against the wall behind him.  He curled up into a ball just sobbing.  His face was still black and blue when the state came in and removed him and 12 other victims.

11. Overall, was your experience positive or negative?
NEGATIVE, my family honestly didn't know these types of places even existed.  Not in the U.S.

12. If it was positive, please summarize your experience.

13. If it was negative, please summarize your experience.
My Mom and Dad have gotten together with other victims from that place and we have filed our first lawsuit.  It has 19 plaintiffs on it.  We also filed in Federal Court to get out of the corrupt George County where this place is located.  There are more lawsuits coming.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Problem with this forum

"This is an important topic about WWASP being called "boarding schools". I am one of those parents. I was looking for a boarding school to offer my teen a way to get out of his laziness, be in a more progressive educational situation, experience another country and it's culture. It's not a sin to think you are offering your child an opportunity. He was a teen that was not in trouble>>>

I am also one of those parents that sent her child off for "help".  But, I didn't do my real good homework until my son was already at Eagle Point Christian Academy, Lucedale, MS.  It is owned and operated by the Fountain family.  I began searching the internet and found nothing but horror stories surrounding that place.  That was all it took for me to know that we weren't taking any chances and rescued my son 3 1/2 days later.

Today, the internet is full of stories surrounding each place.  Victims pouring their hearts out in hopes of saving even one child.  But here come the ignorant parents "well, it has changed, they don't abuse them anymore".

Believe it or not, but I get e-mails all the time from parents who have still placed their child at this hell hole.  They have done internet searches and read all the victim's testimonies.  Yet, still believe it is a good place for their kid.  Why take a chance?  I just don't understand it.

If a doctor was killing and making his patients sick (which the victims began blasting him on the internet)....would you still be willing to risk your health at that particular doctor's office?  I think that says it all right there.  Of course you wouldn't.

I noticed on the P.U.R.E. website that all the WWASP negative stuff is gone.  Did Sue take all that down because of the lawsuit?  I thought she won.

  Don't know who made up either one of those sites but wanted to say THANKS!!!!  One more way to expose the corrupt underworld of legalized child abuse.  Oh, and it didn't hurt to give our lawyer, Oscar Stilley some credit for all the hardwork this man has put into shutting these Hell Holes down.  He is a true Christian Attorney.

Thayer Learning Center / My Son At Thayer
« on: April 22, 2005, 04:27:00 PM »
Honest question, if your son was soooo bad, completely defiant against all adult authority, and next step was prison.  How did Thayer help your son without ever beating or torturing him?  He seen others beaten so he knew it could happen to him?  What made your son get up out of that bed every morning at the crack of dawn to do exercises for a few hours?  A drill instructor screaming in his face?  Why do I doubt that.
In the summer of 2003 the State of Miss. raided Bethel Boys Academy and removed 13 "visibly" abused boys.  These boys did NOT get a choice whether they wanted to leave or not.  Other boys who were being abused wanted to leave, but since there were no current visible signs - no go.  The state takes these boys into custody and their parents are called.  Immediately all the parents come rushing down to Miss.  The boys are to remain in custody until the following Tuesday, when they will testify in George County Youth Court.  One Dad is furious that his son was removed from Bethel.  Now mind you, his son was strangled by a drill instructor and his neck reflects just that (horrible bruising).  No matter, his Dad is mad, his Dad wanted him at Bethel because he needed "help".  His Dad was angry that he had to miss work to get his son and demanded that the state release his child immediately.  I talk to this Dad enroute home with his son (back to the state they live in).  This Dad states his son wasn't really abused and his son hasn't said much.  Hmmmmmm, wonder why?  Move ahead a month and the boy is now living with his Mom.  Dad just wants him sent to another torture chamber.  This boy does have a long list of abuse and torture that he suffered at Bethel Boys Academy.
Could this Dad be the same kind of Dad you are?

He left for Thayer at 6:00 am on morning. The police came for him at 2:00 pm that afternoon. I explained that he was out of state and that I would not tell them where. The left empty handed and not happy to have missed him.

My son's opinion (not mine, his) is that he would be dead by now if not for Thayer.

Again, my context is most likely very different than yours. So my question is, what would you have done?>>>

The biggest question remains?  Why did you become the Judge, Jury and decide the sentence?  Was there something wrong with letting your son suffer the consequences of his actions?  He was carrying a gun around and the police/justice was planning on holding him accountable.  You, Foolish Parent instead paid enormous amounts of money to have him beaten, tortured and enslaved in a cult.  A place that would later take a child's life.

I do not for one minute believe that these parents are hapless victims, unaware of what they are doing. They send their children away, not to be helped, but rather to be abused in a manner that they would get arrested for doing themselves. None of these parents are stupid, most of them are highly educated and know fully well what they are doing. Let's be realistic, people from the barrio can't afford to abuse their children by proxy. These parents should be held accountable for what they have subjected their children to. >>>

I am hear to tell you that you are WRONG.  Not all parents know about this underworld of legalized child abuse/cult homes.  In my small, uppder middle class world I truly didn't know something like this could even exist.  Once I did, I rescued my son immediately and have since filed a lawsuit.  We, as parents tried all the legal avenues with the State of Miss. justice system, but the corruption runs to deep.  These places need to be shut down to save those poor kids, but also for the parents who honestly don't know these kinds of places existed.

  Bethel Girls Academy, Petal, MS. is listed on the back of the March, 2005 edition.  Yet not in the April, 2005 edition.  No mention that it was closed down for abusing and torturing those poor kids.  Just disappeared from the advertising.  Oh brother.
