The tricky thing about Kay's comment is that it is not equivalent to the cost of a G35 Infinity.

That price is PER YEAR. And how many years?

Anyone know the percentages... X% there a year, two years, three years, longer?

I know it varies, and probably based on the parents ability to pay, but it would be interesting to know."

he forgot to add in the post-treatment costs. for example, exit counseling once the kid and parents figure out what really happened. or, if no one figures it out, or the exit counseling doesn't help, figure in court costs for legal troubles, years of poverty because the kid can't deal socially so they don't keep jobs, homelessness from paranoia, the cost of legal or illegal medications to treat the intense inner persecution and pain experienced by many victims of brainwashing techniques, etc.

i don't have an answer for you. but think about it like this. we were severely consored in Straight. myself i do not like being censored anymore. for whatever artistic or personal or humorous reason, someone wanted to start this thread. i don't know, you could complain it isn't serious or whatever, but these are my people here, speaking, and nobody gonna shut them up. some of us are tired, too, of all the stigma around drugs and ourselves. like, if i'm talking to people about being in a drug rehab when i was a teenager that was abusive and a cult, and i know their mind is stuck on "drug rehab... what did she do, what is she on now?"

i don't know, some of us kind of guess who is posting these threads, and then it makes us think how to respond, and what our response is really about, like our own prejudices about drugs and drug users, all the inseparable morality that gets in there. i want the creative right to my life back. if someone finds their creative life in freebasing coke or shooting smack, maybe that is just their thing.

for my closing argument, i would like to say go down to the shopping mall or the fancy beachfront or whatever and watch homo sapiens in a pathetic state of ruin. an open discussion about freebasing cocaine is not the problem.

what happened in there that changed your view on life? also, what was your view on life before you went in, and what is it now?

i would like to refer you to the website of the International Survivors Action Committee: http://http://isaccorp.org/

you can find more information here:
http://http://www.heal-online.org/childtortureusa.htm#flor9

there is a whole lot of information out there. as for how to stop them? who knows. Straight started up in 1976, was investigated, had ugly court cases, was supposedly shut down in the early 90s, but several institutions are Straight copy-cat programs -- Kids Helping Kids in Ohio is in the very same building where Straight was -- and they keep doing the very same thing to teenagers that fucked the lot of us in the head a long time ago.

uhm, i thought Deborah was pointing out that the kid was on four or five medications and still they were supposedly in need of a wilderness camp or whatever. irregardless, i can't help thinking maybe the kid is being medicated and messed with and the real problem is that the kid has had a rough time of it and needs some good old fashioned decent people to take him in. ain't no problems big enough that having the government in control of your life can't make it worse. four or five medications and a boot camp for a ward of the state. talk about a rough life.

but wait, i have a little Cat Stevens tune to play for you!

thank you! i like what you wrote because you can see so much.

after i was in Straight, i saw a list of clients' rights according to state law. privacy of mail and personal writing is a legal right. i don't understand this separation of rights between minors and adults. it seems like minors have no rights at all!

i wish that rights didn't even have to be set down in law, that people just treated kids and each other right. [ This Message was edited by: ;) on 2005-06-08 14:47 ]

I take all responsibality for all I said on Montel.

They were nice and respectful and did all they could to make me comfortable. The people at Montel are truly concerned about their guests. They gave me a chance to tell what happened to me in the hell called Straight.

I wouldn't have been a wreck in the first place if STRAIGHT had not tried to destroy my mind.

So do not take my responce out of contex.

I did Montel b/c I believed that there would be a senator or state rep. Or some one who, has the ability to stop this from happening to another person watcing and that perhaps a parent might think twice before sending his/her kid to a similar place.

THANK YOU MR WILLIAMS FOR LETTING ME SPEAK OOUT TRUTHFULY ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE.

I also want to let you know that the producers of the show called me after a few times to see if I was ok. They also offered me the chance to seek therapy, which they offered to pay for. I declined.

"

thanks for answering my question, & for figuring out what it was in the first place! i got tongue-tied!
