Why is Kansas an attraction to these program owners?
Licensing standards, maybe?

Regs for RTCs

Very lame regulations. Need to be updated.
I couldn't find a facilities look up or reports on inspections of licensed facilities. If anyone finds either, please post a link.

Brat Camp / Update from UK

Brat Camp, Channel 4

IT beggars belief that there is the need for programmes like C4's Brat Camp.

Last night's Mums And Daughters' episode was an embarrassment to the people of our country if this is what we have to show for ourselves as a representation of Brits abroad. And females, at that.

Hippy mum Helen and angry, drug-using 14-year-old Chloe were this week's pair who were dropped into the Arizona desert for some intense wilderness therapy.

A gruelling regimen of survival training was intended to push them to their limits, encouraging them to work together and consider why their relationship has become so damaged. These programmes annoy me for so many reasons.

I do not see why they have to go to another country to be shown the error of their ways.

They will have only embarrassed us as a nation while wasting a load of cash, which could have been donated to someone who really needs it, on a useless soul-saerching journey.

Why should this sort of horrible behaviour be given any air time?

All the shouting and aggro is not my idea of entertainment.

I must admit, I did quite enjoy watching this brat put through her paces in one of the toughest environments in the world.

But I would bet my house on her being back to her terrible self by the time they get home and the cameras are switched off.

Whether she personally wrote them or someone else did on her behalf, matters not because the fact is each of those disgraceful blogs have been traced back to HER google blogger profile, no one elses.

No doubt she wrote them. She was very careful with the wording, no mention of her personal issues with the people. But, screwed up on the "Buzzkill or MadHatter" blog and wrote:

Oh this is comical - Bock all but sold out Karen a few years back...But recently have joined forces to try to destroy me? Why? Got me - except is seems Pinky is leading this since her "profits" were killed. Just my opinion.

Unless Buzz and Carey "joined forces to try to destroy" someone else.

Aspen Education Group / Staff Replacements at Aspen

This is why many are not convinced that there are any systemic problems with abuse in the industry.  The schools are staffed with people who are dedicating their careers and lives to helping children, whether they are degreed or are in the process of getting their degree.  Many staff members move on after a few years to go back to school to further their education, private practice, further training and if they had witnessed any abuse or systemic problems these would have been reported.

Highly unlikely. Ex staff don't report what they see. They aren't willing to be blackballed if they wish to continue working in the Industry/MH field. Word travels. They also want to avoid slap suits and loss of severence pay, etc.
Dedicated to helping children is a very relative term.  Randal Hinton and too many others to mention, consider abuse to be help/treatment. One person sees caning as abuse, another sees it as appropriate discipline.
The absolute truth is that parents can't determine a strangers values in an interview or visit. That's why, if they choose to place their kids, they shouldn't allow contact to be severed under any circumstances. Their child is the only person who can report what goes on behind closed doors.

21
Those suggestions are insufficient.
Parents need to ask very pointed questions.

Ask to see credentials then confirm they are legitimate.
Check with the state licensing agency to confirm that they are licensed and monitored. Ask if any complaints have been filed or if they have been cited for violations of regulations.
Any accidents, physical/sexual assaults, deaths?
Question blanket policies such as severing contact between parent and child for any length of time- totally unnecessary with ethical, evidence-based therapy.
Ask for a copy of the contract, policies, and parent manual. Have them reviewed by an attorney and psychologists.
Talk to parents on Fornits and other sites about their actual experience.
Talk to survivors about the same.
Research Synanon, est/Lifespring, CEDU method and determine if you are willing to allow your child to be exposed to 'experimental' treatment.
Do not take what's stated on the website or what they tell you at face value. For your child's sake, one must do due diligence.
That's for starters.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Re: Randall Hinton Sentenced

The victims on the convictions, both boys, were attending the private, co-ed school for troubled youth during the past year. One boy sustained a bloody nose, while the other experienced vomiting while being detained in Hinton's office.

That's pretty lame depiction of the testimonies.

Gillick also said Hinton has made it clear he never wants to work with troubled children again and has a job due to start Friday in Cortez as the manager of an automotive company.

Will he be a silent partner?  Wonder if the abuse of his own kids was brought up. Lacking skill, he resorts to bullying.

Quote
Hinton told the judge only that, "It's been very educational," just before he was sentenced.

You mean, the thought of going to jail scared the shit out me. A second conviction might get him long-term jail time.

23
Hinton sentenced to 25 days in jail and 1 year probation.
Claims he "never want to work with troubled kids again."

In all fairness, it is not all the admins that do this.  One or maybe 2 admins are giving the rest of them a bad name.
Besides the problems I have had with Deborah none of the other Admins alter or delete other peoples posts or revel their private messages to the public forum (that I am aware of).  The one time TSW had a good time and changed my avatar and my moniker to Nambla (scarry how he knows these organizations) Ha,Ha,Ha… the difference , in my opinion, is it wasn’t done to obstruct another persons ideas or discussion.

WHO:  TSW admitted that he deleted some of your posts.
TSW admitted that he posted Private Messages to the public forum here on Fornits.
If you find it acceptable that TSW, or anyone else could change your avatar and thinks its funny to be associated with Nambla; then laugh away Ha ha ha.
But, why excuse one Admin for the same exact thing you appear to be so enraged at Deborah about?  She claims she did not delete, or change your posts.
Do you think posting pages and pages of the same accusation is going to make her "fess up?"  Do you think repeating idle, vicious, possibly untrue gossip about other's views of her parenting skills is going to affect Deborah's credibility?
Why can't you extend the same gracious, forgiving, and even humorous "oh everyone makes ADMIN Mistakes" attitude towards Deborah that you extend towards TSW and PSY?  You seem to dismiss their actions, even adding your HA HA HA.

Thanks, but I don't want or need his forgiveness.
What I want is for him to produce the PM in which he alleges to have "warned" me to stop altering/deleting his posts. Then give Ginger permission to confirm if it exists or not.
No ethical violation. If such a PM existed it would be mine/ours. He's already divulged publicly what he claims to have said in the PM, so what's the big deal with posting the proof? I'm the only other person involved and I've given my permission.

The big deal is that it doesn't exist. He came back with a vengence because he wrongly assumed that I was responsible for his banning. He zeroed in on me and started with the accusations of deleting his posts.
If he had proof he'd post it.

TSW not only changed the avatars, he said yesterday that he deleted a whole Aspen thread. Were there more? Who else posted in that thread besides Who? Anyone else's research gone with a click? That's why Who doesn't care. He'd be pleased to no end if TSW deleted a dozen threads a day, even if he had posted in them.

This whole thread is tiresome and pointless. Fuck this.

"So don't read it, then" you say.

Thanks in advance, a-hole... I won't.

Who cares about TheWho?

Deb: You're all good. You have nothing to prove to anyone here, especially our little WhoNigger. Don't give him the satisfaction or waste your precious time on this asshole anymore. You know we love you, for all you do.

Some schools can make bad decisions, it’s a good thing Island View encouraged the parents to get a search group going and try to encourage communication and get Emily home.

Where was that reported, Who? (You're the only one who spells her name Emily and Emilie.)
The parents had to be "encouraged" by IV to get a search group going? Pulezzzzz.
Or are they truely so "unengaged and univolved" that they had to be told to search for their daughter?

I think everyone is happy at this point and Emily is getting the help she needs.

And you know this, how?

The Zero Tolerance Nazi Ban Hugging

Oak Park School Bans Hugging
Principal Says "Hug Lines" In Hallways Create Bottlenecks, Make Students Late For Class
by Mike Puccinelli
OAK PARK, Ill. (CBS) ― Schools just say no to bullying and fighting, but hugging? CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli reports that a local middle school wants the embracing to stop.

"Last year we would see maybe as many as 10 students on one side (of the hallway), 10 on the other and then, going in opposite directions, would sort of have a hug line going on and you could see where that would be a problem," said Victoria Sharts, principal of Oak Park's Percy Julian Middle School.

So this year Sharts decided to draw the line on hug lines by banning all hugging among students within the building.

Sharts said, "Hugging is really more appropriate for airports or for family reunions than passing and seeing each other every few minutes in the halls."

When teachers started enforcing the new policy last month all hallways and classrooms in the 860-student school became hug-free zones.

When our cameras rolling during passing period today there was no hugging to be seen.

Sixth grader Isabella Miller disagrees with the crackdown. "I don't think that that's right"

Her father agrees with her. "It seems like a crazy idea to me," Mark Miller said.

The principal says the rampant hugging is creating bottle necks in the hallway and making kids late for class. Furthermore she says although hugs are supposed to be handshakes from the heart some times they don't seem so innocent.

"Too long, too close, and usually between boys and girls," Sharts said.

After school, while safely outside the building, the students seemed determined to show what they think of the policy, one hug at a time.

Sharts said the hug ban is just one element of a comprehensive discipline and anti-bullying plan.   High-fiving in the hallways is also frowned upon.

Two other programs have opened in small Kansas towns by former program operators from Utah.  Kevin Richey is from St. George, Utah.
It is also of interest that these owners also purchased vacant schools off E-Bay from the samerealtor used by Kevin Richey, Dave Rose.
These other programs in Kansa will be discussed under the topic:
