Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Body strip seaches
« on: September 24, 2002, 09:41:00 AM »
Does anyone remember during their incarceration their full body and cavity searches? That was quite shameful, they made me strip bare naked and searched every cavity (I won't get too discusting), but they didn't find a thing and they even searched my ears and my hair (I have long hair). In between my toes and places you wouldn't even think about! Did anyone else go through this too?

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Cost of "drug rehab"
« on: September 12, 2002, 09:49:00 AM »
I read this on the Seed info, and was wondering about Straight. I know that everyone was told a different price (for the families) when they were taken into Straight.
Just wondering how much it was, and if anyone was declined because of the cost factor, and if it costed too much that staff would punish the kids there?

Myself, I know my family spent 500 dollars a week for food. Also, $25,000 for me to be signed up in that hell hole.

If Straight was getting so much money, you would think they would have had better housing and facilities to stay in.. kinda crappy now if you asked me

I went on this website and found the following information quite distubing.. sounds just like another Straight.

This facility is still fully active in Southfield.

The question that was posed to this answer was:
How is a safe, secure, and healthy environment maintained at the center, and at the host home?
In the initial phase of the program, clients are not permitted to be alone at any time. They are assigned an old-comer (big brother/big sister mentor). They are physically escorted around the building. The facility has limited areas and is monitored at all times. In the event a client acts out, our staff are all trained in non-violent restraint measures. In the evenings and weekends our clients continue to live in a structured environment in the host homes. The homes are a safe, healthy, and loving environment for the young people. Host homes are inspected to be sure that they are safe and secure.

Pathway Family Center
Southfield Michigan

I found this to be quite shocking when I read it.. sounds like the same crap that Straight has implemented.

This is found in the frequently asked questions list on

http://www.pfcenter.org

Sounds to me like we have some problems here, this facility is activily up and running.
Also, you might want to read what happens to 1st and 2nd "phase" children in school! Quite disturbing

You will also find the phone number to this facility on this website

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / cop out rumors
« on: March 13, 2002, 09:06:00 AM »
I was in Plymouth MI Straight in 1990 and one of my oldcomers told me in her host home that there was someone who copped out inside a bedroom after lights out, in Cincinnati.
I don't remember what phase she told me she was on, I don't even know how she heard about it.
She said that this person litterally carved into the wall and the structure of that building wasn't stable, she was able to leave that house with all the newcomers she was watching, and just run.
I don't know how true this is.. but this is something she got in trouble for the next day in group, I guess for putting ideas in someones head.

Another notation, the oldcomer who told me this lived in a very dark, damp house which felt quite eerie to me, and it made the story quite eerie as well.
If anyone would like to comment on this or know anything about it.. please share

Just wondering for the posters on this site if anyone came across any actual video footage of this facility.
Someone posted the link a while ago, and now I can't find the posting for it.. I guess I reply too many times (should have saved it on my links)
I would appreciate very much any posting of a link which would tell what video, if any, exists.
Thank you

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Parent Weekend
« on: March 12, 2002, 02:47:00 PM »
For those of you that understand what the heck this is about, please let me know.
On occassion there would be something called "Parent Weekend", normally in Plymouth MI we would have Saturdays at host homes and on Parent Weekends we had to go to the building.
I didn't know what happened on those weekends we went to the building, all I know is that parents got together and stayed with other parents at host homes on those days.
Does anyone know what was said, or things they had to do on those days?

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / any good days that you can recall?
« on: March 12, 2002, 02:43:00 PM »
Just a question for all survivors of Straight Inc.

I have been posting nearly on every topic on this Message Board recalling all types of things, that are mainly negative.

I do recall one day that the road manager from the rock band "Journey" came to Straight in Plymouth.

He was telling us about what he says to Steve Perry (lead singer) of the band when he gets down about being home and stuff and being on the road so much he never was home.

He also allowed us to say one thing to our parents in the microphone, then allowed us to stand right beside him afterwards.

Only a few of us were chosen and I felt very privelaged to be one of the first "phasers" he picked to talk to my parents, unfortnatly they didn't show up that night because my dad was ill, but another parent decided to come forward and act in their place which I thought was really cool.

The road manager then took a wad of 1 dollar bills and shredded them into little pieces giving each one of us a piece of that dollar he shredded.. he then told us that our lives are worth much more than money and because we are more important, his money isn't worth anything.
Unfortunatly, since we couldn't keep money on us at 1st phase, my oldcomer told me to give it to her and she threw it away, but,I still think about that to this day, that was the best day at Straight that I had.

Please respond and tell us your best day that you can recall (besides getting out of course).

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Christmas at Straight Inc.
« on: March 10, 2002, 08:52:00 AM »
I would like to know, since there are many "straightlings" (bad term) out there.. what was Christmas like in that facility? I was there from April to Nov. so I was not going to tolorate that!

If you care to share, please let me know. When I left I wasn't happy of the thought to know that people couldn't even celebrate holidays "normally" with family and friends.

Such a sad time

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / asking for items.. the Straight way
« on: March 09, 2002, 05:01:00 PM »
I was thinking back to this, lately I've been having a lot of memories of this place, does anyone remember having to "ask" to pick things up when you were a 1st phaser?
If you did it by accident.. what do you remember in group saying about it?

I know I shouldn't re-hash the past (geez, can I say that word "hash"??).. however, I thought that maybe recollection could help some of us overcome the brutality of embarrassment and ignorance we all went through then.

FYI for those who wonder what Straight Inc. turned into. I drove by there about a year ago in 2001. It turned into some car dealership or auto place now.. the building is still the same, but I'm sure that they did a lot of renevations inside
