Mission Mountain School / News
« on: March 16, 2006, 11:30:00 AM »
Kim, my granddaughter was at MMS from August 2004 to December 2005. She no longer speaks to me, or most of her extended family. Whatever they did to her appears to have changed her into a different person. Since there was nothing wrong with her in the first place, it is very heartbreaking. Please learn to love yourself again and don't let that happen to you.

Mission Mountain School / why this site may cause depression

You are so right,Kat. That's what keeps me coming back as well. Of course, I wasn't a student there, but do have a very good reason for wanting to keep tabs on the place. Just keep those letters going out and the stories coming in and one day all of it will reach the right person. It's just hard to be patient!

This forum has been of great help to me since my granddaughter was taken away to a program more than a year ago. I have met a lot of good people and learned much about this abusive and horrible industry. I believe that when she is free, she will be able to find comfort and useful information here that will help her heal. So, thanks from me too, Ginger!,

Betsy,
Why don't you register so you can receive private messages. There are those of us out here who care, but are unable to post on public  forums without jeopardizing loved ones still in a program.

Beautifully said, Spots! You are in the same boat as I am, except of course, that your granddaughter is out and my precious one is still incarcerated. Not a moment goes by that I am not worried sick about her. Of course, I am not allowed to communicate with her in any way, nor is her other gramma, her cousins, aunts uncles or friends. Anyway you look at it, this is not therapy, it's punishment administered by strangers for profit. I think everyone should ask these questions; if these programs are so highly principled and dedicated to helping children, how can they justify such obscene profits? Why is it that they spend million of dollars lobbying against governmental regulation and oversight? Why are the overwhelming majority located in remote areas, in states and other countries with with lax or non-existent child protective laws?

Your response is without a doubt the most intellegent and thoughtful synopsis of the teen/parent problem I have ever seen on this forum....or any other. I raised 4 daughters, two  of them I thought were really "straight as arrows", the other two I knew were rather wild. They are all now adults, and much to my horror, the cheerleaders, honor students, athletes, etc., were every bit as bad as the ones who openly exibited anti-social behavior. Fortunately, all of them got decent grades, none of them got pregnant, they all went to college and became responsible adults. Unfortunately, one of them sent her daughter to a "behavior modification program" in spite of my (the other grandmother and the majority of aunts, uncles and cousin's) protests. Until my granddaughter was sent away, I had no idea that such places existed. The more research I did, the more horrified I became, to realize that so many normal teens are sent away to be incarcerated by parents who were probably much worse than their poor kids. I think you summed up the situation beautifully, and I thank you for doing so.

Mission Mountain School / the truth about it...

I hope you all don't quit posting. I am interested in everything you have to say because someone very dear to me is currently at MMS. Please bring forth more information. Thanks!

I notice that TPalumbo just became a member on 3-15-05. You are most likely a troll for one of the programs, searching for adverse information about your particular jailhouse. I am even quite sure I know which hellhole you represent. Forget gleaning any information from me, you would only use it to torture some poor child.

Not to change the subject, but I too, came to this site after my precious granddaughter was sent to a BM facility. Fornits has been a great comfort to me, eventhough the information I have found here has been nothing short of horrifying. My granddaughter is barely 15, and will probably be incarcerated until she is 18, unless things change drastically. Anyhow, I get sick of the trolls too, although some of them are pretty funny, in a morbid sort of way.

Dear Kerry and Melissa,
I am very grateful to you both for having the courage to post your stories on this forum. Until you came along it had been nearly impossible to gain any first-hand information about Mission Mountain. Hopefully your messages will allow parents to make more informed decisions about sending their daughters to this facility. It is good to hear that you are both doing so well.
Thanks again!

I agree that all the secrecy is very suspect. It seems that most of the websites are becoming less informative. Only a few months ago you could download a lot more information on the various program websites, sometimes even their contracts. I agree that if P.U.R.E. is so eager to help parents make informed decisions, they should at least identify the programs they support so parents could check them out on their own. I am beginning to think there is no such thing as a worthwhile program, even the real delinquents would be better off in state or county juvenile facilities, at least they would have access to legal representation, medical care and maybe even some counseling with a person who went to college.

Is there anyone out there who knows how to find out where a child has been sent. P.I.'s, hackers, spies, etc?

Does anyone out there have information on Mission Mountain in Montana, or the owner/headmaster, John Mercer?
