Still trying to wrap my brain around this. I am agoraphobic, and in a hotel room. So I keep trying to think about how to do write an RFP to the NEA to do a show. Please look here and see if you have feedback and where we fit: http://www.nea.gov/grants/apply/index.html

I do metal art, photography, and sculpture. I know Psy does web and multimedia (?), and Che writes. If anyone can figure out where this project fits please post. I can try and write an RFP for it eventually. Right now, I have a house to put back together. I know all of us write well and an RFP is not that hard.

I don't know you, but this post sure scares me. I have lungs problems that worsened greatly after my stay at Timberlawn. I guess I need to discuss this with my doctor. There are no cancer cells, I have been checked x3. Definitely inflammatory cells, though.

I am sorry. I wish I had more to say. I guess this is a wake up call to all of us.

How about Buckhorn Beer. We used to sell that at a grocery store I worked at in 1979. NASTY. Shit. NASTY. Shiner Bock is the real deal.

Here is a pic I took before I left Houston last week of the errant power pole that is keeping a good part of the neighborhood without power. One friend is on his second generator. His first one after 10 days.

P.S. If this code can be fixed so that the picture is not a download please fix it. Thanks.[attachment=0:1i9ilcwu]P9180035v2.jpg[/attachment:1i9ilcwu]

You guys are assholes who don't know what you are speaking about. Galveston has a strong history as the "wall street" of the south. Okay, make all the jokes you want. The ship channel of Houston is a major shipping port. there are refineries etc there. I doubt it was the rich who stayed. They mostly have weekend homes. Galveston is a very poor area. Much of history was washed away in this storm, but you would not know that since you are not from there. Yes, you will always have the one surfer who wants to surf the hurricane undertow, but I doubt that is who stayed. Unfortunately, much of the the public beaches were converted to private homes in recent years. These homes had no seawall, but even along the seawall there was a great deal of damage.

Galveston is also a cruise port. In recent years it has been transformed from a rather poor town to a tourist location. As a Houstonian, it has been interesting to watch. There is also a large artists community. So basically I am saying, stuff it. If you don't live somewhere then shut the hell up. I stayed in Houston, because i have elderly parents who would not leave. I have now left until my house is repaired, and livable. Hopefully in ten days I can return home. You cannot imagine what any of this has been like. The sadness, negativity, depression and grief that we have all suffered.
So cram it both of you.

Houston and Galveston photos for you to look at:

This is our world right now. Either come down here and help us clean it up, or shut up.

Post Ike depression has hit badly. just want to sleep. Eating is necessary but the hotel does not make it convenient. Means I have to shower and dress. I know this is PTSD, and will go away. I talked to someone at the other end of my street and even she was shocked at the wreckage they are pulling out of my section. We had 22 people who needed to relocate. About 7 were not able to as the apartments are full or damaged. I am waiting 2 weeks for mold remediation due to debris needing to be removed first.

The depression is bad and I guess it does not belong here. Sorry folks. It is here.
Photos for you.

come on. Are any of you interested. obviously, if we were institutionalized than we were all talented. i am tired and not making much sense, but from what i read here all of us have a great deal of talent. sometimes the best way to overcome the phobias we have left is to create about them. For instance, I don't like bit crowded places so i would go shoot photos of big crowded places. I never got to go to parks so go to parks and shoot pictures of people. warp the pics do everything i was not allowed to do. i was not allowed to write about myself and my feelings. the list went on.

can you imagine if this were a big show and released into the public. it would be amazing.

9/18/2008 - UPDATE

FEMA has let me into the hotel program until Oct. 14th. Unfortunately, it is out of Houston, which means I have to find a new apartment before I leave. Rain leaked through the bedroom windows, but fortunately, I had put down towels to absorb that. They were sopping wet, and moldy. The apartment complex stated that rain coming through windows is normal. Yepper?

They also laughed about the big mildew spot growing in my closet. Moving will not be fun, especially on the fly.

Please don't drown out this post like you guys did on the last round. It is rude. I am in Houston not Galveston. I am not even sure why you chose to drown out this post.

Many of us here are hurting both mentally and financially. My apartment is still w/o power, w/o a/c, and w/o hot water. So the FEMA hotel program was necessary. My complex is far down the list to be repaired. There are shingles, tree limbs, glass, and bent light posts everywhere. It feels like a scene out of "Lost".

Thanks to those to offered help. I might need it and will let you know or Psy can let you know how to reach me.

Take care and I hope no one else on this board is being left in a jam by this storm.

I am Artsy

Update 09_16_2008:

We now have periodic phone service. I am still at my parents and it is still not a good situation. I went to my apartment and took pictures today. They have started cleanup but have not started to reassemble my A/C unit. Electricity remains out for most of complex. There are shingle everywhere you step. I went to remove the drop cloths and towels I used to keep water from getting into the apartment and discovered they were drenched. I immediately retaped the drop cloths over the windows and left the towels in place. I emptied the fridge and turned it off for fear of mold. It stinks in from emptying out the fridge. There are lots of branches and tree limbs everywhere. The few living there are partying the day away. They are on the bottom floor so they don't have to worry about roof leaks like I do. I had mold from Rita and it will worsen now due to the heat in the apartment. Our management off is not present for my section. I have to go to another section to report problems.

Trying to find a new place to live or get into FEMA hotel for awhile. Starting that next online. This sucks. Those of you who think I am a mooch can take a hike. I stayed here to care for elderly parents in their 80's who refused to leave. Now I am stuck here until I can find a hotel to go to. If you guys have advice please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very depressed at this point. Living with parents that never liked you much to begin with is not easy.

Psy,

You have my blessing to split it off.

Folks I don't need money. I might need physical help moving, and help finding a place to go. I am at my parents and that is not a great situation considering our past. No i am not a stranger trying o mooch off of anyone. I am a person in Houston trying to survive and a member of this chat board. I have not gone to FEMA or called my insurance company yet. I am waiting to see if the apt complex is condemned or what. Please don't fly off the handle about me asking for help. Read my past posts and you will know my history.

Thanks,

24 years later and nothing has changed. My dad is still abusive. My mom still tells me I am imagining the abuse. The hurricane has reminded me of how poorly we got along and what got me sent off to treatment. They were sick. I was well, and the scapegoat. Since I spoke the truth I got sent off. I don't trusts any of my sibs or my parents. Had you asked me this before the hurricane my answer would have been different. I thought my mom and I trusted each other, but today I am sad and disillusioned. Near breaking point with useless siblings. I had removed myself from the equation for 15 years and was brought back 10 years ago to take care of them. My hurricane relocation will probably be out of town. Iamartsy

Hey you guys,

I am in Houston. If any of of you are in Texas and can help me relocate once it becomes possible please message me. My Apartment is in bad shape. Hoping FEMA will reimburse me for what insurance won't pay. I will probably have to find new place. I think my apt was hit by a few tornadoes and don't know what will happen to it. I am at my parents for now and that is not a good situation. Psy can explain more if you need. Thanks for any help. Those of you who think we are assholes for living on a coast please shut up. I was in a jam with elderly parents. At this point there needs are okay, and I feel I can leave. For now trying to find shelter. Iamartsy.
