Was that boarding school Hyde?

He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself, and what he possesses; else he lives precariously, and at discretion.

People that bully are looking for a reaction as a validation of there existance. Human nature is all the same no matter where you are.  The thing that Hyde and your program do is take the natural behaviour of kids to peer pressure and bully and turn it into a force that up holds the program.

So did Hyde make you a more effective bully?

Zany fun. It was a first - even Ben Franklin never arranged for something like this, and he was full of himself.

Tom Allan, great to hear from you!  I couldn't agree more and there's a related question I've been thinking abotu...is it really ever ok to toss a kid from their house before they are 18?  I am thinking not.  No matter how bad.  Don't parents have a legal obligation to clothe and shelter kids under 18?

I don't think that there were any specific laws against throwing your kids out in the '70s. Some states passed "throwaway" laws in the '80s.

A fundamentalist Christian President who claims God told him to invade Iraq ? an act that killed more than 150,000 civilians, mostly women and children ? is not that much different from a fundamentalist Islamic fanatic who claims it is the will of Allah that he send young men to America to crash airliners into office buildings and kill 3,000 plus.

The pressure goes a little deeper than that. When I was there in '76 Hyde used to advise parents to throw you out of the house if you didn't like Hyde.

When I tell the truth, it is not for the sake of convincing those who do not know it, but for the sake of defending those that do.

I do get that these are rapists and that nobody likes these guys. But then the natural extention of this would be to minor drug offenders (or drug offenders who are minors) who "remain in denial".

Big Olympic style gym and a pretty good outdoor track in Bath. Both new in '76. Old classrooms in the back of the Mansion. Priority...Sports!

Food was actually not that bad. Of course if you wrestled in the winter you didn't dare eat much of it, might not make weight. Priority...Sports!

floridatresure, who's PAYING for the program? If it's you try not sending them money and pleading poverty. She might then "graduate from the program" so fast it'd make your head spin.

I've often wondered about that myself. I always thought that he'd end up working for an outfit like WWASP or Straight, Inc. but I've never seen his name come up in any posts about either one.

Synanon used to use it's inmates for slave labor too. Back in the day they were the biggest manufacturer of pens and pencils with advertising on them.

Then tell me something else. When I was there in '76 if they really wanted to get brutal with someone on 2-4 they'd give him a shovel and make him dig his own grave and fill it back in over and over again. See the movie "Cool Hand Luke". Sometime a while back a pro-Hyde poster said that they don't do that one anymore. Do they?

Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize an undercover dictatorship. To restrict the art of healing to one class of men, and deny equal privilege to others, will be to constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic, and have no place in a Republic. The Constitution of this Republic should make special privilege for medical freedom as well as religious freedom.
