Please answer the questions to the survey below. We are trying to gather data for a survey and will be working with a university to see if we can get the results of the survey published.
This survey can also be found on the "Troubled Teen Industry".

Seeking survivors
If you are survivor of a residential teen program and would like to take part in this survey, please answer the following questions:
1. Which program did you attend?
2. How long were you in the program?
3. Why were you sent there?
4. Did you feel your parents were justified in sending you away?
5. How did you get there? Escort service pick you up in the middle of the night, or did you go willingly.
6. If you went willingly, do you feel the program was misrepresented to you? If so, how?
7. Education: Did you get a good education while you were in the program? Did you have teachers who gave lectures or was it all self teaching? Did you receive a high school diploma, or were you able to finish and get a diploma on time? Do you feel the education was adequate and helped you move on to college?
8. How was the food? And the cleanliness of the place?
9. Were you abused? If so, how? How many times? By whom?
10. Did you witness others being abused? If so, what form of abuse and how often?
11. Overall, was your experience positive or negative?
12. If it was positive, please summarize your experience.
13. If it was negative, please summarize your experience.

Girls, I urge you to come forward and answer the questions so that you can be part of a survey that is being put together. The data will be shared with university psychologists who will, hopefully, be willing to write about this and get it published. It's a start and we need to start. i don't see anyone really filling this out that had problems with the school unless they can post anonymously. what is this survey for, i don't understand why need names for it to be vaild. Valid for who

Maybe more girls would feel comfortable about using their names if the survey could be completed privately.

I really honestly dont understand why people would be scared to fill it out publicly. Maybe if some one could fill me in so I could understand.

We are now looking into putting together an online survey that people could respond to privately, meaning the data gathered would not be posted on Fornits and would only be used for the survey.
We are finding out that when therapists, and other professionals, want to help with the cause the first thing they ask for are statistics. We have none. The only way that it will ever happen is if we start one, so here we are, ready to do it.
Please be patient as we do our homework to find the best way possible to do this. We have found a website where we can buy space for a survey. We are looking into it to be certain it will be valid once completed. So please look for us again soon, and hopefully we will have a survey you can fill out online and anonymously. I do understand why people do not want to share their names, I feel the same way about it.

aren't people with Ph'Ds the ones who should be doing the surveys? or news organizations? what is you involvment in this?

I'm the one who started this thread. I am going to find out how to best do this so people will feel comfortable participating. The survey is a good idea and is very needed.

You might get a better turnout if you didnt post as anon. Your questions are also asking for subjective answers which makes for survey responses that are a pain in the butt to read. You might consider asking your questions so that the responses are measurable. Scales of 1 through 5 measuring bad to good are common. You also might ask for some input from those that you are planning on presenting your data to.

Most definitely. I put this out there to see how people would respond and to see if people would want to participate. I've got it on the Teen Industry and Straight, Inc. links as well, and people are interested. Many people are realizing that until we have some statistics we are not going to get anywhere. Yes, you are right about all that you said. The survey will be done properly and the questions will not be as they are here. I am asking people to be patient while I get this put together with the right people.
Please be understanding in my need to remain anonymous. You will know, once we have it ready, which university we'll be working with, who the players will be, etc. We are going to put together a legitimate survey, hopefully one that can be done online, privately. So be on the lookout for it some time in the future.

why, if you are working with a university would you stay annonymous and why all this secrecy as if this is all top secret. professionals are already on this!!

a survey would be crucial to understanding the effects these places are having, regardless of the source. WE do have to make sure that the questions are not biased, though, like sturgglingteens.com survey where the traffic is unlikely to be students who feel they were harmed by the programs they attended. We need more people like ANON invested in helping youth out, for sure.

Its not regardless of the source because its important to establish legitimacy oherwise why bother so it sounds super suspicious to me, who is this person who is asking all these questions and if im not told i would not feel comfortable ansering
aslo survey shoud be done by people who know how to actually conduct a survey and its clear this person has no clue! it can't be biased!!
you sent me an email yourself saying that doctor in Florida i think is working on one and i think that it SHOULD be left to the experts not a paranoid person with lot to hide like secret survey person

um no therapists/researchers are the ones doing the reasearch, thats what most of them go to school for. there are procedures they need to follow

let me clarify, anon, i actually agree with all that you said up to a certain point. I do think that it can be valuable to conduct a survey- outside of a reserach insitution- to gain a better understanding the extent of the problem. I am by no means suggesting that this is in an way reflective of surveys/studies/research conducted at the University level.
The source is important, I take that back- but if the source is who I think it may be then it's hard for me to be impartial.
Certainly the ANON postings lends a great deal of skepticism to surveyors credibility- shrug- perhaps that will be recognized and altered accordingly. Certianly it doesn't help. [ This Message was edited by: katfish on 2005-09-08 21:59 ]

I'm all for some kind of survey whoever you are...And I would agree that no survey would ever be legitimate if it was one sided....it will be attacked as bias if one sided, therefore discredited even if the findings are correct. I believe there is a real need to get all survivor stories out regardless of their viewpoint. But no study is worth anything unless its widely distributed, actually read and discussed as well.
