You know, religion is not a good thing (in my opinion), but Jesus wasn't a bad guy. I don't believe he was "the son of god", but he was pretty revolutionary and a big supporter of the redistribution of wealth and a champion for the rights of the oppressed. I think the main reason he was killed was that the royalty didn't much care for his "poor good, rich bad" etc, and it was catching on. A lot of people with good ideas that catch on are killed. Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X.  Overall, I don't think Jesus would much care for the religion that's being practiced in his name.
So anyway that's why the maggot ditty was offensive to me even though I question not your right to post it.

Was it Noam Chomsky who said that if god did in fact exist, he's oppressive and should be overthrown? That's prolly right on.

Anybody see the Ally McBeal where the little boy sued god because he had lukemia?

I'm interested in this movie too and will see it next month when I'm in the states, but just because it's an interesting part of history. DOes it end at him dying or is the whole rise again thingy in there?

to quote Tom Robbins:

"A longing for the Divine is intrinsic in homo sapiens. (For all we know, it is innate in squirrels, dandelions, and diamond rings, as well.) We approach the Divine by enlarging our souls and lighting up our brains. To expedite those two things may be the mission of our existence...

"...since religion bore false witness to the Divine, religion was blasphemy. And once it entered into its unholy alliancewith politics, it became the most dangerous and repressive force that the world has ever known."

I have to stay away from churches and all but the most loosely organized anarchistic groups because I am extremely prone to cult mentality (I imagine a lot of us are). I SO want someone to have the answer. And so I keep a healthy distance from anyone who claims to.

That being said, churches can do good things and coming together to try and tap into what is beautiful and good in the world is certainly not inherently bad. To each their own, live and let live.

Morli, your nephew and your family will be in my thoughts. I know how scary this is and am glad you are all pulling together, you need each other at times like this. Please keep us updated.

1) Was Art Barker in Synanon? And were all these former synanon freaks who founded their own scary orgs people who chose to become members or there due to their parents?

2)What WERE the 7 steps?

3)Plymouth Straight:
  A. Didn't the Plymouth building get shut down and everybody shipped to Deerborne (20 minutes or so away) before Deereborn moved to Southfield and became Pathways?
B.Was the actual corporate name of Plymouth Straight not AARC? Another board set off something I half remember, it seems like a phone mom once commented to me on how people were always calling wanting ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens?), because Plymouth Straight's only phone listing was under AARC?

My husband signed on a house I don't want to live with him (or his goddamned sister) in. He feels this will work itself out. I turned in all the paperwork for my fucking "carte de sejour" so I can stay in France, where I don't want to be. I found out my ex-boyfriend got married. Even though I myself have gotten married and had 2 kids since we broke up, I am jealous. Huh.

I did all things child-care related because apparently this is the woman's role. Yeah, I really don't see this marriage lasting. My son is teething and very clingy and nursing around the clock. I feel very guilty any time I get impatient. I want him to grow up intrinsically knowing that his feelings are important. I want him to take for granted having his body and emotions respected, so that he doesn't even bother hanging out with people who don't. I want inner peace and a feeling of general well being to be his norm. All my energy is going into him, and he is worth it, and the smiles and hugs and joy I get are a great payback, but...I am tired.

Wow that felt really good. Great idea, Therion.

But I'm married anyway. I hate it. I'm just so much happier when I'm not in a romantic relationship (not that this ever stopped me from having them).
 Motherhood is great, though.
