Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Straight is everywhere
« on: September 19, 2005, 05:44:00 PM »
I just moved to florida a year ago. I see sembler construction in a lot of places. Does he own the whole state?

The clearwater aquarium has a plaque donation by the "newtons". It's probably them. Did straight put them where they are politically or the other way round.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / powerlessness
« on: September 15, 2005, 09:02:00 AM »
I have a question for those of you who use drugs. I guess mostly the illegal ones and alcohol:

How do you have power over the use of these chemicals?

I realize that this will seem like an absurd and possibly insulting question. I mean it in the most humble way, though.

I am looking for discussions on this free of rhetoric, metaphor or analogies.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / venting about host parents
« on: March 28, 2005, 08:53:00 AM »
I had trouble sleeping last night thinking about some of the homes I stayed at in straight.

Dear Mrs. Hu**es:

I didn't deserve your condescending attitude and your ugly anger day in and day out. Our lives were bad enough during the day without having to come home to your nastiness. You were not my therapist, you were a patient of a bogus clinic like me. It was not my fault that you no longer wanted to be in straight and were angry that they wouldn't graduate your son. It is not my fault that you were poor (that is a consequence of having all those fucking kids and a shitty job). Furthermore, I did not deserve to have to justify to you why I deserved to eat your lousy food. Why did I deserve your one spoonful of peanut butter in my sandwich and half bowl of cereal? Because I was a human being who needed food to survive. Your comentary on my "therapy" was none of your business. You had no idea what I had been through, was going through, and whether this therapy was appropriate for me, which it was not not.

Dear Mrs. Cla**e:

Shame on you. Your child was a terror. He openly abused another child in front of you repeatedly. You are lucky this child is not dead or severely disabled from the time your son pushed him down a flight of stairs, yet you did nothing to intervene or report your son. You left that to me. You had no right to accuse me of being responsible for my own mother's death when it was clear to you that leukemia took her life. Your son, like many, did not have a drug problem, he had an emotional problem, and therefore abused his newcomers physically and emotionally. Why did you let it happen? You were supposed to be a responsible adult. You are supposed to protect children. I felt betrayed by you.

Some of these host parents were very fucked up. I'm not talking about the many who were brainwashed by straight like us all and went along with the lies, I'm talking about those that took it a little too far.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / James

To james (I think):

You were from Va or NC. You were my newcomer after I had been there almost 2 years (mostly 1st phase), my dad had just married into a graduate family, I had a new sister staff member and they had forced me to move to 2nd phase. You were misbehaving and sent home with me (why?). I screamed at you as hard as I could. I had not been a screamer before this. I was freaked out and you were fucking around in the house. I screamed at you in group, too. I know I am not remembering your trauma completely, I was in trauma then too. Anyway, I'm not trying to justify my behavior, just give background for my apology. My punishment is that the guilt is really haunting me. :scared:

To anyone else I caused trauma. I am sorry. I have been healing from trauma for 16 years now, FWIT.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / pooh bang!
« on: October 13, 2004, 04:41:00 PM »
I have always been interested in Straight slang and traditions. It's totally cool to read ex-straightlings from other programs use the same lingo we did. It's like we were in there together. So my question is:

Do people from other programs recognize the bizarre words: Pooh, Pooh Bang, Cu, or Cugga Mugga

These were words that we would actually say to each while in group or being walked to the toilet. They were also accompanied by hand signals. Offically it was considered "talking out" and was discouraged, but somehow was not illegal like actually talking.

Pooh-yes (hand signal was an ok sign)
Pooh Bang-exuberant agreement
Cu-no (fold your four fingers toward the plam and pronate the wrist)
Cugga Mugga-strong disagreement

If people from other areas are familiar with these terms, that is so fucked-up! Please let me know.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / the unclean cerebrum
« on: September 22, 2004, 10:48:00 AM »
I found myself chuckling the other day remembering this little saying:

"My brain needed some washing"

In fact, I remember myself saying this to people.

What, did I have "ring around the thalamus?"

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / sqwawking (talking behind backs)
« on: September 22, 2004, 10:41:00 AM »
Hey I think it's totally uncool for people to be posting first and last names of clients on this thing. Just because you want to know how "Joe Schmoe" is doing after all these years doesn't mean the whole world should get to know that he was in a "drug rehab" as a kid and is now fucked-up and crazy. Even the ones who you may still be pissed off at today. Remember, we all delt with the trauma differently and most of us were innocents.

Even Junior staff. Sure they signed on for $5.00/hr, very lucrative, but most felt they were useless doing anything else. Hell, some actually wanted to help people, and thought they were.

The only names who I think we can post are those of senior and executive staff. They new what they were signing up for. It was their careers.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / split off
« on: September 15, 2004, 08:59:00 PM »
Anyone remember split offs? This was the major guilt-type brainwashing that affected me alot. "I'm scared for this group..." Blah Blah. When there were alot of misbehavers and start-overs, staff would separate the girls and guys physically in separate rooms. Upper phasers would cry about how scared they were that the group was declared unstable...and everyone had a general anxiety about either being caught, accused or abused. It occured like every 6 months so it really had an effect. Only singing "straight is it" or nine to nine, etc...not the cutsey songs. And we would sing them over and over. They really thrived on surprising us...catching us offguard. What a shitty therapeutic technique!

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / the building
« on: September 15, 2004, 02:19:00 PM »
I've been reading posts from people from other programs of straight and am struck by the similarities in buildings. I always assumed straight found some abandoned warehouse and simply made-do with what they got, but I am beginning to think there was an actual intended architectural layout. They all had intake rooms? They all had carpet rooms? Was there someone who said, "straight should have two tiny rooms to interogate/abuse people in, and squeeze them into in the mornings when they are too tired to stand while they wait in sweltering heat for hours finally to sit down and begin flailing their bodies around for the entire day. Also, they must sit in a carpetted room twice a week while in front of the executives." Were we too lowly to sit in chairs there?

I thought it was arbitrary.

Also, do the fla people actually know the semblers? As in, did they lead raps? Apparently, these people are the masterminds behind my trauma, but their names are new to me. We had a bunch of exectutive staff. Were executive staff members also shareholders? Was this a corporation or a not for profit?
