Facility Question and Answers / Ironwood
« on: December 05, 2007, 08:38:13 AM »
Ironwood Maine on Fornits Wiki

I can see that this tread is turning into a Roloff tread but I think that Ironwood is more alike Turn-about in Utah, which is a freeze your butt of until you break facility.

Ironwood has Frye and Turn-about has Roundy which is unheated and where warm drinks it the ice you dry in the sun.

I think that they are too open to be A Roloff spin-off. News letters, too many pictures etc. Of course there is isolation from family and friends and something they call a degree, which also can be won at a 6-flag amusement park, but are we talking of the lighthouse education or a more serious diploma mill?

PLEASE, don't presume all wilderness programs are bad things, or do bad things, or have unhappy participants any more than Burger King.

Not all wilderness programs are bad if they are done right.

The TV-serie "Brat Camp 5" used a special version of Anasazi's programs where the mothers went out in the desert also and guest what. Suddenly the length of the program only needed to be 3 weeks because the parents learned a lot too.

One mother did learn one word for a start and that word was "No".

She had made her own business working alot. Because of that she felt that she had to compensate the child with gifts all time. Suddenly the child became unbearble demanding. When this mother returned back to the UK after 3 weeks against the therapists advide, all thought that it is going to turn out badly, but it didn't because the mother had learned her lesson.

Interviewed 9 months later the mother spoke only of normal confrontations but also about an overall behaving daughter.

Beside the defunct Aspen Family Camp I have found only one parent / child wilderness program - Soltrek's. Why are american parents not prepared to do the work themselves all the way instead of playing honeymoon for 3 days in the end of a normal program?

Some research are showing the cause for juvenile crime(Funny enough we did debate this issue some years ago in order to raise the age-limit for drivers licenses from 18 to 20, but it died out).

Experts link teen brains' immaturity, juvenile crime (USAtoday)

And even some states are starting to use common sense when they adjust the laws.

They got off easy because the court decided to protect the child. That should not be cause for a suit against the authorities.

I will recommend that you take contact to a journalist who you invite into your home so he or she can see the situation in person.

Make sure that the journalist sees the papers from your local doctor and get links to the very many webpages about the dangers of face down restraints.

If the court decides against you, then make a funeral arrangement out of it. Get the journalist to take pictures and write the story so it will be a story about a mother saying the last farewell to her son (which of course could be the case if he is sent there. You could say that this place has a reputation of failure with its past history.)

You need the help from the public and in order to get it, they need a story about a boy about being sent to his death.

But be nice and state where they have worked and what they are doing now.

If they have appeared in the media or they are mentioned in a tread you can put it under External Links

Fornits Wiki page with links to updates

On Fornits Wiki, we are following this case.

This has happened is:

The staff including the pastor has been before a grand jury and the case is going to trial. They could face up to 20 years in prison, but they are not parents but program staff, so we are properly talking about days instead of years, IF they are convicted.

But the crazy people in the city have appeared in hundreds in support of the staff. So the local community finds it OK to drag a girl after a car.

Strange!

Is San Antonio a part of the States?

It seems to be a troubled place. If the kids are courtordered, the parents have no choice but to visit them as often as possible because they are easy prey.

Well I have been counting thru my restraint logs.. so far 98 restraints in less than a 6 month period... BASTARDS....

You're telling me that you were restrained 98 times in less then a six month period? I can't even begin to imagine what that was like (if there were no repeats in those logs you're going through)?

I'm not calling you a liar. However, in my 4 years of being in programs I never saw a certain person, or individual being restrained that many times, not even halfway close. I was restrained about 10 times over a 4 year/4 different program stay, and I was one of the worse kids there. I don't know much about PV though. If that is the case, why did they keep you in this program, and not toss you out? I'm assuming when you are talking restraints, you are talking about full blown take downs, right?

Any, and all of the programs I was personally in would have tossed me out if I were to have behaved that badly. They just wouldn't have tolerated having me be such a negative influence on all the kids around me. Not only that, but it's tough on staff emotionally as well as physically to do that many take downs.

Wow, 98?!! Over 6 months? That's mind blowing. I didn't know PV to be so restraint happy?????
I have mapped a lot of programs, but none....NONE combine restraints in such a both clinical and cynical way.

WWASP are bastards, but at least the common staff on the facilities does not pretend to be otherwise. They don't wear suits, when they leave work and appear in public.

According to their video, it is about to learn the children to be patients.

As a boy I got meningitis and was held in total isolation for 14 days. The only visits I got was my parents and they had to wear masks. I had such a fever that they were able to do a lumbar puncture without me complaining. Being a patient is nothing you can learn, it is a title you earn when you are ill.

I have investigated if we have such a facility in Denmark and yes we do. In order to be admitted you have to kill a person in a very brutal way and while you are at, kill two or three just to be sure that you doesn't get the 12-16 year per murder, but life (In Denmark life means life on paper only. You are released when all the doctors agree that you only can chew melted butter or but also if they feel that you are no danger to the society anymore. The longest prisontime served since WWII is 33 years and it was for murdering 4 unarmed cops and they were served in a normal prison. Just a year ago the authorities released a former doctor who traveled 100 kilometers where she killed the wife of her lover and burned down the down with two children who also died. She ended up serving about 10-11 years. So the crime has to be worse than that.).

I found an article about the place. A person has isolated himself for 10 years in his room because he is afraid that the staff will steal his thoughts. For 10 year they have tried to speak to him but he tries to strangle people if they stay alone in his room so this is their only case where they feel that they have failed - so far.

The article mentions another case. A man had stabbed a person and had chopped his victim up. He arrived in a suit similar to the posey the children at PV are restrained in. But within a week they could let him walk without danger among the other patients.

A stay can be a short as 18 months, but the normal stay is 7 years.

This unit is the only one of its kind in Denmark and they can detain 50 patients. The name is "The security" because it is the only place none has ever escaped from since it was founded in 1918.

But not even this unit has that many restraints as PV can achieve. Patients arrive in restraints and are kept the first 24-48 hours in restraints, but within a week the doctors has diagnosed the inmate and 90 percent are able to live in the facility among the other patients. They say that they are experts in seeing a built-up of an aggression so they can avoid the use of restraints.

I was in disbelief when I learned about PV. While I can understand the use of restraints for a short period if the staff is attacked with a weapon, I can't understand it used as a strategy for treatment especially when the teenagers who are entering the facility are not even diagnosed yet. At PV they are supposed to diagnose themselves in group and invidual therapy by giving the staffmembers confessions.

Why are they restraining in such a unheard way? Maybe if a staffmember could get on here and tell why?

Examples of mechanical restraints used at Peninsula Village include: body net (A soft nylon net that is placed over the adolescent while lying on a restraint bed and secured so that they can not injure themselves or others. The body net typically reaches from the adolecents's shoulders to calves,), and restraint jacket (A thick canvas jacket with straps that go around to keep the adolescent's arms tucked by their sides. The restraints jacket typically reaches to the hip area so the adolescent has free movement of their legs.)

So the parents should not be shocked. They must have read this manual before admission and have decided that this kind of torture is OK for their child.

One question remains to be asked. They also state:

Quote
It will not be used in a manner that causes undue physical discomfort, parm or pain to the adolecent.

But are the use of these restraints not by nature causing discomfort?

Look at the CERT category on Fornits Wiki.

It is rather new company, so there is not many sources out there.

But their program is special due to the fact that they allow either phone AND mail to / from parents until the child has reached a certain level.

If you take into consideration that they accept girls as young as aged 11, it does not look good. Girls that young needs contact to their parent more than older girls.

Another red flag is that I have not been able to get the exact address of the campus on three of the facilities. Maybe someone should call them and express interest in a visit before enrolling their "daughter".

Fornits Wiki has an entry with link to the treads here in the forum:

The Fornits Wiki entry

As you can see I have not started up yet. I only have the forum treads and two myspace groups of former survivors.

What I find more disturbing is that wikipedia has an entry like a advertice:

I am ill at the moment (flu) and have to rest, so it will take a while before the page will be improved.

Possible WWASP connection?

I have found this statement on myspace.

I would be interested to find out why east ridge doesn't get along with the family anymore if that is the case. and did anyone else get threatend with being sent to somoa when they were there they threatened me with it and this kid mikey feelings who actually ended up getting sent there. That i realize now is one of the WWASP schools which was shut down by the somoan govt. This made me wonder if the family had any connection with wwasp or if that kids parents just happend to find it.
