Exactly what I was thinking.

Elan School / Elan, Scientology and Tom Cruise

Let's not judge tom cruise on things that he hasn't done yet in a hypothetical situation.  Cruise may be insane, but he does have a point about how instutitionalized drugs are seen as a saveall measure whenever you're feeling bad.  A lot of us here can appericate the fact that just druging somebody up won't solve their problems.  Not to mention that doing it involentarlly or without notification is abusive; as has happened in some out of the US programs.

It's interesting to see the correlation between the state run programs and abuses. First it was Maryland and now this. It sickens me to say this but perhaps on the whole the corporate run programs are more progressive. :scared:

What about BC?

D?æ???? you sound like someone who really cares about their child. I'm not here to tell you that you're a horrible parent for wanting what's best for your son, but you owe it to him to know exactly everything that's going on where he's at. You should be honest with yourself and ask if making your decision to send him there out of desperation and fear. If the main reason you send him there is because "you didn't know what else to do" or "he could end up dead / insane / in jail" then you should get him out of the program as fast as possible.

If your intent is to keep your child in A program no matter what a few red flags to look out for are:

- Using food as an incentive / punishment
- Using a "cool down" room
- Restricting access to the outside world
- Censoring letters (You may not know this is happening)
- Sparse phone calls, and revoking communication between you and your son should he get 'out of line'
- Revoking rights to go to class
- Keywords like "tough love", "Behavioral Modification", and "breaking them down to build them back up again"

Something to keep in mind though, is that even in totally beneficial rehab centers (I assume you sent him there for drug use) involuntary treatment seldom works for very long. Even if he graduates the program and is a model student it is a VERY likely possibility that he will try them again, and this time much harder substances. (increasing with how abusive the program might be, and how long he's trapped)

Until he has the desire within himself on his own to change, you're probably waiting your money that could be better spent towards a good education later on in life. If you take anything at all from what I'm saying it's this. Children do grow up. It might be a bit rough but families are not supposed to be easy. He has free will and he should be able to use it. Most of these programs try to take it away from them and replaces it with rules on how to think.

So, think about what's best for your son, investigate it more. Hear from BOTH sides, not just what the educational consultant and schools have to say. Talk to him, hear what he wants. Ultimately it's his life in there and if it was you, I think you'd want to have a voice in the matter.

I hope this helps.

The two explanations I've heard is the former, and it not being an acronym but shorthand for "see do". Chances are the latter's just a bunch of crap though.

Didn't I read that you are a Dominatrix?  Isn't "conformity" a big part of your lifestyle? Not being funny, just not a part of that sub-culture so just asking what the difference would be other than the obvious parent/child vs Dom/Sub.  "

This is one of the misconceptions that most people have about people in the D/S lifestyle.  It's a difficult concept to grasp, but BDSM isn't about abuse, it's about trust.  Granted if you're doing it as a profession and not a relationship it still has at its core the fact that it's consensual.

This is why forcing conformity upon someone who's unwilling is seen as stupid and dangerous.  It has everything to do with the context in which the actions are taken, not the actions themselves.  Another thing that is different is that emotional abuse seldom takes place.  It's about a loving relationship not one based on antagonism.

The easiest way I can explain it is BDSM is like sex, as Abuse is to rape.[ This Message was edited by: Invertix on 2005-04-29 09:57 ]

The Troubled Teen Industry / Why WWASP is so dangerous!!

One would think forced behavior modification would be dangerous to ANYONE, not just the clinically depressed.

Do you know when she's supposed to be released? If she's under 18 emancipation sounds like an option. Immediate counseling would be a good idea too. Chances are if she bought into the program she'll have a self image problem, if not then she'll probably be totally untrusting of anyone in authority.

Interesting concept Nihilanthic I hadn't quite heard it put that way before.  Freedom of purpose, from no purpose at all. ::read::

~sighs~
Pathetic.

Since they only allow people from within the state into the programs, and they're state run it complicates the federal government from investigating.

Religion isn't the problem here.  Most 'religeous' people would be horrified at what happens at some of these places.  It's just used as a form of social control.  If it wasn't religion then it'd be nationalism and serving the state.  If not nationalism then it'd be something else.

Trying to go after an ideology is fruitless because it's totally dependent on the other persons perspective and not on solid fact.  Honestly now does anybody think that if tomorrow the Mormons excommunicated the facalty at all these locations, it would change anything?
