Using Brainwashed Kids for Treatment Media Hype
www.unr.edu/educ/captta/mwattc/on-cours ... index.html (http://www.unr.edu/educ/captta/mwattc/on-course/Recovery/index.html)

The above link leads to a really scary online college course that teaches 12-step ideologues how to use brainwashed kids to front for them in the public eye as "grateful recovering addicts".  It is hosted by University Nevada Reno (UNR) and is funded throught the "Mountain West" Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) which is funded by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), and The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), and some local state funds.

Tax money is paying for all this!

There are about 14 Addiction Technology Transfer Centers around the country so far injected into state universities by the feds.  These Centers are a blatant effort to expand the recovery cults and fraudulent treatment even further.

Sorry, I meant that last to be a reply to this. Oh well, I came back to post after seeing what a git you got! This is fantastic. Don't miss the message board. The site might disapear pretty quickly, as most of the professor's websites seem to have. So I saved a copy of the whole site for reference. I'd sure like to see the answer to Atanothea Wake's question first, though.

If there's a worse idea going than locking kids up for victimless crimes, it's probably locking them in close proximity to some tyrannical altruist bent on helping them whether they need it or not.

I think that UNR webpage bulletin board is not monitored any more, but I might be wrong.  I have brought this damaging course to other's attention too, such as the Rational Recovery discussion group www.rational.org/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi (http://www.rational.org/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi)
and the 12-step-free discussion group groups.yahoo.com/group/12-step-free. The 12-step-free group's documents page has the course available as evidence in a zip file, I think without the pics. You'd have to join that group to get it.  I think both would be interesting for folks here.

I like your quote AntiG. Thanks.

Oh, Ginger, I see that's your name on the earlier post.

Yup, that's me :-) Thanks for the kudos. And thanks for another couple of good links for Anonanon.

Re: Using Brainwashed Kids for Treatment Media Hype

I've been doing some research on

The International Conference on Alcoholism and Addiction
www.icaa.ch/ (http://www.icaa.ch/)
and find it to be riddled with harmful treatment ideology.  One being Section 13. which is not unlike the UNR course website in the original comment.

Here's the copy from the Sections page:

13. Youth

Ms. Carmi Cimicata
Canada

------------------------------------------------------------

Focus:  Young people?s perspectives; how to involve young people in prevention and dissemination of information concerning dependence related issues.

endquote

What on earth does that mean?  First they create a huge stigma with the disease model, then they push their diseased children in front of the camera?  What a bunch of sickos! I actually heard one of these kids on C-span2 about a week or two ago.  I wish I could remember the event. It was truly sad.  It was billed as an anti-suicide crusade, but the real undercurrent was drug using.

Re: Using Brainwashed Kids for Treatment Media Hype
One of their stated goals is to destigmatize adolescant substance abuse... at least for those who view it as a terminal illness. The upshot of that, of course, is to stigmatize all who don't go along with Sembler flavored Hitler Jugen.

Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter. This promises to be interesting.
