What part of the program would incur expenses that high??  Are they going to fly the kids to visit the jails in Iraq?

How much time did you spend with this "licensed therapist"?

What about the direct caregivers?  Are they licensed?

"Great, you've made up your own god and religion, just like Joseph Smith"//

As opposed to joining your religion and your god? Don't you understand that she prays to the same god that you do, the same one that the Muslims do?

Your faith is much more similar to theirs than you know, and that is so sad that you cannot appreciate that.  You turn it into something negative, negativity NOT being from God (the original source of love), but from the other side ("satan", you would call it.  The original source of hate and fear).

That is what is so dangerous about churches.

Most sects of the Christian church is a cult- Mormons and Catholics alike.

They insist that their path is the only way to get to "heaven".

I am amazed at how many Americans compare everything to the bible, like that bible is the absolute and final truth.

I used to believe some of that, but the older and wiser I get, the more I understand the need to study other religions and philosophys, like Hinduism and Buddhism.

I guess that, for Christians, the major obstacle in searching for enlightenment or god or whatever, is that which has them thinking that anything that is not in the bible or related to Jesus is evil.

If the status quo will not tolerate programs that do not allow basic rights to be practised, then these programs will have to comply, or else not survive.

Anon-

Do you not think that you would have eventually just gotten older and grown out of it?  What program did you go to?

It has been my experience that Catholics and Jews are not out to convert people the same way that Mormons do.  Example-  Catholics and Jews do not normally go on "missions".

Not that there's anything wrong with that.  But don't be suprised if you go try to preach (under the guise of simply relief work) in a strictly Islamic land, then end up in jail.  It goes both ways, and you have to respect the law in other lands.

There is no baptismal pool IN PCS per say.  What happens is, the kids are offered the opportunity to attend Mormon services on Sundays.  Even the kids on "investment" unit (the bad girls) were allowed to go, unless they were in isolation.

From there, the missionaries who run the services offer to meet with kids individually, for bible talk or counseling or I'm not really sure what.  They would come in the evening, and the kid would be allowed to leave their unit to talk to the missionary for an hour or so.

I saw a good number of kids take them up on that offer.

The missionaries would also come and have BBQ and parties and stuff, but the only kids who could go were the ones who attended church.

After awhile, some of them would get baptised.  This would be done off the grounds of PCS.

I attended the services a couple of times, out of curiosity (I had never been to church other than Catholic church, which they only had once a month).  I was facinated at how the Mormon church provided the sacrament of communion to anyone who wanted it, because in Catholic church, you must first be baptised and study for awhile before you accept communion.

I told my therapist that I thought this was strange (he was a bishop or something in the Mormon church), and he agreed, and said that they should not be passing out communion like that.  But apparantely, it continued.

Really, I found the whole thing creepy, as my parents had been so certain that there was no religious affiliation at PCS, which was one of the reasons they sent me there.

After I left "program", I hung out w/ really trashy people for awhile... until my parents (well, my mother) really started to leave me alone.  Then I started to grow up and befriend more productive people, and become more productive myself.

I alway knew I would finish college, that I wouldn't have children while very young or unwed, that I would date decent people.  But while my mother was engaging in a power struggle with me (the story of my entire adolescence), one major way to assert my independece was to be friends with and date people who she wouldn't approve of.

Yes, this was a fruitless, unhealthy battle between me and my mother.  However, *she* was the adult, and should have known better.

Point is, once she left me alone, I did pretty well for myself.

At Provo Canyon School, I personally witnessed several kids convert to Mormonism, and get baptized (though PCS claims to be secular...such BS).

Is it illegal, or what to indoctrinate and baptize minors, regardless of how their parents feel about it?

Yes, most of the people who work at these places are sick!

The best revenge is to move on, live a healthy life, finish school, and continue spreading info about your experience.

Eventually, you will be more educated and grounded than those who work there, and you will really begin to see the extent of the damage inflicted by these people and their "program".  And your word will be more credible than theirs.

283
What kind of "program"?

If you think that both your child and the family would benefit from not living in the same house, then you should send the child to boarding school.

It cost less than a "program", is a healthier environment than a "program", and looks better on a resume.

All "counselors", or unit staff, or anyone who implements the program or evaluates the kid and their performance, MUST BE COLLEGE EDUCATED!  Even if it's just a liberal arts degree.  They must know the basics of psychological theory.

Perhaps the reason you don't hear of many "success stories" is because most people wouldn't credit a year at some fucked up reformatory with their being "successful".

Or maybe other former "students" of these places are too busy raising 12 kids on welfare, or maybe they are in jail or adult psychiatric facilities, or maybe they just don't have access to a computer.

Maybe others are still just as miserable as their programs made them.

I am a happy, productive, functional human being not because of PCS, but in spite of it.
