Freud thought religion was an illusion. He wrote a very funny paper on it once.  Christianity has been more of a problem in this world since Constantine brought it in in the 1300's.  We don't have a lot of control over our behavior unless we understand why we do what we do.  Sin is just a word.  We all have inner rage and anger at the world.  Like a therapist told me, "we all hate our parents, but some of us have more reason".  Our family taught us how to view the world.  We all have inner strength and a knowing of whats best for us if we can consciously tap into it.  Therapy can do this. Then you won't need an illusory power to help you.  You will be strong on your own and more human.

Hey does anybody else feel uneasy about Doc Phil?
I can't stand all the praise everybody says about him!!!  Mainstream America is always looking for a quick fix.  His berating people and saying "Get real" reminds me of drug treatment programs? There is no quick fix to long term behaviors, only being able to figure out where the behavior came from.

I believe that with a good psychotherapist(especially Freudian) that you can deal with those awful "wanting to die" feelings.  Straight didn't help you , and you already had that feeling before you even went in. It starts in childhood. Clarissa Pinkola Estes also has some good books out and some tapes that help. Psychoanalytic therapy is the best investment you will make on your life.  You will understand deeply why you do everything you do.

You know if you think about it, parents should have their kid look at this website before they put them in a program.  Instead of handing them over to someone else maybe a parent should take some time off work and follow the kid everywhere, confront him in front of others, take away every privelege he has, no phone calls, no mail, no music, one movie a week (if the parents feel like it),alarm your house,don't let them be outside for months,and then tell them if they don't like it guess what it'll be worse at Pathway!! And if they think that they have to be signed in, well Pathway tells the parents right up front that THEY WILL get the kid to sign himself in.
