In retrospect, Ralph Nader's theory in 2000 was that if the Republican's won,  they would be so high-handed,  arbitrary, and corrupt that there would be an overwhelming backlash of disgust.

Unfortunately, his predictions about the Republicans have been pretty much on the money.

But you're quite right,  to paraphrase that ol' favorite from typing class exercises,  now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their party -- any party except the Republicans!

Well, if you ask me....Bush thought this whole "WE GOT HIM" malarky was gonna be a shoe-in for the election....he captured the evil-doer..yada yada......notice how no one is even talking about Saddam anymore?  MJ's escapades get more front page CNN time than Saddam.  I think he expected the country to crown him the Hero of the Decade for his alleged "find"...which it seems to me was most likely staged......

I mean....they found Saddam in a little hole, in the dark, in the middle of nowhere......they found this guy, but they cant seem to find one single solitary weapon of mass distruction in the entire country?  My bet is that here before the elections, Bush is going to very conveniently find some of those too.....whether they exist in reality, we will never know.

I think Bush has a 50/50 chance....but I also think that if he is re-elected its gonna get so bad and so ugly, that the US will be primed and ready for the shift in voter perspective that is on the not too distant horizon.  The good ole boys are phasing out, and a more logical and open minded generation is about to become the driving force behind this country.......when that happens, I believe that violence and oppression of the people outright will be the only possible way to get someone like Bush  into office ever again......

I wont vote Democrat, I think those guys are just as bad....maybe not as bad yet, but they are all cut from the same cloth.  Not to mention it makes me ill to watch the news about the campaigning they are doing, and all I see are really old, really white, really sorry ass looking people wearing walking slacks and SAS shoes shaking hands with the candidates.  It only reinforces my opinion....these losers are preaching to an ever diminishing crowd.

I say vote Green, they wont win, but at the very least you wont be contributing to the other assholes.

I SO agree with this that it isn't even funny! I am, so far, a non-voter - and that's part of the reason!
Vote green, eh? I like the concept..even if they don't win THIS time...hmmm..

This is a system of governing and electing built on 2 parties.

As much as I loved (past tense) Nadar and as Green as I truly am. You might as well flush you vote down the toilet if you vote green.

I will vote for any democrat that runs.

But lets face it Bush is going to win. Because people are apathetic, stupid, react strongly to his jackass cowboy routine and the ones who don't don't vote.

It is sad, it is sick, and I am still all bent out of shape from watching his state of the union address last night.

Which I probably am the only 28 yr old in upstate NY who watched it.

you see, this is the problem, people bitch about the way the way country is run, but they either don't vote, or they throw their vote away on someone who is NOT going to win. i know, this is a democracy and you can vote for who ever you want, but obviously there are some flaws w/ the current system we are using and the majority of the populace are idiots stating that "god put bush in office" like that idiot in the south quoted last week!! if tou want a better country (and less to bitch about) then occasionally, youre gonna have to compromise a little, i mean c'mon, do we really want ol' killer in office another 4years???

uh huh God put Bush in office. And God should take him out now he is ready to go back to Texas!

Votes don't count in a "selection". Here's a funny.

Here's a dilemma for you ... This test only has one question, but it's a very important one.
Please don't answer it without giving it some serious thought. By giving an honest answer, you will be able to test where you stand morally. The
test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation, where you will have to make a decision one way or the other.  Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.

Please scroll down slowly and consider each line -this is important for the test to work accurately.

You're in Florida ... In Miami, to be exact. There is great chaos going on around you, caused by a hurricane and severe floods. There are floods
all around you. You are a CNN photographer and you are in the middle of this great disaster The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to
shoot very impressive photos. There are houses and people flying around you, disappearing into the water. Nature is showing all its destructive
power and is ripping everything away with it.

Suddenly you see a man in the water, he is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken away by the masses of water and mud. You move closer.  Somehow, the man looks familiar.

Suddenly you know who it is - it's George W. Bush!

At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him away, forever. You have two options. You can save him or you can take
the best photo of your life. So you can save the life of George W. Bush, or you can shoot a Pulitzer prize winning photo, a unique photo
displaying the death of one of the world's most powerful men.

And here's the question (please give an honest answer):

Maybe when Hilary runs in '08 the white house can turn back into one big orgy again?  Or close some more military bases and you passive dumb-asses can protect our rights and freedom?  Or better yet, just drive off the bridge and kill your mistress, yet to be voted back into office?  Oh, how I yearn to be a democrat...

there is something really dramatic about black and white............................

Wesley Clark or John Kerry seem to have the best chance at beating Bush.  I'm pulling for Clark.

But you're right -- anyone but Bush.  Even Lieberman, a Republican in sheep's clothing, is better than Bush.

Don't waste your vote here... vote Democratic.

Head Up- Reinstatement of the Draft

I urge you to read the article below on the current agenda of the federal government to
reinstate the draft in order to staff up for a protracted war on "terrorism."

Pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills S 89 and HR 163) would time the program so the draft could begin at early as Spring 2005 -- conveniently just after the 2004 presidential election! But the administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed NOW, so our action is needed immediately. Details and links follow.

If voters who currently support U.S. aggression abroad were confronted with the possibility that their own children or grandchildren might not have a say about whether to fight, many of these same voters might have a change of mind. (Not that it should make a difference, but this plan would among other things eliminate higher education as a shelter and would not exclude women -- and Canada is no longer an option.)

Please send this on to all the parents and teachers you know, and all the aunts and uncles, grandparents, godparents....And let your children know -- it's their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change! Please also write to your representatives to ask them why they aren't telling their constituents about these bills -- and write to newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they're not covering this important story.
*********

The DRAFT

$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS)budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as
June 15, 2005. SSS must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation.  Please see website: http://www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html (http://www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html)

The Pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide..
Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of Congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's
prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.
  http://www.informationclearinghouse.inf ... le5146.htm (http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article5146.htm)

Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and H.R. 163 forward this year, entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "To provide for
the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26]in the United States, including women, perform a period of military
service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the Committee on Armed Services.

Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era remember. College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the US signed a "Smart Border Declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, John Manley, and US Homeland Security Director, Gov. Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their cur-rent semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

FYI...a Google search using S -89 indicates that Senator Hollings has introduced a bill to reinstate the draft.

I won't post anonymously, and I'll stand behind my choice to vote for George W. in 2000.  I felt at that point like it was the lesser of two evils. (And yes, I'm one of those politically conservative southern Christian people that everyone seems to despise so much.  Sorry to break it to you.)

This time around, I doubt what I vote for Bush.  Not because I disagree with the war with Iraq, I think it was coming eventually, whether it was now with GW or later on with someone else.  I don't agree with the way that it was handled, and multiple other things that have happened, especially since 9/11.  And I think that John Kerry or John Edwards would probably do a good job of cleaning up the mess that's been made.  I'm vehemently anti-Hillary Clinton for a multitude of reasons, that are too numerous to go into here.  But I'm voting for the Democratic candidate myself most likely this time around.

I've considered voting Independent, or Green Party, but like someone mentioned before, basically all you do with a vote there is to make a statement.  If enough people that honestly believed the principles of the alternatives did vote their consciences, there might be a worthwile purpose.  But for me, for now, I'll just continue to choose the lesser of two evils, until something comes along that pushes me into another way of thinking.

I"m not saying Clinton was perfect, but DAMN....I think it's about time we DID have someone in the White House that enjoyed an occassional blow job or spliff.  Most of America has done the same at one time or another...I think it puts him a little more in touch (no pun intended) with reality instead of the fucking religious right wanting to have so much influence over how I should live MY LIFE. ::bangin::

Oh, and then there's that little issue called the ECONOMY.  Seems Clinton has got it all over Bush on that one.
