I'm not sure exactly how this stuff works, but could someone fill me in on why HLA is registered as two SEPARATE CORPORATIONS?

One is Hidden Lake Academy, Inc. - FOR PROFIT

The other is HLA, Inc. - NOT FOR PROFIT

How is this possible?  Sounds like a little shell game to me...

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / HLA Is Downsizing Staff?
« on: February 15, 2006, 02:33:00 PM »
Has anyone heard of any public reasons why Hidden Lake Academy is downsizing its staff?

Recently they have let go two teachers and a counselor who was just a few weeks shy of "graduating" his peer group (Bill White).

There have been rumors to the effect that HLA has become financially insolvent.  There are Ed Cons inquiring about HLA's financial stability and having reservations about placing more kids there.  There has been a persistent buzz that one of HLA's major financing sources may be going to cut them off from further funding.

Can anyone shed some light on these issues?

108
Take a look at this asshole's posts.

He posts in every goddamn forum about every goddamn program and supports them ALL - even the ones who KILL KIDS!

Do a search on this freak's posts and say what you think about him.

Gonna be some interesting reading about one of the most PERSISTANT pro-program Fornits trolls there ever was, who has recently had the bag pulled off his swollen, brain-dead head.

I'm looking for anyone who has undergone a psychiatric evaluation at HLA.

What tests were performed?  By whom?  What were the results?

Thanks.

Members of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) provide residential, therapeutic, and/or education services to children, adolescents, and young adults entrusted to them by parents and guardians. The common mission of NATSAP members is to promote the healthy growth, learning, motivation, and personal well-being of our program participants. The objective of all our therapeutic and educational programs is to provide excellent treatment for our program participants; treatment that is rooted in good-hearted concern for their well-being and growth; respect for them as human beings; and sensitivity to their individual needs and integrity.

In applying to become or continue as a member of The National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, we agree to:

Be conscious of, and responsive to, the dignity, welfare, and worth of our program participants.

This one must just be a joke to loosen up the reader.  A tension-breaker.

Honestly and accurately represent ownership, competence, experience, and scope of activities, and to not exploit potential clients? fears and vulnerabilities.

So, preying on the fears of desperate parents isn't acceptable?  How about the fake degrees and staff with absolutely zero experience that is turned over yearly?

Respect the privacy, confidentiality, and autonomy of program participants within the context of our facilities and programs.

How about using a child's statements from a private counseling session as a basis for punishing or humiliating them? Do they mean "autonomy" as in "Do what I tell you to do and do it now or you'll be very, very sorry!"?  Makes perfect sense in that context.

Be aware and respectful of cultural, familial, and societal backgrounds of our program participants.

Treat ALL kids like the rotten, lying druggies they are, regardless of race or creed.  What equanimity!

Avoid dual or multiple relationships that may impair professional judgment, increase the risk of harm to program participants, or lead to exploitation.

i.e. "Don't have sex with patients, or at least don't get caught by anyone other than us."

Take reasonable steps to ensure a safe environment that addresses the emotional, spiritual, educational, and physical needs of our program participants.

They can't be serious with this one, can they?

Strive to maintain high standards of competence in our areas of expertise and to be mindful of our limitations.

Like "Behavior Modification doesn't work to fix psychological problems, but let's just keep doing it anyway."

Value continuous professional development, research, and scholarship.

Even though we refuse to do any clinical research whatsoever to assess how our program works.

Place primary emphasis on the welfare of our program participants in the development and implementation of our business practices.

"Mo' money, mo' problems."

Manage our finances to ensure that there are adequate resources to accomplish our mission.

To wit, enriching ourselves.

Fully disclose to prospective candidates the nature of services, benefits, risks, and costs.

The punchlines just keep on coming, folks!  It's a laugh a minute!

Provide an appropriate professional referral if we are unable to continue service.

"We never met a case we didn't like and we never will."

With all that SELF REGULATIN' who needs legislation?

Commissioners hindering betterment of county

To the editor:

Dismay ... shock ... outrage. These are but a few words to describe my reaction to the news that the county commissioners have thrown up yet another roadblock to the proposal by Hidden Lake Academy to build a new facility, Mountain Brook Academy.

I am a relatively new resident of Lumpkin County, but I have followed this situation since it was first proposed. In addition, I have toured Hidden Lake and have seen first-hand what a great contribution it makes to the community and the benefits derived by its students.

It should be noted that my first visit to Hidden Lake occurred in late 2004 when the Dahlonega Woman's Club presented a candidate forum, generously hosted by Hidden Lake Academy.

Every person presently on the commission attended that forum and I heard each get up and promise that he/she would always act in the best interest of the county and its citizens.

I question how the recent actions of the commissioners in continuing to block HLA/MBA can be considered in the "best interest" of Lumpkin County.

At the commissioners meeting Nov. 17, Clarence Stowers presented an additional list of various items that he proposed be renegotiated before giving the go-ahead to the plan presented.

The development authority had already recommended acceptance of the original proposal, but NO, that wasn't good enough for the commissioners.

They asked the authority to go back and meet again to look into the new items being presented for consideration. It appears that MBA agreed to those stipulations, but, no, even that wasn't enough.

The commissioners are now asking for even more concessions from HLA/MBA.

Hidden Lake has been an asset to Lumpkin for the years it has been here. What plans do the commissioners have to make up the funds that would be generated by the new school should Dr. Buccellato decide not to proceed with Mountain Brook Academy? I listened to all five of you in Oct. 2004 and believed you would act in our best interest.

This commission is a "first" for Lumpkin County, going from a single commissioner to a commission of five persons. What a shame that you are prohibiting a good project from contributing to the betterment of Lumpkin County. I'm ashamed of all of you.

Sincerely,

Pat Wozny

Dahlonega

Please, do tell.  This will make a very interesting "armchair psychological profile" of an obviously deeply disturbed woman.

Maybe you've dealt with her in CEDU's parent seminars?

Maybe you've attended some classes with her at U of M?

Maybe you've heard what her son has to say about her?

Maybe you belong to the same Country Club?

Maybe you are friends with (or are) her ex-husband?

What can you tell about her son who left RMA in 1999?

This is certain to be a very interesting discussion.  Please try to stay on topic in this thread.  If your purpose is to flame Anne, please do it in the "Ottawa Sucks Moosecock" thread in the CEDU forum, as it won't be germane to our more thoughtful discussion here.

Thank you.

Are there any parents of HLA patients that want to discuss the lies they were told by HLA?

Did they tell you, perhaps, that they don't accept court-ordered kids?

That they don't strip search?

That they have never had incidents where staff members had sex with minors under their care?

That staff members who had sex with minors on campus would be/have been fired?

That the campus is drug free?

That the kids don't have intercourse with one another?

That they follow the guidelines of the accrediting agency?

That they are licensed to provide mental health care?

That they have never had any suicide attempts?

That the patients are supervised around the clock?

That they don't lock the patients inside the dorms at night, including locking widows and emergency exits?

That they don't use forced labor as punishment?

That they follow their own rules regarding sending patients to "wilderness"?

What have they told you that just wasn't true?

Tacitus' Realm / Sembler Raises Funds for Scooter Libby's Defense
« on: November 19, 2005, 09:13:00 AM »
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 00958.html

In anticipation of a lengthy and expensive court fight, a number of Republican former senators, former ambassadors and fundraisers are planning to raise $250,000 each and a total of $5 million for Libby's legal fund, according to people familiar with the plan. In a private conversation earlier this week, Republicans such as former ambassadors Melvin Sembler and Howard Leach promised to raise at least $250,000. Former senators Fred D. Thompson (Tenn.) and Alan K. Simpson (Wyo.) and former congressman Bill Paxon (R-N.Y.) are also part of the fundraising campaign, the sources said.

Please, let's use this more appropriate thread to banter with mindless trolls like Mrs. Bill Gray.

Carry on, people.  Carry on.

The Ridge Creek School / Hidden Lake Academy / Controlling the Dialogue
« on: November 16, 2005, 09:12:00 AM »
Sadly, once again the meaningful dialogue about HLA has been obfuscated by tangential discussion about Mrs. Gray, as is her intention.  The more people spend wasteful time arguing with someone as uninformed and ignorant as Mrs. Gray, the more the truth about HLA gets buried.

Here are some facts about Mrs. Gray that will hopefully help others avoid trying to have meaningful dialogue with her:

1.  She has no knowledge of how HLA's program is employed.
2.  She has never worked in a therapeutic capacity at HLA or anywhere else.
3.  She was married to an HLA employee and was a clerical staffer there as well.
4.  She has never seen a "Realizations" group or seminar of any kind.
5.  She has never been on a "wilderness" excursion.
6.  She has never interacted with any clients on any level deeper than cursory conversation such as exchanging pleasantries or the like.
7.  She puts on a dogmatic support of HLA even when proven wrong about particulars or generalities.
8.  She has no education or training regarding TC's and all of the information she does have about HLA's treatment methods is second-hand or anecdotal.
9.  She's capable only of ad hominem fallacies and never discusses debatable issues, as she lacks the cognitive horsepower and educational gravitas to do so.

Please, don't feed the trolls.
