Blinders still on I see.........
"I believe you and know that you have been traumatized and abused by those programs", Those programs?, um those programs you refer to are the pre-GT:

(Look carefully, you will see "Growing Together" on this chart how it was formed from Straight Inc.)

www.ex-cult.org/General/s...conditions

"GT has been open for over 15 years and presumably hundreds if not thousands of kids: we would see a lot more bad rap about 'them' in the net. I looked hard and all I saw was the opinion of one judge and one psychologist, nothing more." My God, what do you need to get this?, an atom bomb to drop on your head, they have been to the courts for ABUSE, a leopard doesn't change its spots, it just pays off its accusers. They, like Straight settled out of court in order to stay open and continue RAPING MINDS for profit. 15 years ago, Straight started closing down their centers across the country, the process took about 5 years, they were close down for what? ABUSE. But there was money to be made so individuals formerly involved with Straight, reopened up with different names using the same MIND RAPIST tactics.

Do you think we are PAID to be here giving out to you like this? This is a place for us, that were abused to get together and finally be able to talk about it amongst ourselves, and during all this, we come to realize that these places still exist, and we want to save each and every kid out there from experiencing what we did so they can at least attempt to grow from their experiences without having their minds turned to JELLY.

Blinders still on I see. That's OK, become guiltless, walk on water, that makes it easier, let that poor kid take the blame for everything and see what you get out of a son in 15 or 20 years, So he isn't perfect, he yells back, he boozes with friends or whatever, did you ever think he was just trying to reach out in his own way??? You obviously have a couple of bucks, money can even buy your kid a drug problem, what a country! Too bad now that your kid is behind a kind of Berlin wall where you are unable to communicate when you and him need it most...

When you get a shell shocked son back, here is a note of encouragement, he will always have these websites to come to, thank you for helping to turn out a new generation of Stefford Zombies.....Think about it please.

Take off the blinders before it's too late.........
Ok, like Ginger was saying I was in Straight Cincinnati, I was put in there 19 years ago Oct 16th, 1982, a year or so before junior was born and I haven't had a substance since. I "graduated" from there and went on with my life trial and error like everybody else. The only difference was that I was contacted by a former Straight Parent whose kid got abused terribly and will have to be in special care for the rest of his life because of the type of "therapy" he received.

This man did his homework and educated me how Straight Inc. and its spin-offs destroyed thousands of families and made millions at it. I already provided you with his link in my last post to you, I will add that everything he wrote down in that website can be backed up with legitimate sources. I found out by reading up on all these sites that I was experiencing PTSD in the ways of nightmares, flashbacks, depression, and unnecessary guilt for starts. I blamed myself for everything that was ever wrong with my family. That's is what those so-called "therapeutic" places teach. They make YOU the parent faultless and stick all the blame in the world on your kid. That's a hell of an incentive to keep your kid there. They tell you your kid is manipulative and label him a "druggie", when all the time they are the true manipulators and have had literally 30 years in its current state to perfect to work the most to their advantage.

In one ear and out the other??? Now frankly, I don't suffer one bit no matter what you decide to do, the damage done to me all those years ago is done, I am only doing this for your kid, trying to save at least one person from experiencing what I did by simply telling you the truth. Verbal abuse is the worst form, your kid can not have any privacy and therefore can not escape it, because it is drilled in him from the early morning when he wakes up, till late at night when he goes to bed, no brakes from it ever, this is BRAINWASHING. They will tell him how worthless he is, how he screwed everybody over. Over and over again he will hear these statements they continually made in his mind until he actually believes it himself. he will lose reasoning ability because of this, you will become blameless and he will become blameful in his mind. Essentially you are allowing them to intervene in his natural ability to make mistakes on his own and learn from them as part of becoming an adult. If you allow them to manipulate you daily (as they will do) to keep you kid in there telling you he will be dead without them, then that's on you, consider yourself warned, you have to live with falling prey to their manipulation of your family situation, and you have to live with the decision you make of what you do about it, not me.

How are those parent group discussions these days? I agree with Ginger, I bet they are leaving you alone now, just give it a little time, soon you will be confronted for even questioning them at GT by having the audacity to talk to us heathens. I think your trying to make yourself "right" no matter what you came on telling us all these things wrong with your son, nothing about what was wrong with you, or others in your family that contributed to dysfunction, it was ALL him, Ok, sure.

If I seem impassioned about this topic, good, I have seen a lot in these last 19 years most of those who were on staff telling me what to do without question are back using drugs, so much for that once boasted 75% success rate they were promoting all those years ago. Some are dead. Some are getting along OK, but are in therapy, wonder why they need therapy? Some are drinking, some aren't, a lot still believe they have drug problems, maybe some really did, but does that mean that everybody that went in there had a "problem", or were the majority of people in there from upper income families that afford to be there and pay the high price.

Oh yeah, why don't I use? I take a bit of medicine now and then and a good adult decision would be not to use any substance while taking medicine, you want the best healing advantage you can get, so how about that, an adult choice has been made without the "help" of Straight Inc., or GT.

Thank you for writing,

I hope you have had the chance to see the police report about Growing Together at the following link. Its contents concern a sex abuse charge. Scroll down a bit over halfway down and look for the heading "Sex abuse and rights of children in Florida rehab programs", there are 5 further links concerning that police report. I hope that tells you something about Growing Together that the ones running it didn't want you to know. I would implore you to MAKE yourself find other options for your troubled kid. These people are not the answer, don't let them sucker you in anymore saying to you they are it, the only ones that can "help" you kid. The methods they use to "fix" your kid require extreme mental abuse him leaving him shell shocked with lifetime nightmares and perinea, and falsely guilt-ridden for life, you will take what ever problem there was with him before and only add more to his already long list.

Hard to believe that Betty Sembler turned 70 recently. The indefatigable wife, mother, activist and philanthropist soon will add another title to her string of accomplishments: chatelaine of the American Embassy in Rome, once the Senate confirmation comes through for husband Mel Sembler's appointment as ambassador to Italy.

Her daughters-in-law, Liz, Debbie and Diane Sembler, invited several hundred friends to a birthday luncheon for Mrs. Sembler, commandeering Gratzzi, the Italian restaurant at BayWalk, for the occasion.

Iris Salzer and Hazel Hough walked from their downtown condominiums; Mrs. Hough is just back from a summer in Aspen, Colo., with husband Bill. Lawyers Pam Campbell and Evelyn Kuttler sat with Judge Irene Sullivan, who could only stay through the salad. Joyce Baker's husband, Rick Baker (the mayor of St. Petersburg, by the way), was dining at another BayWalk restaurant and stopped by to wish Mrs. Sembler a happy birthday.

Sembler gave a lovely tribute to his wife, recalling their first meeting on the campus of Northwestern University when she was 19, followed by one from longtime friends of the Semblers, sisters Marilyn Benjamin and Sonya Miller.

Also in the crowd were Jane Silverberg, Ramona Updegraff, Evelyn Bilirakis, Judy Davis, Ellen Merkow, Janet Root, Elaine Hearn and Margo Fischer.

A nice touch: Instead of gifts, guests made donations to the Drug Free America Foundation, which the Semblers founded, one of many worthy causes they have supported through the years.

That Betty Sembler has so many true friends and a loving family is no surprise. Among all the people I meet, she has always been special to me. Her warmth, kindness and total lack of pretention shine through. I wish her many more happy birthdays.

News from the committee planning Pavilion, the uber-gala in Tampa on Nov. 3 to benefit the Tampa Museum of Art: Ladies' Spa Day, a sort of gala warmup (gotta get those pores steamed open), will be held at Marcelina on Oct. 20, says Mary Perry.

Marcelina is a new private club for women expected to open in October, the newest venture by businesswoman Maureen Rorech Dunkel, who gained fame by amassing a collection of dresses worn by the late Princess Diana. She used the dresses to raise thousands of dollars for charity.

Mrs. Perry said she expects the event to sell out quickly, like Pavilion itself, which she said will probably top out at 600 patrons. The lucky few who attend Ladies' Spa Day will be treated to the expected range of services - massages, manicures, hair stuff - and more this year. Marcelina will stock Valentino's couture line, so you can pick up your ball gown at the same time. For information, call (813) 286-8659.

The annual Affaires d'Art pamphlets are out, with a menu of fun parties, hosted mostly by Stuart Society members, to benefit the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. They include cooking classes with local chefs, card parties, and miscellany such as a luncheon entitled Figure Faux Pas and Fixes, Proportion in Dressing. For information, call 866-0202.

Two dates to add to the On the Town Calendar are the gala benefiting St. Anthony's Health Care on April 27 and the Heart Ball on Feb. 16, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association.

The committee for the Heart Ball met Thursday for its marching orders, and tall ones they are. The group's goal is to raise $200,000 at the party. The Heart Association has its own ambitious goal, to reduce heart disease and strokes by 25 percent by 2010. The ball's goal, at least, seems doable. The steering committee includes well- connected community folks such as Bill Heller and Sue Brody, who are co-chairmen and know how to fill tables.

Still, said Heller, "It's going to be a little uphill this year. When the economy is down, the sponsorships drop. But we'll get there; it's a good cause."

The venue is Hangar One at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport so, of course, the theme is aeronautical. Dress code is black tie optional and tickets begin at $200. More on both parties later.

LOOKING AHEAD

Today

AN AFTERNOON OF JAZZ AND ART: Members of the St. Petersburg affiliate of LINKS, the prestigious national organization of black women, host a fundraiser at Sunken Gardens to benefit local Boy Scout troops. Several groups will perform, authors will sign books, and there will be art and photography displays. With refreshments. 5-9 p.m. 1825 Fourth St. N. $25.

Saturday

CHILDREN'S DREAM FUND 20TH BIRTHDAY PARTY: A big cake with candles at International Plaza marks the occasion and launches a new name for the organization, formerly the Suncoast Children's Dream Fund, that arranges "dreams" for seriously ill children. Among the activities is a build-a-bear workshop to benefit the fund. Cake will be cut at noon. 2223 N Westshore Blvd., Tampa. 892-6737.

unfortunately . . . reply
Agreed,

9-11 (note that my original post here was dated 9-10) was amongst one of the things giving Sembler the break that needed in order to avoid flack from us. It also helps I think to have millions to buy off politicians everything from quietly and hastily shoving a nomination (ambassador to Italy) process through Senate, along with making part of the ballot process SECRET, a previous ambassadorship (Australia) under your belt, yep, goes to show money can buy you anything, even blood money. Says a lot about some of your leaders doesn't it?

172
Mel Sembler, the next U.S. Ambassador to Italy?, No way Jose

I wrote the President today, hey I'm an American, it's my right too.....

ATTN: President Bush

                or

To whom it may concern,

If anybody there in the Whitehouse really cares about us (the people that pay taxes for your stay there), then please read and comprehend the following........The Whitehouse staff and the Presidents latest move "intending" to nominate Mel Sembler as the next United States Ambassador to Italy had me (being one of those 12,000+ "graduates" of Straight) thinking "well this is perfect....now I've seen everything".

I read that press release you sent out and wondered to myself how is it that Mel Sembler who founded a program like Straight Inc., would be made a U.S. Ambassador again after our government knowing full well that Straight Inc., by the early 1990's was an abusive "drug treatment center" harming tens of thousands of young people throughout the country, which inevitably caused the Straight program to close down in disgrace? I can safely state that this was an abusive "drug treatment center" harming tens of thousands of young people throughout the country because some of  that abuse I personally witnessed, some of these young people came out of there suing those (people who ran straight) that had enough emotional strength to face their attackers.

Now I will say this, personally I don't care how close the Bush and Sembler families have been to one another over the years, there are things the Semblers along with others who were involved with Straight Inc., need to answer for to the public via THE PRESS, which our group is more than happy to help the press out with. There are families torn apart as a result of Straight, there are people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of Straight. We are talking about suicides absolutely disproportionate to the population in general of people who were in Straight that took their own lives, we are talking about physical abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse, and in some cases, even sexual abuse.

The next time you run a press release boasting over the 12,000+ "graduates" of Straight Inc., well think again on that statement because a lot of people like MYSELF of these 12,000+ that "graduated" Straight Inc. believe it was all a lie and a few people got very rich at the expense of all of us who suffered way too much trauma at the hands of a few, and I can tell you that thanks to the Sembler's and Straight Inc., I've had all the "help" I can stand for one lifetime.

Of course our group has taken action, when and if this nomination becomes official and is laid on the table before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, you better keep in mind that EVERY Senator that serves on that committee has been notified about our concerns by email, letters, and phone calls. I should also mention that we are also informing even our respective senators that represent our states about this intent. We will not give up, don't expect passive behavior here, we will get out the word on this irresponsible action if it does occur.

Now I suggest that you start reading up on the following links that tell the truth about Straight Inc. and the Mind Rape Mill for profit that it really was, because the press is already being notified about this and your going to need to figure out a crafty response, good luck:

Have a nice day.

"My question to you is why are you against taking 13 year old girls off the street? Where do you think they should go? Maybe you can help let them die in the gutter."

Nice try, real nice try.......

I'm against AARC getting bloodstained hands on any young person period, they are nothing but mind rapists and some day I hope there is an international law prohibiting place like Straight and AARC from "treating" youth anymore.

"No I am not Dr.Vause and I would like to know why you are so bitter to me.I don't know you."

Don't matter to me who you are, WHAT you are tying to advocate embitters me, because its plain child abuse, turning a mind to mush is just plain sick.

I work off the pain in my heart by going after you sick people. If you are truly a victim of one of these sick places, then forgive me, you really don't know what you are doing..

72 Hour law a.k.a chump
I bet your "gr8ful2aarc", they probably fill your pockets daily. Could you be another "Dr." Vause alias, or just a recruited "fan"?, in either case, I have a question regarding the  quotation:

"The 72 hour law is to take child prostitutes off the streets to get them away from their pimps. This has nothing to do with AARC or any other treatment center.AARC has not received any one through this but thanks for coming out."

Who sponsored this bill? I want everybody's name that was involved with this bill, don't leave out a sole either, because we will find what you leave out......

Anybody out there know who all was behind it?

It was good seeing all of you guys too. Everybody seems to be coming along well despite Straight. I was glad about that.
