CEDU / Brown Schools and derivatives / clones / Smushing?
« on: March 15, 2006, 02:01:00 PM »
Good to know I wasn't the only one who felt molested at CEDU.  I remember one staff member in particular who would press his ding-a-ling on my thigh when he hugged me.  Dude really needed to invest in a few pairs of boxers.  I mean, I'm all for going comando style but I don't want to feel some 30+ y/o loosers pecker on my leg through his pants every night.

...and all the while I was getting reamed in raps for stuff like having good posture (according to Pam I was obviously sticking my tits out in an attempt to seduce the boys!)

I was at CEDU RS from 1994 tp 1995.  What would you like to know?  Lisa...long blonde kinda fluffy hair?  Total sweetheart? Loved horses?  Oh God, if that was her...she was my friend.

CEDU / Brown Schools and derivatives / clones / Smushing?

For those who haven't been to CEDU, smushing is a candy term for forced physical contact (cuddling, caressing, etc.) with staff and other students.

What on earth was that all about? Would someone explain that to me please?  It gives me the creeps just thinking about it.  Blech!

Another case of medical neglect, not surprising to me.  When I was at Ascent I was forced to do our 3 hour morning PT with a 102 degree fever and a UTI.  I was denied anitbiotics or even a doctors visit.  Sadistic jerks.

I am seeking volunteers in the Houston area for a fundraiser benifiting one of the anti-abuse organizations of which I am a member.  If you are in the Houston area and want to help out, please PM me.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Binge drinking
« on: March 03, 2006, 01:40:00 PM »
According to my shrink, someone who drinks more than 2 drinks in one sitting and/or more than 10 drinks in one week is a heavy drinker.  He did not specify how much alcohol is in "one drink".  So in theory one can start ordering quad-shots at the bar and drinking wine out of big-gulp cups from the gas station when at home, and not be considered a heavy drinker, right?  The 64 oz. beer should pass by the same logic.

Geez, I hate that crap.  I had an in school suspension from class at CEDU because I asked a question that the teacher couldn't answer.  He felt embarressed in front of the other students so he took me to a rap and actually cried about it.  :cry2:  Needless to say, I was reamed for 45 minutes by the other students because of the incident.

Why are you teaching a class if you yourself don't know the material?  Ah, quality education at its best...[ This Message was edited by: Angel Lux on 2006-03-03 10:31 ]

It seems like there are some mixed feelings out there about the idea.  The book would have to be totally on a volunteer basis, ofcourse.  We'd also need permission from the authors for any stories taken off the net.  I'd hate to violate anyones trust here.

The Troubled Teen Industry / proposed solution

Yeah, I figured the trust thing would be an issue, along with the fact that people are often times uncomfortable with publicizing their experiences.  It's a very personal matter.  Oh well, there's no harm in throwing around a few ideas for the purpose of activism against child and teen abuse.

I relate to many of these posts.  Because of my lack of ability to adhere to social standards post-CEDU, those who get to know me look on me as a bit ?off?.  In fact, people call me crazy all the time.  It's supposed to be a term of endearment amongst my friends, but it bothers me that I'm viewed as abnormal for reasons beyond my control.  Otherwise, I appear to live a fairly normal life on the outside (job, condo, boyfriend, hobbies, whatever), but internally I struggle with many symptoms reminiscent of PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc.

Innate or traumatized?  Possibly a combination of the two, but I know one thing for sure: CEDU hurt me more than it helped.[ This Message was edited by: Angel Lux on 2006-03-02 12:18 ][ This Message was edited by: Angel Lux on 2006-03-02 12:19 ]

The Troubled Teen Industry / proposed solution

Funny, I just said something about this on another thread (the one about being disappointed with "Help and Any Cost").  Here's my idea: instead of sending our stories to CPS, lets put them together and publish a book.  We need about 50 stories and a trustworthy project coordinator.  Anyone interested?

Any publicity bringing awareness to institutionalized child abuse is helpful.  However, I do agree that the book does not leave the common reader with a "we need to do something to stop this" mentality.  I'd like to see a compilation of survivor stories published: maybe give each contributor 1-5 pages to write about a specific experience or two.  Imagine 50 different personal stories, some with parallel themes but each still describing a one-of-a-kind, personalized walk through a living nightmare.  It would be very powerful.
