Title: anyone remember from dallas
Post by: PerfectStraightling on December 10, 2004, 04:48:00 PM
I was just thinking about all the people I was in Straight with (1989), does anyone else remember:
Christina, or Christie (?) a young blonde girl, the youngest girl there (besides some 10-year-old boy they stuck in there who was obviously a hard core drug user). She may have had a mowhawk, I think she did, but she was really like 13 or something.
Jana T., who was sick a lot
Laura, the girl from australia, actually I think she got pulled while I was there
Sasha, a really REALLY tall girl, like 6 ft, and skinny, with brown hair
Jennifer P.
Stacey, gymnastics girl
Lori B...
Marilee K. who I vividly remember one night when they brought her back after copping out
I think there was a Carmen, who had brown hair and skinny
That's all I remember for now.
Carmel, or anyone who was there after me, did you know any of these people?? What were the goings on there after I left?? I am just curious.
People on staff I remember:
Craig M.
Steve B.
Stephanie P.
Shelly B.
Shelly's boyfriend

I ran into Steve B in prison and he turned out to have a total case of amnesia regarding his being a Sr Staffer...
He singlehandedly destroyed what little self esteem I had at 12....and now hes a fat little man thats in and out of jail ...
  Pathetic...

15 years removed from Straight and for some reason in the last 6 months I've thought about that place a lot...so I looked around the net and found this place...One thing is for sure I was twice as bad when I got out and it took me another 6 years to get my life under control...of course I didn't graduate so that must have been the problem.  I remember Barnes...we were in a host home together when he was brought back from his escape....I go back and forth on if I'd ever like to hook up with some of the people I knew then...When I was in there (Irving)Garrett, Justin, and those guys were running all the raps...A couple of people I would like to see is a guy named Chris McNeil (I think) and a host mom named Ms. Horn in Arlington...she was great to me....I'm going to ease in this forum...I don't know what the rules are (maybe name dropping isn't smart.)  For soem reason I have some unresolved things to work through in this area...

Jane, I remember a lot of those folks...I spoke with Sasha when I got out once...years ago of course...I remember when she came in...so many names and so many memories...I swear I can still hear some of those "reaching out" comments made....When my folks were checking me out of there I told Ms. Patito that Ron Bowden (who I ran into at a Cure concert right after I got out)was one of the only people I ever respected in that place...years later I know that isn't true....we were all just pawns...the jr. and Sr. counselors I couldn't stand, the 5th phasers..everyone was just acting out of a pier pressure approach that left us all confused....I was from Midland, and there were a lot of Midlanders who found their way there....Straight had some good Marketing there I guess.

The names Garrett Justin and Barnes (C.) are very familiar, I just can't picture these guys. I know they were there though. And I remember someone named Horn. I understand how you can have some unresolved issues, LOL. I completely remember the Midland phenomenon. It seemed like a lot of the girls were from Midland, I think I remember people joking about how they must just all be drug addicts there. Or maybe that's just what I was thinking lol. What a trip.

Now i'm thinking sasha was someone else...or there were two. I remember one very very tall and russian looking girl, and then I also remember a short girl with beautiful black hair, she had no bangs and I thought she was lucky they didnt cut them for her. I remember asking her if she liked industrial music, kind of knowing I was treading on shaky ground. But still, I didn't cross the line!! (Heaven forbid) Or did I? Was there some rule about glamorizing things, maybe I was doing that. She was my newcomer when she first came in. I saw her a few times a few years later at some dance clubs. I don't remember what we talked about.

Glamorizing was a huge 'No No'....Sasha is the one you referred to as Russian looking.  Of the girls side (and in my time) I remember Mary, Christina (the girl misbehavior) , and that seem to be it.   I should remember many more of them....but all I remember is being constantly told, "You better not be fantasizing about the girls side!".....Who knows?  I met a girl a few years later named Sessy who had been in there after me...we became good friends...I don't think any of our other friends understood a word of what we were talking about when we'd be telling each other to 'stop glamorizing" or that the other was "FOS"....funny.   The only girl I councilor I recall is Shelly (I think was her name)....she always looked so pleasant I could never imagine her being all drugged up...she was the only one who seemed sympathetic to the fact that I had been frozen on my days?.when I stood up and said my name is ___________ day 12 total days 75?I still didn?t even get what frozen was all about?.

I thought I would ask again since many more ex-Dallas STRAIGHT people have come across the site since the last time I posted...

Does anyone know of any specific KIDS (El Paso, North Jersey, and/or Greater Salt Lake City) teens that were admitted to the Dallas STRAIGHT program after the KIDS facilities closed?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Jane:

I do remember all of those girls' names except for Chritie.  Jana T. was full of it.  She was peeing on herself all the time.  I felt really sorry for her and I found out within the past year that shortly after I escaped, she got honest about that.

Lara hung out with both of the Todds T. for awhile.  Don't remember much about that.

I did Sasha's intake.  She had some trouble with the law and I remember having to escort her to juvie court a couple of times.

Jennifer P. had a lot of psychological problems.  She was from Athens too, like I was.  I heard that she got really punk when she left Straight and back into hard drugs.  I don't think I was surprised at all to hear that.

Stacey E. was one of the Midlanders.  I heard that she commenced the program.

Lori B. went home with me on my 4th phase weekend.  I don't know what happened to her.

I saw Marilee K. after she commenced.  It was very weird and she was rather distant to me.  We had been best friends in the program, so I was disappointed.  She was living with Lane at the time.

And as for Carmen, she was my oldcomer for awhile and she was the biggest bitch next to Jen L.  Her mother was a nasty freak and the host home was always filthy and cockroach infested.  We never had anything than plain peanutbutter sandwiches for lunch.  Carmen is one person that I would be happy never seeing again in my life.

I guess I was FOS after all!! I remember a lot more of the girls than the guys because of the same rule, don't look at them, don't fantasize about them, etc. I do remember a guy Brian L. (I saw him a couple of years later) and the 10-year old KID that was in there, not sure what his name was, I remember Jason P., and a few other names are familiar but can't place the faces. Chad Barnes I heard all the time in there. I remember some guy who came in saying he was about to turn 18, and then when he supposedly did, he walked out. The staff told us that it turned out he was lying about his age. Yeah Shelly was very nice to me too, she pulled me out when I was frozen and talked with me, it really did help. Not much in there made a lot of sense.[ This Message was edited by: jane on 2004-12-21 10:38 ]

Laura was pulled
Lori B commenced.  She moved back to Mabank eventually and is now married with two children.
Carmen Y never made it past 3rd, that I know of.
She was always getting confronted and setback.
Jana T got pulled.
that is all I can remember or know about the girls you posted

I am pretty sure that Heath D and Lael got married or at least I know I heard that somewhere

Jane, I remember you too, long red hair. God, I felt sorry for you when you first came in, you looked so scared and rightly so. I also remember Christina and she did have a mohawk, I thought she was cool. God, those days were so weird and such a part of my life, I was there for nine months and escaped 4 times. I try and tell people about it today and they just look at me, you really had to experience it. I hear they are making a documentary about it, that should be intersting. How are you now?

Lori B was married to Will W, he was on here some time ago, as I understand it they were married but are no longer.

Lael and Heath I think did get married, but long ago I heard there was some domestic violence issues going on and I dont know if they still are.  I have a personal grudge against her anyway as she was Satan's minion and my permanent host sister in Straight.  Forgive if I dont wish that situation well.

I stand corrected, you are right...it was Lisa Speer.  I guess I could have sworn that Will mentioned they were no longer married when he posted this last year.

Fresh beauty opens one's eyes wherever it is really seen, but the very abundance and completeness of the common beauty that besets our steps prevents its being absorbed and appreciated. It is a good thing, therefore, to make short excursions now and then to the bottom of the sea among dulse and coral, or up among the clouds on mountain-tops, or in balloons, or even to creep like worms into dark holes and caverns underground, not only to learn something of what is going on in those out-of-the-way places, but to see better what the sun sees on our return to common everyday beauty.

I remember the name Horn, I think I remember your mom for some reason. I appreciate your compassion--I was terrified. I remember my first day I made a couple of vows. One of which was to never sing the ridiculous songs that everyone was singing in group. Well suffice it to say I forgot all about that vow. Yeah I totally liked Christina, she was very fun and she got me to talk out with her one night. Of course I felt guilty so I cleared it up the next day, but it was fun anyways. Yeah I have been waiting for the documentary to get finished for a while. It is weird to think back on straight now and to be able to have some amount of perspective. How are you nowadays?

I'm good! I got married in August, finished film school last month and now working as an assistant editor on commercials. Life has been interesting for sure. I'm glad to have found others to chat with about the experience, it's amazing actually, I'm not much of a chatroom kind of guy, but to connect w/ fellow straight people, it's cool. I don't drink and haven't for two years, let's just say, I wasn't very good at it. For the most part, I live a simple, quite, rather healthy lifestyle here in Portland, Oregon. I have plans to write a screenplay about my experiences in Straight, so I'm very excited to watch the Documentary. How are you and what are you up to?

Yep - D is me, Daryl, I was suprised you recalled. Whats going on Jim?  I ain't kidding you, it felt good to see your reply.  I remember one night you escaped and I had the wide open out myself, because Patrick was giving chase (which seemed so crazy because you had a big jump on him and that was your stomping grounds)...your mom was real upset...she was always really good to me and asked me to stay....I just sat at the table.  I hated that moment many nights, but it was worth it.  Yur mom was the best to me.  How is she?

Oh, a screenplay, that sounds interesting! I am a big supporter of anyone who is willing to speak out about their experiences there. Did you read about the Montel show that was taped recently? I have a hard time believing that people will really take it seriously, but still maybe some will. Plus apparently some of these places are still open so I feel pretty badly about kids that may STILL be going through that type of insanity. Well I am good, lets see...I work in publishing, I am also in school at the moment. I still am in the Dallas area although I lived in Austin for a long time. I went 2 years without drinking, then gave that up and now it really isn't an issue for me one way or the other (thank god). It is a trip to talk to people on here, I found this site I guess last April and it was really very strange. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to talk.

Wow, it's really good to connect, D. I was looking on the internet and found your post about my mom. I stopped everything I was doing and called her. It was the night before new years and she had just come to visit me in Portland for Christmas, which we had an awesome visit. I told her what I had found and she started crying.....She said, it really touched her. And, yes, I agree she is really cool, and she still is  Sorry, I know these things are silly. So, anyway.....I called her and we were like, D.  who is D? And it struck me, that you stayed at my house for a long time. I said, your name and she said, I bet your right..let me know if the person writes back, she will be so happy! That's cool that she came to your mind out of all the people we cycled through....God, what a nightmare that was, huh? Let's stay in contact, please!! Write back

I had no intentions of gossiping about anybody, I was mainly interested in hearing about what had happened to the people I remember from straight. I think there is a difference between gossiping about people and wanting to know what happened to them. I have been fairly careful about this, I think. I do think it's important to be mindful of this though.

Jim,
Yea, your mom was great to me.  I often have thought about giving her a call to see if she wanted to do lunch sometime.  I was at your house a lot...I can't count how many times I cleaned that kitchen.

When I got out of there I became 100% worse off than when I went in (does that sound familiar to anyone).  Coming from Midland we knew how to party, but after I got out I stayed in Dallas...and lets face it, there is  lot of trouble if your looking for it in Dallas.

Ocassionally I'd come accross somebody (Mike - who was 12 when he went into straight, Chris McNeil, Sasha, Keith House, Ron Bowden) but there are many who'd I'd like to see again.  I did see your mom when I got out but like I mentioned before - at that time I was on my way to my deep end.  I'm 9 years off the drugs now...without any help from Ms. Petito (can anyone still say their Chain of Command?) or any other Straight leaders help.  Lets keep in touch Jim...

Anyone know what happened to either the Todd T's?

No, when I got out my parents had relocated to Dallas.  I've been here pretty much ever since. It took me a whole day to meet someone and get high after I got out....Straight only had made me more bold I guess...I think I thought the worse was all behind....I was wrong.

I'll never forget the good times I had in Midland...I still go back (my oldest daughter lives there and I married a girl from Odessa.

Timmy

Who is Dean Williams...I remember a Dean from back in Midland but I can't picture....I knew one that I met through Brian Carolton and Charlie Johnson...years ago. Not sure if it is the same guy.  I appreciate the info on Corkey...I'm going to try and stop by and see him.  So what are you doing in CO Springs?  Did you know Menstral from Irving?  Someone told me he is in prison now.

I remember you well...so did my Dad...which they are planning on moving to CO Springs as well.  You graduated the program right?  I knew a lot of Midlanders who went but not many who graduated (Keith House after I left and Allison Isabel before I got there are two of the one two I can think of).  It's good to know your still out there.  You ever come to Dallas give me a call.

That is the same Dean.  I lived with him in Dallas 2000 - 2001 while attending University of North Texas and working for the Dallas Cowboys.

Inked at Ground Zero is in Midland.  If your referring to Brian Walker he's living in Dallas.
A lot of that group has moved back and forth between Dallas and Midland. I ping ponged the two a bit myself.

Here in Colorado Springs I play with a band called Porn Junky.   http://www.pornjunkyusa.com (http://www.pornjunkyusa.com)
This weekend we're recording an oi song simply
called "The Straights"

I went to Straight from Culvar in Midland.  My court deal was to finish.  All of my 4th and 5th phase visits home included a visit to the probation office.  I graduated and worked as Trainee for a few months.  I remember Keith and Allison.  Allisons brother Hunter finished long before I got there.

I can talk to who ever I want, read whatever I want to read. I can listen to music. Yall remeber having all this for the first time after Straight? The feeling was kinda scary. Tim - Yea, Kieth House was cool, we didn't hang around the same folks before STRAIGHT, but the day they brought him in and asked us if we had done drugs together we both lied and said no....I saw him after he commenced and he told me that was one of the lies he never confessed to...I didn't know Hunter, but hung with Allison several times when she got out.  She went to college in Colorado and I heard even got high, but as long as I knew her she never touched the stuff (after STRAIGHT that is)....Did you know Schneil (can't remember his real name  other than neil) - he told me he was in STRAIGHT and we even talked about it, but I have never found anyone who was in there at the same time as him.  I haven't seen a lot of that Midland crowd in years...but I hung with a lot of the Odessa crowd and many of them are in Austin.  I do remember you being on Staff or maybe 5th phase going to Staff, when I came in....I think you took me aside and talked to me and told me my Dad was your teacher...is that right?  I also think we partied together at that guy who called himself Slash (and was pretty crazy) house...is that right?

Sneal, Neil Burleson lives in Albuquerque.  Last I saw him was in 1994.  Sonshine and T-Bird were living in Albuquerque then also. In 1990 Corky and Smeg were on the run, so I took them to stay with Sneal in Roswell.  I was on 5th phase trainee when he went in.

Slash, John Stout was one of my best friends before straight.  We might have partied at his house together.  I partied there a lot.  We went to jail together shortly after straight on New Years.  He moved around a bit and is now in Midland.  He owns Stout Construction.  He's a cool guy.  Too bad Guns~n~Roses stole his name.

The straight op moved to Irving a week after I graduated in Richardson.  I remember you being there and seeing your dad in an open meeting or something.  Your dad did me right at Alamo, he was a cool teacher.

I have so many excruciatingly vivid memories from just after straight. I remember putting on makeup for the first time, being outside and feeling the sun on my face. I remember picking out clothes to wear. I remember hanging out with these punk-rock people that I just met while I was a runaway, and I started telling them about how self-centered I used to be...They looked at me like where the hell did she come from? It was freaking hilarious. I just thought, well they are obviously full of it or something like that. What was wrong with me. One other thing I remember is after I went back to school, I couldn't figure out how to raise my hand. All I could think of was to motivate. Luckily, I was able to realize that would be strange, so I waited to see what other people did first. I guess that's why the program slowly integrates you back into regular life, something that I never went through. Oh yeah theres something else...I remember I made this new friend after I went back to school, and I explained to him how I had learned in straight that whenever you make fun of someone, it is a sign that you have low-self esteem. So from then on whenever we had anything critical to say about anyone, we would look at each other and just say, "low self esteem." And if it was particularly critical, we would say, "really low self esteem. "  [ This Message was edited by: jane on 2005-01-07 10:54 ]

Damn it Timmy...you do know whats up with the Midland crowd.  Most of my buddies moved to Austin, a few died....Did you know Matt Wallace, Jade Arnold, or Chris Davidson?
I use to go to Slashes apartment and party...he always seemed a little crazy to me...see you guys were a few years older...do you remember when all that satanic stuff was being over blown in the Midland media?  Everyone was saying Slash was at the bottom of it all....I never knew because I was hanging with the Odessa crowd then.
Sneil and Smeg were cool...Sneil managed to talk his way out being arrested one night when I wasn't so lucky...then I never saw him again.  I had heard Sneil married Lisa Reyes...and I know T-Bird married Melissa Mallams...which I'm told is why he didn't like me anymore...or actually acted like he didn't remember me....who knows whats true.....Did you know Jim Hanley and Andrew McCollugh?  They were a few years younger...my age...stoners...I hung with them a few times, Chris Garza, Debbie, Diana Germany (before she shot herself), Shontel Gunter, and some of that crowd on occasion, but Corkey was the first guy to really show me the ropes on how to get by...I saw him in Irving after he got out once, but then everyone said he went right back in with a guy named Tim from Irving....I'd really like to see him again...

My Dad remembered you right away...started telling me some storey about you and some other guy who was trouble....he said he really liked you...my Dad is pretty cool...he really went through some shit with me...not sure how he survived....It's really good talking to you Tim.

Yea, I know Matt, Jade, and chris D.  Havn't seen Matt in years.  Last I heard he was in Louisiana.
Jade Arnold hid out at my house around this time last year after he split from an Austin work release program.  He got caught in a traffic stop and is looking at ten years.  Chris D is in Midland.  I can e-mail ya his number if you want it.

That satanic hype was bullshit, a hoax and started by accident.  Do you remember Brett Sowell?  We broke into Wild River Canyon (water park) after it had shut down.  I spray painted a pentagram on the side of a building there.  I was thinking of Motley Crue not satan.  Then I made my way into a dark building and lite a torch to see.  I fumbled my torch and accidently burnt that building down.  The next day there were big news stories about A "satanic cult having rituals" at Wild River Canyon.  I stayed pretty quit about it because of the $20,000 reward (19 yrs ago) for the "satanic arrsonists"  but I told Slash and he took it to town.  He declared himself the head devil and really started fucking w/them.  He would set up alters and leave goat skulls, candles and other satanic decor.  The media kept eating it up.

I've seen Jim Hanley around over the years.  But don't know Andrew McCollugh.  Chris Garza is one of my good friends.  We lived together a few times and went on a few road trips, one being Albuquerque last time I saw Sneal.
I have doubts about Diana Germany killing herself.  I think Rodney Dogget killed her.

I've heard your name a bit from people telling war stories of those days, and I never have heard anyone express dislike toward ya.

Your dad was probley talking about Shane Roe as the other guy in trouble.  He was in that class with me.  We were the 2 big hellions of Alamo.
Shane and I were best friends from 5th grade till his death at age 21.  I wrote and recorded a song about it for him called "Urban War"  It was up on pure volume but the geek squad does what they shouldn't, and doesn't do what they should.  Video editors are the same way.

I had heard Matt died a few years back...we were close buddies before I went to Straight....after straight I went back and forth between Dallas and Midland....mostly hanging with my Dallas crowd...Dallas was like dreamland for me....Deep Ellum, lots of drugs...but I went back to Midland as much as I could.  Chris Garza lived up here with me for a while, but we kinda went different directions.  I had heard about Jade being locked up, but didn't know what for.  I wish I had stayed beter in touch with all those guys but I became so involved in my drug life in Dallas - nothing else mattered....Then there was sobreity and kids.....both tough.....Before you know it 10 years has gone by.

I remember when that satanic stuff was going on and we (Matt and I) ended up on the news...though we didn't have anything to do with anything other than skating the canyon as much as we could....We were questioned about "A guy named Slash"   We had just partied at his apartment (I think it was over by the Red Lobster off the loop)...but we acted dumb....I remember the canyon burning too..didn't know you had first hand knowlege of it....

Midland and it's people were so unique...very genuine...Dallas was violent and crazy....no wonder I was worse after Stragiht than before...

I think everyone was worse off after straight, probley due to coming of age.  Turning 18 got my ball rolling and turning 21 line drived it to outter space.  When I first graduated straight I lived with different straight graduates for a few months and worked on trainee.  I graduated jan 1989 and moved back to Midland May 1989.  I kept visiting Dallas about twice a month.  I planned to go for weekends but stayed gone for weeks.  Some times it was to hang out with new straight grads.  One time it was Robbie Pettigrew and we went to Oklahoma and another time was Tyler Owen and we went to Houston.  Both times the staff discouraged them from going anywhere with me.  They said I was a bad influence :skull: .  See, I only thought she was being nice.  She was really plotting my death and kicking the plan into action.

Anyway D, it's good hearing from ya and remembering the old days.  I don't mind sharing stories from the days gone.  I think it's safe to shed the truth on anything before straight.

You still talk to Todd Townley and James Hardy?  They were both old comers of mine at different times....I stayed at James Hardy's host home...If you still talk to them tell them I said hello...not sure if they will recall me, but I remember them well.  Did you ever talk to Todd Tucker after Straight?  I always thought he was pretty cool, but then again, I always thought people were probably 180 percent different in Straight then they probably were out...Todd Townley bought this truck off a host dad and use to drive to the building...one time he got called out because some girl thought he was showing off for them by peeling out....which was probably true....but Todd was so funny about it.....I remember Laura Cross real well.....I had no idea you were so close with all of them.  Tyler was an oldcomer then he got set back tp 1st phase when I was in...we were at Chris McNeil's host home together for a while...I always liked Tyler....After I was out and getting loaded up again I use to see him at the Irving Mall working at Taco Bell.  I use to avoid him because I was high and didn't want to give him anything that would be used against him in group.....Yea, it's great talking with you....like I said I didn't really keep in touch with any of the old Midland crowd or Straight bunch....you like two in one.....thats cool.

I escaped by going to the dentist and not putting an upper phaser on to go with me. I didn't know I was supposed to (I was on third phase), and I guess neither did whoever approved it. Or maybe someone was doing me a favor!! Anyways once I got there my dad left me alone in the waiting room to get his teeth cleaned...and so after some contemplation, I decided to take my new toothbrush and move on to better things.

Anybody else want to tell their escape story?

Stuart Died in a freak car wreck...
  Tyler Owen : Dead
Vance Hudson : Dead by his own hand
Believe me my list is alot longer than that..
I wear a necklace made of 17 skulls for all of the dead friends I have ... Funny the more people die the less restrictive the choker is on my neck. (Have more skulls in a box I wrench on when more die...thankfully I havent had to add a skull in a while)

Am I to blame?
If I won't speak her name, if I won't face her grave
Maybe I'm to blame, maybe I'm to blame
Since you're gone, I've never felt the same
Well maybe I'm just a bad seed
Of the family
I'll get my sleep without tear-stained sheets
And I'll never come cryin' for sympathy
Well I need a place to run to
Yeah I need a place to hide
Yeah I need a place where I don't need a smile as my disguise
Am I to blame?
If I won't face your grave
Am I to blame? Am I to blame?
If I cannot bear to face your grave
And mother please shine down on me
Show me that I'm not the bad seed
Maybe I'm to blame, maybe I'm to blame
Since you're gone I never felt the same
Well maybe my mind's deceiving me
But I think you took the easy way out
You left me standing there empty handed
As soon as you put the gun in your mouth
So please don't keep on asking
If there's something wrong
'Cause you know damn well if I was fine
I would've never ever written this song
Am I to blame?
If I won't face your grave

The reason I post songs is this : Music has inspired me and been my best friend all of my life.. I know the lyrics in my head to 1000's of songs ...its a useless talent I have ...
Anyway I attach personal meaning to songs I hear and they inspire deep feelings in me..
and the pics? Thats no random rock star Thats Phillip Anselmo...and the reason his pic is on my sig is because his lyrics are the only ones Ive ever heard that speak of the things a junky goes through..I havent really found another artist whos lyrics speak to me in a way that ....hmm I cant explain this good..
When you have lived in the streets with a needle habit ...there isnt alot of people that can relate to you ...that understand that life...
The person in that photo has lived it and sings about it and therefore I dig what he has to say.

That help you out any? Pic is staying as am I and the lyrics I post...
I never claimed to write any of the lyrics I just print them when I feel they are relevant...either youll read it and get it or you wont....either way I dont give a fuck ...shit just is what it is.
Either dig it or go get fucking killed

I thought about it the night before and knew it was gonna happen, that I was going to do it, when I was riding in that day from someplace on the outskirts of DC. I entered the building knowing that later that day I would leave on my way to work. I had to go thru with it because I had dwelled for too long on those thoughts and there was only one choice and that was to act on them. (I had committed thoughtcrime, so I had nothing to lose) I left for work that day at around 2PM and walked toward the restaurant where I washed dishes. When I saw the railroad tracks, I walked over to the bridge and looked down for a second...and then went to one side of the structure and slid down the embankment to the rocks below...

OMG!!!

Froderick, I never thought of it that way.  Very well said.  That's probably why I walked.  Sitting outside the building every day off that I had, I would just gaze out at this overgrown field.  I coveted being able to walk freely in the field and dwelled on it often.  One day, I finally found myself in the middle of the field, and realized I had to keep going, no going back.

Hey Brad:

This is the first that I heard Tyler died.  Do you know what happened, how & when?  I'm surprised we hadn't covered that topic before.

He was a good friend to me & Patrick, I've thought about him often through the years and wondered where he was, etc.

Please let me know!

then what happened?

Down the embankment I went to the tracks. No turning back now. That was it. I was GONE. I followed the tracks in the direction that I thought Baltimore might be. I don't know how far I went before deciding to venture away from the tracks. Probably at least a mile. I went into a gas station and walked up to a few people and asked   them for rides. Finally got one from a black guy who was headed in that general direction. He got me as far as   Arlington. I remember walking for a while there before getting to the bridge that went into DC. It was getting dark   by then. I had nowhere to go, so just hung around watching all the people 'cruise the strip' in Georgetown  there...Soon I started walking. I walked and walked with really no idea how I was going to get to Balto. I ended  up in a bad neighborhood. Some guy about my age and this little punk that was with him approached me. The  guy was smiling at me. It didn't seem right. It wasn't. He caught me w/ a right to my jaw. Being scared, I reached  in my pocket for the check which I intended to hand over...They ran off. I heard the punk  say something about a  knife. They had thought that I was trying to pull a knife on them. There was an older,  more respectable looking  guy on the street. I told him what had just happened, that I had split from a rehab and needed somewhere to  stay. Just to get off the street. He said that he was having his girl over so he couldn't put  me up, and that I ought to consider going back to my family if I had any. I saw a homeless shelter and went in. They didn't want to take  me because of what hour it was. I managed to talk them into letting me spend the night. Not a good experience,  I hate to say. The snoring was unbelievable, and before going to bed I had to go thru the shower routine which  was creepy. I didn't sleep that night but at least I was off the street...

So I got up & ate the paste-like oatmeal & drank the coffee and started walking around DC. It was overcast and   colder that day. I ended up on a college campus somewhere and looked around for anyone who I thought I could   approach and ask if they knew anyone headed to Baltimore...but let me stop here. If I had had more sense, I   would have just bummed enough money for a bus ticket and gotten on one. It would have been $15 tops.   Hindsight is 20/20. Anyway, I remember going into the Hirschorn museum and killing like 2-3 hours in there   walking around and sleeping on a bench. I stayed until it closed. I remember doing naively approaching people on the street and asking them if they knew of somewhere that I could stay. It seems that a certain apathy had come over me, a certain hopelessness. I had copped-out, but I was 18 and could have just withdrawn myself. But I had tried that. I had already tried that. My sister talked me into staying. So now I had decided to cop out. It   shouldn't have been all that hard for me to stay out if I had really wanted to. But getting to Baltimore wasn't as easy as I had planned. But I'm getting ahead of myself. What bothers me is that I wasn't more determined  somehow. All I wanted to do was to get to Baltimore and let the chips fall where they may and hook up with my old friends. I walked around some more. I walked to where I thought the Wilson center was. (an old all-ages club)It was closed or shut down. Any money I got my hands on, I spent on food. I ended up pairing up with this homeless guy on the street and he told me that he was  headed back to a good shelter. I walked with him. When we got near the place, I was hesitant about going in. The bums were threatening him saying that they  were going to roll him for his money. I remember him telling me that he had been trying to save up so he could  get off the street. I decided to bail. I had had enough of homeless shelters anyway. It was raining and I was cold. I resolved to give up on the whole thing and call my mom. I told her where I was - (at the greyhound station in  DC) She showed up a while later and cried when she saw me. We rode back to Baltimore. What we talked about is gone from memory.Somehow I didn't really mind the thought of going back in. I knew I would be started over. But it's like I had gotten so used  to being there and the people there that I didn't really know what else to do. And I was 'guiltified' enough by then that I would have felt bad for going against my word and leaving my mom's house on my own, even after they lied to me to get me in there. So I went back in & 7-stepped in about 6 weeks. So then my mom was happy with me for  a couple months until she kicked me out of the house  for something, I'm thinking it was probably that I had started hanging around with 'druggie friends'. So I stopped going to the 7th step meetings after a couple of months & went on with life and never looked back..

Still shocked at the Tyler and Vance being dead....

Vance was the reason I deceided to work...he told me the best thing to do was get on 3rd phase, try and get my car to drive newcomers to the buidling, and get out of there....wasn't he in there for 3 years or so....I can't imagine 3 years of that place...though I know a lot were there for that and longer....

Tyler was cool too....I was at the McNeil host home and and he had just been sat back to phase 1....

As a matter a fact I do get SI....a gift from my daughter...sorta....she goes to Midland Christian (her mother hates Midland public schools) and they make the kids sell stuff all year long to raise money for the school....anyway, my teams out of the playoffs so I'm looking for the mock draft issue now...What about you.

My daughter goes to Greenwood.  Her mom hates Midland schools also, so she moved to Greenwood before kindergarden.  They must have seen our Midland school records

I got my daughter Nickalodian and Disney Princeses. The ESPN was a freeby with the deal.
My team has always been the Dallas Cowboys.
I'm kinda liking the Broncos after the Jake Plumer Salute.  I do a little sports betting and try to know what I'm betting on.  I had Texas for the Rose bowl, they won but didn't cover the 11 1/2 point spread.

http://www.pornjunkyusa.com (http://www.pornjunkyusa.com) is the web site.  Feel free to e-mail me instead of the dicks running that site. (click profile)
So what are you filling in with?????????   guitar? Drums?  I also work for Top Dog Productions.  They sent me to fill in for The Byron Shaw Project because their guitarist took off with James Brown (who I thought was dead)
Other than that it's just running sound for local bands, up and coming nationals like Acon (rapper)
and has beens like Ratt, Metal Church, and Warrent.  Well, I played sick and skipped Warrent.  Noone could pay me enough to mix that bucket of shit.

No, No, and No.  He did not die in the accident.  he was in a coma for some time, however.  I visited him there.

I spent some time with him much later after he had recovered and then we lost touch.  About a year ago I saw him out at a club and he mentioned he had been in jail.  Dont remember for how long.  He e-mailed me once or twice, but we lost touch again.  I am fairly certain he has a hotmail address, so anyone looking to get in touch with him can search the hotmail directory and probably find his addy.

Around 10 months ago, I cant be totaly certain, but I am almost positive he delivered a pizza to my house. He isnt dead, and I am pretty sure he knows about this site.  I told him about it anyhow.

TYLER IS NOT DEAD.  END OF STORY.

History does not record anywhere or at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unkonwn without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it.

Craig was on Senior Staff for the first part of my time there.  He was alright.  Kinda quiet, so even when he yelled, it wasnt really like getting yelled at.

He was semi-attractive too.  So that helps...on the girl's side anyhow.

He was always cracking jokes, and Carmel, I agree, he was very goodlooking.

I remember him talking one day about a story of him and his best druggie friend walking down the street, and that while they were walking down the street his friend crapped his pants, shook his leg a little bit and this turd came rolling out of the bottom of his pants onto the road.

Weird what stays in your mind after 16 years.....

Heath and I were engaged for a time but we did not get married.  There was never any domestic violence.  I haven't heard from him in at least 10 years but wish him well.

Carmel, I'm not sure what I did to deserve a reputation as one of "Satan's minions."  I do know that I had no desire to make your experience any more painful.  I apologize if I did.  Let me know if you're interested in resolving it.

Sorry for the reference to the violence thing, it was only something I heard long ago.

I cant say I am personally overjoyed to see you on this site.  You did do a lot of things that made it very hard for me.  However, resolution is the only way to go for me these days you know?  It is good that you found this place and hopefully it will give you some answers.

I would like to chat, really,....my e-mail is [email protected] and my Yahoo screen name is "greasepipe" ....drop me a note and I will do the same.

Welcome!

Carmel,
I sent an email to your hotmail account.  Let me know if you don't receive it.

I do have LOTS of questions.  Is it really possible that this is still happening to people?  Seriously?  Is there any organized effort to advocate against it?  Is there anything I can do to help?  I came across some sort of graduation revocation form.  Does anybody know anything about those?
Title: anyone remember from dallas
Post by: Antigen on February 18, 2005, 03:24:00 AM
Yeah, it's still happening. It's made possible by hysterical evangelical drug warriors like the ones featured in this recent news article:

http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?to ... forum=7&10 (http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?topic=8291&forum=7&10)

How different is that from getting started over for brandishing talcum powder? Can you imagine what this little girl must be going through?

There are some organized and some disorganised efforts to promote education and understanding of the problem. We're nowhere near anything like a simple solution. People have got to recognize the problem and how it effects them before they're going to be willing to actually lift a finger to help.

I put the revocation form out there. Like it?

If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there are men on base.
