When I was in Str8 during my so called misbehaving period I tried a weak ass attempt at doing the cutting thing. I look at my arms today and I see a couple of scars that is remaints of those days, however I know of a few other people who were serious about it and cut thenselves deep. The emotional and mental scars are far worse than the physical scars for me however they must have been tramatic for the others I have mentioned. Lets discuss.

Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? ... If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?

I just came across a copy of the rules from Straight and they are unbelievable. Here's some of my favorites.

#2. What you see here, what you hear here, what  you do here--remains here.
      ( We know what this was all about. )


#6. No borrowing money, candy, or cigarettes.
      ( Hell there was no smoking. )

#22. No telling your parents your host parent's names or phone number.
      ( Fear of information leaking out ?? )

#35. No 98 ROCK or Saturday Night Live.
      ( Enjoyment is not allowed. )

#37. No Leaning or slouching.
       ( No telling how many brusies on my back from having some asshole poke me with his finger to make me sit up and motivate. )

#40. Hang on tight to newcomers by the beltloop.
    ( The key word is beltloop not back of the pants creating MEGA-WEDGIE.)

#51. No "R" rated movies.
     ( Must be like Mr Rogers. )

I remember being set back off 4th phase on a refresher for not remembering ver batum the 4th step. After being set back for a couple of months and my true anger came through. A recent misbehaver that was "changing" was set behind me to make me sit up straight ( poking his finger in my back ). Well needless to say I got pissed. I spun around grabbed his throat and well the next thing I know we are both restrained on the floor. After that he was back to mis-behaving. It was nice to lend that helping hand. :nworthy:

I was in the Atlanta Straight ( actually in Marietta GA ) 1983-1984.

I was court ordered which made it difficult for me, either prison or Straight.

I advanced through the phases at first very rapidly as I was complient, but was set back just as quickly for not being able to recite the 4th step ver batum and I was on 4th phase.

During my setback I was judged and held back as poor reports were entered in the 5th phase books about me. I was angry so I misbehaved along with about 6 other people, and senior staff had enough of us. We were taken into the bathroom of the building which was once a grocery store and our director Mr Buttimer had some of the upper phase boys physically abuse us but saying it to the effect of "go over the steps with them" ( but they knew what he meant ). I was forced to clean the toilets and the tile with a toothbrush. It was humiliating. I was then taken out of the host home that I was in and put in one I did not want to be in. I trusted no one at this point, all I wanted was to go home.            

I eventually caved in and was beaten physically, mentally and spiritually. I made it back up to 5th phase and came home on a 5th phase weekend. At this point I was willing to take consequences, face the court ( Which staff loved to hold over my head ) as I knew I would only have to serve a couple months versus an indefinate amount of time and needless to say money. I came back from the weekend, sent in my chain of command and withdrew myself as I was 18 and they couldn't stop me.

Since Straight I have lost trust in family and really don't trust too many others.
