The Troubled Teen Industry / Struggling Teens Forum Closed Down
« on: May 22, 2007, 06:20:14 PM »
Niles- I wasn't trying to opine one way or another on the support aspect of ST.  The fact is, the ONLY real function was for parents to give each other cyber-hugs and reassure each other.  It DID work for that purpose- whether or not it should have.  However, if anyone tried to be critical or offer some thoughts on a particular aspect of the industry, there was either a cut and run or the feline arching of one's back.  The useful information had to come in the form of PMs.  When a parent really got into a tough spot or wanted to challenge the program where they had put their kid, they were usually afraid to share this publicly.

Psy-did someone actually think I was TheWho?  I would have NEVER had the patience!  That's hilarious.

Time will tell if ST is ruined as a support forum for parents. I felt that there was a very small number of posters, many of whom have switched forums.  There will always be new people arriving, I suppose, if it opens back up.  I never got the feeling that Lon got much business as a result of the discussion forum anyway, so maybe he will leave it closed.

Wow- you attribute a lot of power to me.  "ruined two forums".  I had no idea I had such an effect over here.  And I thought the general consensus here was that ST needed to be ruined?  Can't have it both ways.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Psy BANNED AGAIN from st

Maybe you might want to consider that there is another agenda going on and somebody might be testing whether or not the "regulars" on ST can get away with more than Psy can!

Facility Question and Answers / Carlbrook thread Part 2

Good assessment of Grant.  "Asshole" seems to be the universal descriptor.   He does believe in his product and doesn't want anyone to interfere.  He is willing to modify it- especially if he sees undercurrents.

This Carlbrook grad is good friends with my son and is recounting his experience the way he sees it.  He sure knows more than I do!

Thanks for your post.  You are one of the very few actual Carlbrook students who have found this forum.  I would love to hear about your experience, whether you think the program was beneficial, and whether you felt it was abusive in any way.
Did you go directly to college from Carlbrook?

Wilderness + TBS = 1 year  (May to May).   Yes, he was only at the TBS for 9 months inclusive of a 2nd wilderness stint in the middle of it. He did not finish the TBS program.

TSW is right-  no point in discussions on this forum.  Bye.

I have a log-in on this forum and any apologies I wish to make have already been made.

My son was sent to a program once, not twice. He spent a year in program. He has been out for 3 years.  Get over it.  He has.  He would like to go back and work in his wilderness program.  He thinks very highly of it.  Not so of the TBS.

Things must be getting boring if you are resorting to going after me again!  Tired of TheWho already?

Karen

Oz- Toeing the party line is not what most parents hope for when a teen is sent to a program.  They WANT the kid to learn about themselves and get at what is motivating the destructive behaviors.
I have a kid who got kicked out of pre-school. He never did toe the party line. That didn't always work so well for him, but he needed to figure out when he could compromise and when he couldn't.  He didn't toe it at his program and he didn't always toe it afterwards.
What parents want for their kids is for them to 1. stay alive 2. love and respect THEMSELVES and 3. achieve the happiness and goals they set for themselves.

AP-"CHICAGO - New government figures show a surprising increase in youth suicides after a decade of decline, and some mental health experts think a drop in use of antidepressant drugs may be to blame.

Suicides climbed 18 percent from 2003 to 2004 for Americans under age 20, from 1,737 to 1,985 deaths. Most suicides occurred in older teens, according to the data

Deborah- What were some of the boarding schools they referred to, if you recall.  Thanks.

Is your daughter a varsity athlete? How demanding is her school? Doesn't leave much time for a job during school.  Actually, he's been earning quite a bit of money this year.  As always, he has his ways.  I repeat- he hated Carlbrook.  "Just Dandy" wasn't one of the phrases he used, come to think of it.
