Sounds like a great trip . I haven't been to Ireland since 87 so I am over due.

Went to the Basque region in Spain and southwestern France recently.

SyN youd of been interested in that . Mys sisters boyfriend family owns a vineyard. We toured that and stayed in beautiful, San Sebastien. The spanish are big beer drinkers but there was a white carbonated wine that they drank alot of.

My sister gave me all the finer points of the wines we were encountering. She travels to London regularly to complete some type of wine certification. It was all wasted on me . Give me a Guinness!

I was at Elan in 79- 80

I was born in Ireland so ...

Anyhow the highway is just about done. The availability of contractors is the issue  (I am assuming you are talking about  RT 26 )

This forum is much better. I think you should just delete the other one.

Thanks for keeping us up to date. I find your postings interesting.

I brushed the chimney and am working the wood pile. I love the whole wood thing. It's ironic cause i sell boilers for  a living.

I try not to light a fire till at least 15 October. I'm in Maine.

Elan history / Robert, are you out there?

I made it.

An improvement hmm..

Well lots less of the insane postings but less postings in general.

I'd like an ongoing discussion of Elan, open to the public. Without the censorship of Elan Alum but with out the insanity of Elan/Fornits.

How's it going with you Llahsram?

Art are you still here?

As far as the site new site goes I admire the goal. BUT...

I like the public to have access to our documentation of our history at Elan....

Lets see a degreed individual with Elan experience offering to help you process. Don't pass this oppertunity up it might be the difference between life and death.

CCT I am happy for you. A bad chapter is behind you both. However I am realsitic cause I was once in the post Elan phase myself.

Even if you do nothing the outcome may be all right. Just depends on how much of a survivor your son is and how strong his will is to abuse substances.

Regards

Robert

My take on that scenarion is that after 20 years Clair has insight into what parents want. She wasbanking that you really wanted that summer session. She bet everything on it and won. She is good at getting what she wants from parents.

Your comments that "no one seemsto be in charge" are heartening. It is another indication that Elan is in a big decline. Lets see down to two houses no clear leadership sounds like its floundering to me.

Gotta love it

Hey SyN I thought you were taking a  break from Fornits? Now your a moderator?

Save this forum? Why its not worth saving and impossible to do so. Saving it almost seems out of context.

It was a good thought . I admit wading throiugh the trash here is a bit tedious.

Trolls and annonomyous posdting are part of the mission statement for the Elan Forum on Fornits home page.

Your a smart guy. Put this thing in perspective

Yeah i think pot is just as insidious as alcohol if abused.

Funny I do believe a joint now and again is ok.Just like a drink now and again is ok.
I know a few folks that smoke chronically and i believe that to be just as hard on the mind and body as hard drinking.

Well hopefull he has a HS Diploma so that is positev outcome.

What is the re entry plan?[ This Message was edited by: Robert on 2004-08-06 19:10 ]

There is a very finite limit to the extent that you can help your son at this point.

I don't work 12 step programs myself but I know many that do and this might be an avenue for him to persue. Historically Elan preached moderation for substance abuser . This definitely doesn't work.

You might avail yourself of AL Anon. They will teach you to avoid the pitfalls of a person with a history of substance abuse. Elan has not dealt with this. Do they have substance abuse counselors?

At this point your son is 18. His life is up to him . He will make mistakes. You basically have to let him land on his own feet.

I went thru Elan quite a while ago but i see the same faces there so i don't think its that much different.

That isolation stuff is very cult like.
