http://drphil.com/shows/show/706/ (http://drphil.com/shows/show/706/)

Dr. Phil questions the method Hilary and Robert used to coax Shannon into attending a behavioral school. "You were going to go on vacation. You said, 'We can't leave her with a nanny,' so you told her you were taking her on vacation. You took her instead to a school that was for really problem, hard-case kids and drugs. You dropped her at the school where they had a rule that you can't talk to her personally or see her for a year."

"We wrote to her every week," Robert makes clear.

"No, there were times when you didn't even write to me," Shannon shoots back.

Dr. Phil wants to get the facts straight. "You didn't talk to her for a year. You didn't touch her, you didn't hug her," he points out.

"Yes, it was the hardest thing I ever did. It was harder than watching my wife, their mother, die in front me," Robert divulges. "I felt like I was driving her to her execution, but I knew it had to be done."

Dr. Phil shakes his head. "I have to tell you, if I take my child somewhere for whatever reason, and somebody tells me, 'You don't see her until she does A, B, and C,' and that turns out to be a year, that's not OK," he admonishes.

Maybe you can order one from the network?

The most interesting thing to me it is seems maybe ole doc Phil is starting to "get it".

Maybe all those letters to Oprah have actually been read and considered.

Maybe the tide is turning?

This is the same doc Phil who sent kids off to Provo - I wonder if he still would?

Has anyone written to ask him?

BTW - all this is based on the little bit posted here - I didn't see the show myself.

Has anyone written Dr. Phil to thank him?

It would be nice to switch popular culture into thinking that this crap is what it is! Bad!

A good potent dose of main stream media could create that epedemic.

Write him!

Wow -- I actually agree with Dr. Phil.

I thought he was one of those 'boot camp' talk show hosts ala sally jesse. Good to know that this topic is getting a widespread audience. To think Dr.Phil is smarter than program parents!?       Who'd a thunk it?

Pray: To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled in behalf of a single petitioner confessedly unworthy.

What a crock.

He sent a 15 year old girl with some real problems to PCS, HIMSELF and I seriously doubt they allowed her to see her own parents.

So what, its only ok when HE does it?

I also love how he totally dodged the issue of the psychological abuse, lack of therapy, lack of any evidence it works, and the constant abuse accuastions for the past few decades.

 Yeah, even a broken clock is right twice a day, guess its about time Dr. Phil got something right - but this is just sooo trite.

The most painful aspect of the show for me was watching those brainwashed parents blindly defend the program, and it's rules.

How long has the girl been out? How old was she?

Did the girl say she was treated really bad?

And the parents still support the program? How many years later?

I am very curious, because I am in a very similar situation with my dad. It's very frustrating.

When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans ...... And so a lot of people say there's too much personal freedom. When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it. That's what we did in the announcement I made last weekend on the public housing projects, about how we're going to have weapon sweeps and more things like that to try to make people safer in their communities.

He sends kids to PCS? Okay, I take back my previous statement about DrPhil being smart! I was sent to PCS but when they told my dad I'd have to spend seven days in isolation at the start he said that sounded weird so we left. Next stop, spring creek lodge. I ended up spending almost a month in iso there though. Kinda ironic. I have never seen the DrPhil show before, but I'd love to see a video of this show if anyone puts it online.  :em:

What is ominous is the ease with which some people go from saying that
they don't like something to saying that the government should forbid it. When you go down that road, don't expect freedom to survive very long.

Dr Phil will sway to the ratings. His advise is geared towards receiving positive audience reaction. He presents what passes for a cynical form of common sense in the minds of the do-nothings that watch daytime TV. He calls this therapy. I call it crap.

Still, anything he does to change the mainstream view of how people should treat each other away from the tough-love bullshit is alright with me.

Its no shock or surprise to anyone here that McGraws out to make a buck dude. Its as you say - he gives people what they want to see. The problem is that what they want to see is demeaning, double-bind-riddled, 'toughlove'-ish IKNOWBETTER type 'therapy' and him 'taking charge' while finding a scapegoat to verbally flog and making some woman cry so her mascara runs, preferrably a very white and blonde woman who will give all of her trust to said Dr. Philip McGraw.

I haven't read all the responses.  All I had to do was read the first few.

No doubt Dr. Phil would say what he did on national t.v.  Doesn't he have a controlling interest in a youth rehab in Texas?  What's the name?

I know WWASPS schools don't tell parents they can't see or talk with their children. I know it is recommended they rebuild their communication in stages which co-incides with the level priviledges.   Things have changed - parents can go and see their child or talk to them anytime they so choose.  It just isn't recommended for obvious reasons.

Dr. Phil has copied the WWASPS model in both his seminar approach and the way he presents himself to families.  From what I can see, he has taken the WWASPS whole and healthy family model and used it to his benefit in books and t.v. shows.

What he said on his show is not a surprise given the fact that he stands to make a lot more money and look more credible by making the Program he copies look bad in order to send more clients the way of his Program in Texas.

Anyone else see this??

What a nice load of double speak. Isolation is not therapeutic, at all, period, whatsoever. Telling the family they cant keep in touch with a child because of whatever supposed hierarchy of 'priviladges' they just pulled out of their ass the child has or has not earned is bullshit. Complete bullshit. "Therapy" Is not taking away every right and priviladge a child has and making them jump through hoops to earn them back while disclosing every secret they have, going through LGATs and being punished with mindless worksheets, isolation, stress positions, pain compliance holds and living in fear disconnected from their family and friends.

Also, that 'isolation' tends to impinge on the rights of the family to see the child, not just the childs right to see out. Oh, and its not proper (or even legal in the states WWASPS does not operate in) to prevent them from talking to a lawyer or legal representation. Even Prisoners have those rights.

Uh, no. He hasnt copied the "wwasps model", because there isnt one. Do you mean Resource Realizations? Thats just Gilcrease's rehash of Lifespring/EST bullshit which in itself is just another LGAT very similar to the crap Erhard made 5 decades ago. Then again, LGATs are just cultish diatribes against the people within using peer pressure and humiliation to cause disclosure, and going on long enough it causes a total emotional breakdown. While thats not hard to emulate or copy, its kind of impossible to do that with books or TV shows.

Dolphin's a she... gave me shit about how with my (now) ex GF I had experimented with S&M And discovered its very, very much like how a seminar fucks with your mind, except you dont get off on it or even have any fun, just all the mindfuckery.

Then she called me the "WORST KIND OF MAN" for indulging someone in consentual stuff, one on one, with a safe word and a desire to please, vs brainwashing in a group with no informed consent, no safe word, and no way out other than RUNNING out, and only if youre a parent.

 one wonders what "dolphin" she makes use of that she hides in her nightstand.

They tranfer kids to Tranquility Bay where kids will be beyond the protection of US laws. So therefor the WWASPS support and encourage master torturer Ken Kay and his henchmen who have peppered sprayed kids daily for months at a time, scrubbed private parts with a steel brush and pepper spray, dislocated shoulders, as well as other tortures unaccepted in the civilized world.  By transfering kids to TB they implicitly endorse these methods. This is the mentality, morality, and legacy of WWASP programs. Their programs are littered with broken and very hurt kids. But these kids who understand how they were betryayed, are luckier than the ones like Dolphin who have been brainwashed into believing that the ends justifies the means, and accountability is for everyone except the owner operators, who use plausible deniability and hundreds of thousands of dollars to politicians to maintain their unscrupulous empire, built on the pain of children.[ This Message was edited by: Badpuppy on 2006-04-26 18:43 ][ This Message was edited by: Badpuppy on 2006-04-26 18:45 ]

So, does this mean folks like Mandela and Gandhi were negative thinking people?  What say you, Fin?

You know what negative freedom is, right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_freedom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_freedom)

In a nutshell, freedom from coercion. Freedom from people controlling you and coersing you and hurting you and doing bad things to you.
