The Melting Pot / HOOOOOOOOO BABY...
« on: October 14, 2010, 08:23:53 AM »
One of my Chinese coworkers, sweet little thing who goes by the Engrish moniker of Lily, gave me some "special" tea. My hands haven't stopped shaking and I feel like I could shag three women at once while doing backflips.

GOD DAMN...

Wow...

Just gotta find 3 women who wouldn't mind doing the wild thing at the same time with me.

The Melting Pot / The No Soft Drink Challenge
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:38:41 PM »
Let's see who can go the longest without drinking any sort of soft-drink. That means diet, one calorie only, or the other toxic waste crap that can melt a penny.

Right now I'm on a major Green tea kick, so this could go awhile.

Froddy won't make it past lunchtime though, he's a wimp like that.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Nutraloaf - program punishment diets.
« on: September 13, 2010, 03:00:48 AM »
http://http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/September-2010/Dining-Critic-Tries-Nutraloaf-the-Prison-Food-for-Misbehaving-Inmates/

My favorite comment is the suggestion that the government do away with food stamps and use these things as a replacement for them. Someone showed me this article and it got me to thinking about program punishment diets. Technically most states make that sort of thing illegal, but as those of us who have been there know, there are ways around it.

I've often wondered what other programs used for their punishment diets. I remember at 3 springs it tended to be a bland fare of white bread sandwiches of some sort.

How about you?

The Melting Pot / Cybernations..
« on: September 13, 2010, 02:25:23 AM »
www.cybernations.net

Free, fun, and with time it is easy to play. I've been playing off and on since 2007. My first nation was put under an Eternal Zero Infrastructure order by my own alliance. This essentially means they were hunting me on espionage charges. I dodged them right and left for most of 2007 to 2008 where they let me off the hook on the promise that I would just vanish.

So I did, and I started a new nation.

Got wiped out in a major war..

Started another one.. Got wiped out by an admin ban, which was overturned later on.

I'm on my 4th or 5th nation, love the game. The alliance politics makes it interesting as hell. As a veteran of the 3rd Great War, NoCB, NoVision vs. Onevision, Sajassbie, the First Earth Brigade Pillaging, and a few other little things here and there I can say that if you get into the right alliance it never gets boring.

If there are enough people interested in playing here on fornits, I'll do my bit to convince my alliance to allow us to form a protectorate. They'll protect us from larger nations while we grow, raid, troll, plunder, and in general raise all kinds of hell.

Good damn fun.

:)

The Melting Pot / Advice Thread..
« on: September 10, 2010, 07:55:58 PM »
This is a thread for asking for advice on any topic you want.

My problem:

I'm coming towards the end of my management contract here in China. They want me to extend my contract another six months, which is a good thing.

The pros of this situation:

1) I get to stay employed for six more months.
2) I get to build a rather chaotic resume for six more months.
3) I get to see if my super dooper marketing strategies I've pushed them into using work.
4) I wouldn't have to face the American recession just yet.
5) I could easily start taking some classes via distance learning through a community college back in the states. I'm thinking of picking up some psychology courses towards a counseling oriented degree of sorts.
6) I can save up even more filthy lucre for my eventual return to the US.

Cons:

1) I'm not home.
2) I'll be in a city in China where all my coworkers are new to me. Nearly 100 percent turn over in foreign staff next semester.
3) My Gf will be departing as well.
4) I like the job, but it doesn't really ring my bell that much. Just not what I want to do with my life.
5) The work isn't in the field I want it to be in.

It is a bit of a tricky situation. I'm not making that much here in China. This means when I move back I'm going to be moving back on a very tight budget. If I don't find work quickly I could be screwed over pretty badly. Finding work is something I certainly worry about in an economy that is running a near 10 percent unemployment. I don't mind taking crap jobs to re-establish myself either, just not sure how easy it'll be for me to find a crap job at this point in time.

The Troubled Teen Industry / You know what?
« on: September 10, 2010, 05:50:02 AM »
I was at first pretty pissed off with the new moderation changes. I still am to some extent. My rationale being that myself and a few others are being subjected to something to control a few ding a lings.

However, the more I think about the more I take into consideration that the current state of affairs can't be blamed on a few people. We've all played a role in the today's state of affairs of these forums. Since none of us are without sin so to speak, myself included, I'm going to be more patient and supportive of Psy who has given a great deal of time and effort to these forums over the years.

So yeah, no worries about me instigating a troll inspired uprising.

I'll be a  good little boy for the time being.

To promote a greater sense of harmony on these forums several individuals were just thrown on my foe list. No need to call them out as I bet they can guess who they already are.

The Melting Pot / Favorite Doo Hickey or Thingie Majigger
« on: September 06, 2010, 12:23:01 AM »

I dunno why, but I've always loved these things. I carry one around with me rather than just bringing a USB cable for my camera when I travel. Probably there is a part of me that doesn't like taking my camera everywhere and when I'm in a hostel or a hotel that might be a bit dodgy I can bring this card reader with me and use it to upload pictures to my various photo accounts.

I've never understood why people want swiss army knives that have 139 different blades. I've used a knife like this for years. My grandpa, the old fart, gave me one of these when I was a kid and I carried it with me almost every single day I worked in both Alabama and Florida. I had to leave it with customs as I forgot I even had it in my pocket, but by then it was so trashed the blade wouldn't even hold an edge.

I found another one though recently and promptly lost it a week later, which leads into another theory of mine, people like me shouldn't bother with pocket knives in the first place given how quickly I tend to lose things like that.

I utterly adore these things as I have a fondness for drinking green tea. Green Tea is good for you in a variety of ways so I tend to drink several glasses a day. Unlike the average chinaman, I tend to not enjoy straining the tea with my teeth.

These things have a metal strainer built into it. I keep one of these things at home and one at work. I tend to lay off the tea in the summer though due to dehydration and caffeine which can be a real problem for guys like me (not exactly a wee tiny person and all).

I bought a pair sorta kinda maybe like this to use in my classes. I play a few variations of musical chairs and these speakers let me use music, which is far better than having me actually try to sing.

If you do any traveling in hot climates, get one of these, they'll save you an annoying computer crash.

These are some of my favorite doo hickeys. I tend to avoid buying overly expensive items anymore. These days I have a few set items I find myself having a hard time doing without.

What are your favorite doo hickeys and thing a majiggers?

Web forum hosting / Facility Q/A forum
« on: August 29, 2010, 11:32:18 PM »
Can I please have moderation of the entire FQA forum back? I'd be happy to share it with Ursus. Keep in mind the forum was designed by me back in the day and I'd like moderation for some upcoming topics that are probably going to draw out the local forum trolls like flies on shit. I don't want them derailed.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Congratulations ding a lings..
« on: August 28, 2010, 10:48:07 PM »
For spending how much time being trolled by Spammy, Whooter, and Machiavelli? Really classy way to back up the kids in the programs who need your help. Seriously, find something relevant to do with your time and take a shot at program rape.

(And yes, I'm well aware posting this is ironic considering how much time I've frittered away trolling, but yall can make the choice not to, and ps.. fuck you danny.)

The Troubled Teen Industry / Update..
« on: August 27, 2010, 10:58:03 PM »
The deaf kid I mentioned earlier was sent home yesterday. Ironically the program decided that they couldn't serve the needs of a deaf youth. As of now the Uncle is taking up his sister's offer to take the kid in by helping her relocate to a bigger apartment and with getting the kid some assistance in terms of speech therapy and other medical supports.

I was fairly impressed with the kid's counselor at the program. Apparently her own sister is deaf and that gave her some understanding into the kid's struggles. Hopefully that counselor gets out of this bullshit business as soon as she can. I'm getting a hold of her email to open a dialogue with her. Possibly I can help her salvage what is left of her soul before she sells it to the gods of tough love.
