Title: The Canadian Vector
Post by: ajax13 on April 11, 2012, 05:49:15 PM
Alberta has shameful history of involvement with the particular stream of thought-reform programs that originated with the Seed.  Albertans were sent down to Straight, and at one time Straight had a sales office in Edmonton, Alberta.  The Alberta Government paid Miller Newton to apply his particular brand of coercive behaviour modification to Albertans at Kids, and the Government also put up $600 000 to bring Kids to Alberta in the program that is now called AARC.
Recently AARC held a conference that included uber-creep Ken Winters of the University of Minnesota as a speaker.  This conference was sponsored by the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative.

The AFWI in turn is in a partnership with an entity called TRI, which boasts Winters as a Director:

Winters is also Chairman of the Science Advisory Board at  PFDFA:

A more wretched, desperate gang of inbred, dissembling prevaricators is unlikely to be found this side of Nancy Reagan's Ouija board, but it gets creepier.  Another partner of AFWI is something called the Frameworks Institute:

"FrameWorks designs, commissions, manages and publishes communications research to prepare nonprofit organizations to expand their constituency base, to build public will, and to further public understanding of specific social issues."

Glad to have Miller Newton's spawn involved in the process of building the public will.

I remember spotting the TRI ASI Chart on the Fifth Estate episode concerning AARC.

I don't.  While the SASSI has been used by AARC's unlicensed, unqualified staff to diagnose the addiction brain disease in Newcomers, the behavior menu used by AARC was the one used by Miller Newton.

I am a little more concerned about Frameworks and their involvement with coercing the population of Alberta into accepting AARC's disease model.

Of course.  I'm just saying I recognise the diagnosis chart that is being used, especially when somebody asks for what test is being used to measure the addiction.  Frameworks is the big fish, but I'm not so certain I can distinguish that from the episode.  You might be able to.

I will also note that Frameworks seems to be heavy in the "Calgary School".  This election is big.  If the Wildrose is shaken off, hopefully a more leftward (cannot call it left-wing) Tories and the dipping into Edmonton's pool will imperil the influence that Frameworks has.

The original post had nothing to do with the Fifth Estate episode, and there is no mention of AARC's role in the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative.  What is of concern to me is the fact that AARC is a an instrument, as is Frameworks, being used to shape people's perception of a particular phenomenon, specifically "addiction".  There is mad loot to be made once a couple of million Canadians are diagnosed with the "disease".
As for WR, the political instrument deemed to be most effective for the financial elites who control the economy will get in.  Libs are Neo-liberal, PC's are neo-liberal and WR are neo-liberal.  They have  you coming or going.  The most powerful NDP government in the history of the country was headed by Bob Rae, a full-blown global corporatist.
