News Items / "Saving Grace" Play about KIDS on now
« on: December 12, 2003, 08:35:00 PM »
Just to let everyone know that "Saving Grace:Based on a True Story" is up and running at the Pumphouse Theatres from now until Dec. 20th. Call 263-0079 for show info. This is based on my niece's experience in KIDS of North Jersey between 1989-1996. We've already had former KIDS come to see the play and got some very good feedback from them. If you do come, and you would like to chat with me afterwards, I'm at almost every show (I'm the co-playwright and director) as is my General Manager, Michelle. There are also feedback forms in the lobby. Our website is http://www.foxglovetheatre.org.

For those of you who would like to see a play based on KIDS and a Calgary teen's experiences in that programme for 7 1/2 years, and if you may be in Alberta, come see the show I've co-written and am directing called "Saving Grace:Based on a True Story".
It runs Dec. 9-20th at the Joyce Doolittle Theatre at the Pumphouse Theatres in Calgary, Alberta. You can call 403-263-0079 for information. If you want more details, I will be happy to provide them to you.
Obviously, I am also aware that some of you, based on previous postings, do not support the idea of trying to get the message out about the dangers involved in this type of treatment through the use of theatre. However, I am extending this invitation because I do believe it is a worthwhile cause and I would like to have other survivors give me feedback on the script.

4. The flesh can be sawed, crushed, frozen, stretched, burned, bombed, and plucked for music.
5. The dumb are abused by the smart and the smart destroyed by their own cunning.
6. The small are tortured by the large and the large destroyed by their own momentum.

I apologize. I posted this incorrectly under Teen Treatment Industry the first time, so...now it's in the proper place.
For anyone who's interested, I am writing a play about the programme and my niece's experiences there. I was troubled and moved by her story, and I thought it needed telling in an accessible way for the ordinary person. She's been generous with her insights and history and the brutality it all, but as I would be interested to hear other points of view as well to incorporate into the writing, I invite anyone to share even the oddest detail, nuance or impression that you can recall about anything at all - food, discussions, the "language" of the programme (which I'm trying to master), Newton himself, the rules, etc. I'm doing some reading here, and it's a great resource, thank you. I've written to the webmaster, but got no reply, so I'm trying to reach out this way. The play is called "Saving Grace: Based on a True Story" and it will be performed in Calgary, Alberta in December at the Pumphouse Theatre. Hope to hear from you.
