Children! I'm very disappointed in you! I thought you could mind your manners for just a day while mommy takes care of some important errands. Now go to your rooms without any supper, all of you!

Well, for the moment, only registered users ever see capcha. Silly, huh? We're waiting for a new mod for smf. Mean time, all I can do is lock down anon posting. How do you guys think it would work out if I just create a guest login with a public password. That way people can still post as guest, though you won't get the handy name and email address fields so you'll have to id yourself however you please in the body of the post. This would be a stop-gap measure in place only till we have a real solution.

GOD! but do I hate spammers!

Who cares Zen?

I'm higher than shit right now.

Oh come off it... On the entire week we were down at Benchmark I saw you have a grand total of like 3 beers and afaik you don't smoke pot either.  Stop scaring the parents.  You forget how clinically naive many of them are.  Some are liable to take you seriously.

Keep in mind just how...  different some parents are in their thinking.  I had a parent complain to me today (yes, this was a real parent) about the "I just" thread on the straight forum...  "Why are you letting these druggies talk about doing drugs!  kids can find this forum!"

Yes.  I'm sure the'll read RTP's posts about shooting up with oxy and say "gee, ma... I wanna do that tomorrow!"  IMO, being open and honest about what all drugs do is the best deterrent you can get.  Lie to kids, on the other hand, exaggerate to "protect them" and they're going to call everything you say on the subject bullshit and throw the baby out with the bath-water.

Who said I'm high off weed? Remember... I'm not in the USA at the moment.

Be careful...

The story is for real. I have been discussing it with a German. Apparently the boy have somehow volunteered and he had some knowledge about the region in advance.

The German think that they have found the golden egg, because it only cost about 1/3 of the cost in German.

What you dont know about Europe is that we in Denmark and properly also in Germany have a lot of problems with "tourists" from Russia and eastern Europe, who comes here without money and finance their hollidays with stealing and robbing from the citizens.

LOL... I do know this...  very well.  I grew up in Romania, where a good portion of them come from anyway.  As a result, though, I can spot them a mile away.  Never, ever, been pickpocketed... and the "imports" are very, very good, btw.

For god's sakes can we have some background options? The new colors are making me sick to my stomach after looking at them for to long. Also re-order the forums so the more active ones are on top and the less active on bottom.

hang on and i'll add some more themes.  you can change em in your profile options

fornits gets better by the day!

Wait a minute... The title of this thread used to be "the new forum is worse" — and OP had a rather unflattering statement to start things off...

Can Guests edit their own posts now?   :o
Apparantly, yes
hrm.. let me fix that

Well... editing activity now shows up even when you were the last post, and you just went it 'cause you forgot to add something...

Yeah... and it shows up for moderators too.  so Whooter can't be doing his "somebody modified my post... I didn't write that" shtick...  There is a 90 second grace period, afaik, but that can be changed.

When my 'puter is acting crunchy, 90 seconds might be the time it takes for me to get back in that post. Hate to think of how the poor souls on dial-up are feeling about those 90 seconds... 'Tis certainly not highest priority in the world, but it might be nice to have that grace period extended a wee bit.

I changed it to 300 seconds.  You can still edit a post, but there will be a stamp on it.

:ftard: (ftard) is working now that I added it manually.  Since they didn't seem to transfer over automatically, I suppose it's a matter of adding them all back in ... oh well...

HOkay...  SOMEbody's got to put in the first post on the new software, it may as well be me...  ;)

So maybe this thread should also be about glitches and flummoxes and problems, too... as we all get settled in...

One thing I really like is that quoted posts are made significantly smaller.  Makes for cleaner reading.

On the other hand, there is a poorer emoticon mix, and avatars seem a little "smudgy" (at least mine is, lol).

the smilies do suck.. badly.  So let me see if the old ones can be brought over somehow. As for the avatars, i'll see if something can be done.

Appreciate the feeback, btw.  If nobody pointed out half these things, It would take a lot longer for them to get noticed and fixed.

The signatures for a lot of people seem to be a little worse for the move...  That might be easiest for people to change themselves, barring extreme cases.

One thing I might point out is that the BBC code for font size is apparently a little different in SMF than it is in phpBB.  This seems to have been accommodated appropriately in the thread texts during the upgrade (based on an admittedly cursory look), but not in people's signatures.

Whereas previously you could just enter a font size number as in "size=12", now you have to specify "size=12pt" (with brackets subbed for the quotation marks).

Also, I have seen the first character clipped off of most of (perhaps all of) user's signatures.  Poor Odie, who saw fit to just sign his username as his sig... His sig now reads as a less-than-friendly final word to his readers: die.    ;D

Yes.  Many of the signatures are hosed... Why, exactly? I have no clue.  But as you mentioned, it's not really possible for me to edit them all (well... maybe it is, but I don't have 20000 years to do it), so it's probably easiest for people to fix it themselves.

What shall I do with the links from Fornits Wiki. As far as I can see, the format of the url is different. Will various links from +200 page have to be redone?

Nope... The PhpBB version of this forum is staying where it is for archival purposes.  It's locked for editing, but it's probably a good idea to keep it around (for reasons such as yours, google, and for the thousands of links to Fornits posts on this forum that would have to be somehow changed...  In short: point your browsers to www.fornits.com/smf from now on.
