Title: Mike Leach of Texas Tech Fired for Locking Player in Shed

I was listening to sports talk radio about this earlier today.  A comment about callers saying that because the player in question was a pain in the ass  he deserved his "punishment".  It piqued my interest.

Granted, the context here is different.  As a football player, he had the opportunity to quit the team anytime he wanted, and so far this is appears to be one incident and not a pattern of abuse.  Still, it reminds me that there's an unsettling authoritarian streak in this culture that can strike anyone for any reason, as long as that person is deemed "deserving" of such punishment.

College football players are required to go through tough training.  If a player refuses to complete daily training (excluding when a player is injured), he should be kicked off the team.  There is no room for this attitude on the field.  If a players is a pain in the ass (like the player in question),  disruptive, refuses to comply with university/football team policies he should be kicked off the team.

agreed, he should have been kicked off the team if his intransigence warranted it, not locked in a shed

It's not just our culture.  It's the whole of human nature throughout history.  That will not change.  Only solution is to limit power.

I would have locked the baby in the shed also.  The football player was a disruptive little turd that needed to be taught a lesson.  Good for the football coach.

Wtf? The kid had a concussion. He shouldn't have even been at practice at all. Let's see how long he's out of work.
