His mom is flunking 'drug-shoveling'
my brother and I both have 'issues', but neither of us has ever been diagnosed
plus who's to say my 'issues' aren't from my training as a Seedling all those years ago
or from my stroke

Bad enough that so many kids and even adults are getting diagnosed with ADD, but it seems like the last few years there's been a huge jump in the number of kids diagnosed with AssBurger's Syndrome. If they just take the burgers outta their asses they will be fine.

There ~~~~~~~~~>feels much better now.

I told my 15 year old about straight tonight :(  I din't get into the details just the mention of the removal of my civil liberties and the reasons I advocate so hard for him.

If there are any praying men or women out here tonight, I would certainly covet your prayers.

Godsake are you my twin or something?

Got a meeting with the special needs school my son attend tomorrow to try to explain to them whyt an ADHD kid cannot sit through a 2 hour detention

I would never give my son Atteral or Ritolin, he has been prescribed concerta and sleeping tablets, he has never and never will take sleeping tablets all the time I have a say in it and I have taken him off the concerta, it made him so lethargic he had no quality of life no mater how small the dose, plus when i read up on the dangers....

Anyway i have found changing his diet ha been pretty effective, more efeective than stupid concerta anyway

Okay, please just consider this.  I don't know how old your children are, but I am guessing that you both had your children vaccinated sometime after 1990 otherwise, you would not be speaking in terms of IEP's and school meetings, and teachers, etc.

Most folks are not aware of the levels of mercury used in the childhood (MMR, DPT, etc.) vacines.  If my memory serves me correctly, it's used as a preservative in the vaccine.

I had my son (age 26 now) vaccinated starting in 1982 and he was pretty much finished with all of the "requireds" by 1984/1985. I think we were able to sneek by on the last round of shots until he got busted at college this term.

Anyway, the point is, in the mid to late 1980's (85-87) was when "they" started using mercury as a preservative. Now I'm writing just from memory so  please do your own research on this.

Check out the most common symptoms of mercury poisoning.  You may be surprized.  Heck if you are willing to forego the drug treatment the physicians are recommending for your kids and seek alternatives, look into what might be the root cause fist.

Chelation therapy might help - and that can be done either by blood cleaning or with supplements or both.  Much depends, I think, on the toxicity level of the metal(s) involved.  Senator Kennedy (not Teddy) has done some great work on this issue.  check out the research and good luck.  I hope this is somewhat helpful.

I'm not well read on this subject but here's my gut reaction to ADD.

Environmental Cause of ADD
1. Let's assume that, in the last 25 years, the # of kids with this condition is legitametely growing by leaps and bounds -I believe it's symptomatic of our robotic, pathetic, hyper-consumptive culture/lifestyle.

Why?
1st consider the landscape

a. Parents aren't around. They're too busy working. We're all workerbees slaves to corporate america. We sit in our cubicles and rot away. We trade our souls by working our asses off so that the CEO's can have a disgusting amount of wealth.

b. The pace at which Western Societies moves is mindnumbing. The 5,000 mph pace at which we live isn't healthy. We are cognizant animals. Animals don't belong entombed in cement and plastic. We're organic matter. We're so far removed from biological time it seems absurd to even consider the the concept of 'biological time'.

Regardless of the legitimacy of the ADD condition/diagnosis. Let's consider the PP.

a. Pharmeceutical Push. Have you ever had the opportunity to eat lunch at a major pharmeceutical employee cafeteria? It's 5 star and either free or highly subsidized. I visited Merk's headquarters for a business meeting and hadnthe opportunity to eat at their cafeteria. Do you think there's any correlation between the insane profit margins in the pharmeceutical industry (as evident in stock prices and employee benefits) and the increased hyper-diagnosis of ADD (and any other condition for that matter)????  They are drug dealers in suits and ties. I also dated a girl who was a pharmeceutical sales rep. For 1 year I got to see 1st hand the amount of money these pharmeceutical companies 'throw' at doctors to get them to 'move' their product. It was carte blanch pimping. Truly disgusting.

In my opinion, everyone has it to some degree. I very strongly believe that over 90% of people diagnosed with ADD/ADHD do not have it and should certainly not be taking stimulants daily. It's a disgusting, over-medicated country we live in today. Kids and teens do not want to pay attention. They want to fuck around. It's their nature, not a problem.

Yes, ADHD is definitely an extreme version of things most people experience. It's over-diagnosed, and it's sad that people will use drugs as first resort, instead of teaching better organization. But it does exist; by definition, anything that hampers your life can be diagnosed, and severe ADHD does.

If you cannot focus when you want to focus, there's a problem. There's a difference between needing some time for unstructured play and actually being unable to focus when you want. People with ADHD generally have trouble focusing even on leisure activities--it's not just schoolwork or "boring" things; they'll forget they were supposed to go hang out with friends, lose track of what they were doing in their video games, lose their possessions so repeatedly that they've replaced their driver's licenses or keys a dozen times in the last two months... This is a problem. Kids do need to run; and in fact ADHD kids learn better when allowed to move while doing it. But ADHD is real; it's not just annoyed teachers trying to drug a rambunctious kid.

Best approach for ADHD? It's not drugs and it's not beating the kid into submission; it's education. You teach somebody to create external structure so it's easier to focus. Kids with ADHD should be taught things like using to-do lists, creating routines (like putting your keys on the same hook every time you come home), and finding out how they learn best and taking advantage of that. Maybe you use stimulants to help them focus while you teach them; maybe you don't. Maybe you just give them coffee. Maybe, in the worst cases, they stay on stimulants even after they learn; but in any case, the stimulants aren't there as a cure-all; they're there to make it easier to learn.

If a child is "drugged" or lethargic at all, the dose needs to be lowered or the medication needs to be stopped. People don't learn properly when they're half-asleep. I don't care how much trouble a fidgety child causes for a teacher; there is never an excuse to use drugs or restraints to make him stay in his chair.

I'm a college student now. I fidget while I learn--deliberately. I rock back and forth and play with things in my hands and tug on my hair and pop up and pace around. I wiggle my fingers and tap my feet and hum and whistle and stare at shiny things. It's how I learn best. And yes, I have ADHD. Oh, and either autism or Asperger's, depending on which doctor you ask. Honestly, there's really nothing horrible about either of those things, despite that many educational systems would be glad to put me on Risperdal (nasty stuff) and pin me down whenever I got too much to "handle".

What the heck is so wrong with being different--even being disabled? Nothing. Not to me. Apparently, to the people who like to label others defective, there's everything wrong with it and we've all got to be "fixed" like we're broken appliances.

I have a weird brain. I don't learn the usual way. That shouldn't be an excuse to try to drug me into a stupor. Any dose of Ritalin more than 5 mg turns me into an instant zombie. (More proof that ADHD is real: Most people don't turn into zombies on stimulants. They speed up.)

Mercury=either autism or ADHD? No. It sounds nice, but it's pseudoscience. You're born with a strong susceptibility to ADHD or autism, and you pass it on to your children in your genes. Environment can make it worse; but usually "environment" is things like being born premature or having a mother who was on drugs, not the mild mercury exposure the average kid gets. We do actually have kidneys to handle toxins like that, y'know.

It's just that recently they have turned mild ADHD into a disorder, re-named "minimal brain dysfunction" as severe ADHD, and differentiated autism from mental retardation (nice for the autistic people who are not mentally retarded--that's most of us--and can now get a decent education... theoretically). The number of kids needing special ed has increased only slightly, probably because we are better at keeping disabled kids alive--such as Down Syndrome kids whose lives are saved by surgical correction of heart defects. We're really just re-categorizing people. It still doesn't matter if you're retarded or autistic, though; it's still apparently a valid excuse to treat you like crap.

...wow, that was tl;dr. I rant a lot. Sorry. I guess if you read it all you probably don't have ADHD :)
