welcome to the forum
- nice post

your comment "Anyway,i`ve gained and suffered both from that experience..all the rest of my life both cursin` the devil, and thankin` the lord for for it.Sometimes the wisdom came in handy,..other times the knowledge of how people are such users just gets me down."  pretty much sums up my feelings about the seed.  it wasnt all good or all bad, but it was a crazy messed up trip through it.

this board is not too active anymore but a few stop by from time to time.  i was never in the FL seed - i was in cleveland on the program 76-77, around off and on until it closed.

you woulda been slightly older than me - i turned 15 in 1976.

your post definitely made me laugh - thanks for the comments.  you reminded me of a newcomer in cleveland who, at his first open meeting, got up and started to introduce himself, proceeded to say something to the effect of, "I never really hated my father, that is until he put me in here....."   well you can imagine he got yanked from the line up pretty quickly and out of the open meeting, and returned after about an hour to get up in front of the room and apologize.  we could only imagine what the reeming he got behind the scenes was like.

Sorry to hear about the Kienzles, I liked them both. One stayed at my apartment for a while and one was my brothers oldcomer. I miss the friends I made there in Florida and the guys I came down from Cleveland with, i never had anything more to do with them after they closed my apatment and left the State. Except Alex  P. we went to school on the same campus and stayed in touch for a couple of years. Funny I was thinking of a guy I went to Florida with any was polking around on the web when I saw that picture about Art retiring and there he was John Perlof, i guess I don't have to wonder what happened to him.

I knew Alex in Cleveland - do you know what happened to him/ where he ended up?  he was a good guy - i have wondered a few times over the years what happened to him.  I stayed at his house on weekends to the seed on many occasions in cleveland.

John was involved in the seed for many years, not sure if he was until it closed, but if not, he was still involved almost up to that point.

Bill - I am pretty sure I remember you - you were a graduate by the time i came in i think (spring 76) -i was on my front row with those two girls from st clairsville, i think their names were kim and tammy.  you probably knew my brother bobby (from alliance - magician) - i think he stayed with kenny in solon too when he was a newcomer.

Is Art Barker still alive?  Just curious.  I saw the photo of him that was dated 2002 and was wondering if he was still kicking.

yes Art is still alive - although in frail health

i finally decided to break my silence here when i saw the John Grimm post - I sure wish someone would respond to it and tell me what happened - he meant a lot to me at that time - was such a good guy - really sad to find out he is no longer with us.

ttt

does anyone know any details about this?  this might be old, news i dont know, but I really would like to know what happened, John was definitely a positive influence in my young life at that time, and although I havent seen him in over 20 years i still feel a certain emptiness knowing he is gone - truly one of the good guys in this world when i knew him.

Suzanna and Stephanie, they were the sisters with the father who was a doctor.  They were shaker kids like me so we used to car pool together.   I remember hearing that Stephanie had split a few times when she first came in.  It was always so hard for me to imagine her as someone who had bolted cause she seemed so limp by the time I knew her.

I remember Fred, was never close enough to see his tattoo but I do remember him.  One of the few non-white seedlings.  He was older right, back to work not back to school?

As I remember it, we all turned our entire bodies around to look at the person who was speaking, turning just ones head didn't show the proper enthusiasm.

Theres a girl who's name I am trying to remember.

She was on the front row when my parents brought me to an open meeting. She had platinum hair. At the open meeting she said she wanted to make staff so I was suprised when I was admitted to see that she was actually pretty resistant.  I think she was on her front row for a long while.  When I came in(late may 76) she was on the front row with me and had apparently been there awhile.  I remember  once she got told off during a rap about work when she said that she intented to be an artist(the right answer was, of course, some profession that would allow you to help others---"that is if I don't make staff."

She got started over after she went back to school for hanging out with old friends.

ring any bells

Not12Now - PLEASE make sure you always quantifiy which Jimmy you are talking about LOL - I have been mistaken for him by others in their foggy memories of the Seed and I would NEVER want to be mistaken for Jimmy M.  We were both kids (he was 13 I was 14) and both kinda chubby, - but he had a real attitude problem, refused to take showers/ baths like a little kid (and yes he stunk in the group sometimes), etc - yes he split and was started over. Hopefully his personal hygeine changed with age.

Fred was white, 22 yrs old, and seemed ancient to me at that time.  You may be thinking of Quinton R or a real quiet black guy named mike i think (lasr name started with a "W") Besides Kevin from shaker, those are the only black guys i remember at the seed.

And yes you remember the "B" sisters - their dad also used to do physicals for newcomers too.

I cant remember the platinum girl you're referring to.

Dave M - I am trying to place you, i dont remember the name.  I came in in March of 1976.  Jim B. (probably was still called Jimmy in those days).  I had a brother Bobby (magician) and sister Mary in the program too.

I remember Fred - he was from Lakewood, had a tatoo on his forearm that said "White Folks" in like gothic letters.

I am trying to remember people on the front row with me, there was this rolly polly 13 yr old kidJimmy M. from the west side (kinda a little punk), Steve someone (he had made his own tatoo of his grilfriends name, Sandy, on his hand - he split after a few months - got started over, split again, never heard from again), Tony K. (blonde lanky guy from Parma), girls - ther were these 2 girls from St Clairsville, Kim, and I cant remember the other one, but she would never turn her head in order to not muss up her hair (it was long - eventually they got her to give in to the standard short cropped lesbian haircut that was standard in the group), she would shift her entire body from the waist to turn and look at who was speaking.  Also, Suzanne B (she had an older sister stephanie who came in first, split, got dragged back in and reemed in front of the group and was started over) - I think their dad was a doctor at the cleveland clinic - they moved to TX.

The group was still small, as the Seed had only been in Cleveland for about 8-9 months at that point.

Karen - I think i have vague recollection of you & your sisters - were you from the east side?

Dr Rick - i was the anonymous poster - not intentionally, just didnt realize i wasnt logged in - i asked because there was a grad of the program who went thorugh it in florida but was from ohio i think - he was a school psychologist and we still saw him occasionally a few yrs after the seed closed - thought you might be him so wanted to give you a shout to see if you remembered me or not.

I knew John very well in Cleveland but did not know of his death - what happened, when, etc.?

this is truly sad news - i always felt extremely at ease around him - as someone said above he was a gentle giant - we all still hung out for a few years after the Seed left Cleveland - i lost contact with him & Beth(?) after they had their child - they were living in this real small house in Cleveland.
